  1. Umbro get the best of both world then. People buying that kit and possibly buying the offical away kit as well
  2. The point I was answering had nothing to do with playing. It was Mowbray wanted to use him as a mentor. I was asking why do that when we already had an experienced winger here. If Downing is better and can benefit the first team squad then I'm fine with the deal. If on the other hand he is having one last payday then it is a waste of resource we haven't much of.
  3. To be fair, most of the time that Downing has been at Boro, Chapman has been out on loan.........................................or on the treatment table
  4. If thats the case why not just keep Conway and not bring in Downing?
  5. I can forgave this if he now concentrates on defence but he won't. Just because people have supported Mowbray until now, not all are happy clappers. If next season we go on runs like last season's bad run, fans will turn. He has used his last chance card with many.
  6. Even if we loan several or even all of these youngsters out, another youngster will only be 5th choice at best. Still will be a drain on resources unless one of Mulgrew, Lenighan or Williams is to leave. Even then if someone else's youngster is better than any of ours then surely the one's deemed poorer need getting shut off. Didn't Platt/Wharton just sign a contract extension?
  7. How many younger options do we need not to play? We already have Magloire, Wheaton, Platt and Grayson waiting behind Mulgrew, Lenihan, Williams and A.N. Other so why another? We need more bodies in the full back positions or are we just going to play out of position players there?
  8. Didn't Villa have a poor start, sacked their manager and finish the season getting promoted? Why would PNE be a surprise really as they just missed out on the play offs for the last two seasons?
  9. Are you surprised? He has done this all the time whilst at Rovers! I'm just surprised more people haven't twigged
  10. I'll give Mowbray credit then, he is a visionary. Davenport arrived before Reed. Signing a replacement before the man who he is replacing is inspired. Seriously Reed arrived as a premier league loanee so I think another will arrive. I agree that Chapman is Conway's replacement in the squad although listening to Mowbray lax lyrical about Stuart Downing I'm suspecting we are both wrong.
  11. Sad to say your dad was wrong. Jansen didn't save us from a long time inthe second division, he only delayed it
  12. How difficult is it for Umbro to release a Blue n White shirt when their own team catalogue has one on the cover?
  13. Wage budget will determine success? We paid dollar to the likes of Murphy and that tosser we got from Newcastle, Best! Did that bring success? Ask Man. Utd who must be paying Sanchez peanuts then! Its the choosing of the correct players and coaching the best out of them that get success. There are plenty other examples of mercenaries for wages. You mention McGinn at Villa but when Bruce was manager they were below us.
  14. Who are we going to sign which will bring glory hunters back? When we signed Archibald it added a few but it was only when we were on the run did crowds built. To get bums on seats we would need big names who non-committed supporters have heard off and there is no way that is going to happen
  15. Personally agree but many I know will only go to see winning football. Glory hunters. Wish they stay away but know for the good of the club they are needed
  16. Go back to 80s, we would average around 8000 and if we were top at christmas then crowds would rise. If not crowds would stay constant or even drop off. Transfers may impact for a game or two but if we ain't winning that wont last
  17. As Gladwin isnt going anywhere yet surely they will have to share
  18. Maybe because they club handled Conway better than they way they forced Marshall and other players out to get a quick buck the players had no need to thank the club. Some fans had also turned and were offensive towards them so why should they thank them? It is a two way thing The other difference is that the players you mentioned had a potential future in the game so fans would welcome them back, Conway is at the end of his career.
  19. We've already signed his replacement in Harry Chapman........so offering Conway a fresh contract was pointless so Conway could have had his moment of glory in the last game. Conway on his day was one of the best wingers in the Championship but needed a target man. For the majority of his time we didnt have that so his effectiveness wained.
