Sam Szmodics-Your thoughts?
tomphil replied to BRFC4EVA's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Ran himself into the ground for the team tonight, probably get rested on Saturday. Dack needs to be coming on in games like tonight to replace him and get a foot on the ball and stop wave after wave of attack coming back. -

How long have some of you lot been attending Ewood ? We are on the countdown to playing Burnley for the first time in a few years so naturally there is something building. We are on tv and knocking them off top spot, watch them on tv and you'll hear constant anti rovers songs. You should also know if Rovers fans aren't singing about Burnley they aren't singing. Find something else to fucking moan about, tonight was a good night. -

Their strikers are out and they are saying they like TM using two wide forwards and a false night to cover for this. Think they better get used to it. Wouldn't be surprised if he puts one over us tonight though he gets a few good counter attacking systems churning out the odd good result away from from home. Just never liked doing it often enough here. -
I'd say the Welsh game has potential for more wide spread serious disorder than our derby these days. Some serious loons attached to both those clubs who also happen to be based in far bigger cities in the arse end of Wales.

Maybe a certain number of starts or appearances triggers the year option so that's why he is in effect being frozen out. They might not want rid of him right now they might even want to use him but if they want his wages off the books in summer they can't. I'm certain something like this is at play rather JDT just not rating him he isn't that daft. -

3 wrongs don't make a right. Pure profit vital to FFP to be had here even for one modest fee, it was a fuck up in the end to see all 3 in the same boat. No amount of trying to gloss it over and place blame on all three players with a one size fits all excuse will alter that. -

Those in charge realised that and that's why he was afforded the opportunity to try and get us up again. Alongside the biggest budget and best backing in the division by far as well as one of its strongest squads despite them relegating us. Had they brought him in maybe 3 or 4 games earlier we may or may not have avoided the drop but we'd certainly have given ourselves a better shot at it. People seem to take it as a given that he would have kept us up but that's hindsight there are no guarantees. However my point still stands his name was over the door and he didn't do quite enough to keep us up. I can certainly point to several games that were what we came to know were typically standard Mowbray and they could and should have been better considering what was at stake. Ultimately the owners running of the club was at the core of the blame but just like the manager then they have to get credit as well for their part in the promotion. -

Relegations are rare as well thankfully and he over saw one of them so he was putting that right and credit for that but can't have it both ways. -

Sunderland were in league 1 last season and recently have won one in four i think scoring only a couple of goals (classic TM). In classic TM fashion also they are probably due a barnstorming performance and away win so please lets just have a go at them non of this poncing around. It would be nice to whallop someone at home again and this would be a good statement in the countdown to Turd Moor. -

No need for any booing of Mowbray that would be classless but no need for a heroes reception either just concentrate on backing the team. Best way to make any statement is do that and get the win don't give him opportunity for any barbed digs. We were good for each other for a while he reset the club no doubt about that and Rovers pulled him off the scrap heap and gave him that opportunity and backing to reset himself. It went stale some time ago and was on the verge of going toxic although his transfer funds had all but dried up as well which didn't help. I'll always think there was a little bit more to all the behind the scenes stuff than we will ever get to know about but it's done now we've all moved on. Hopefully the game will reflect that and we'll send him and their hordes back up the road with nowt. -
I assume your hindsight has served you well in life ?

I think Hirst is getting thrown to the wolves a bit he clearly isn't physically up to it yet he looks like Brereton did 3 or 4 years ago. Presumably they put him in that position because he has a bit of pace and the idea was counter attacking unfortunately he came up against a good defender and he put him in his back pocket. He's probably capable of better but he shouldn't be starting ahead of Gallagher - who struggles at times in that role himself. The front line should be the best players for the job most capable of linking up and scoring or creating goals, that would suggest BBD, Dack and Hedges or Gallagher. Chucking Dolan up top on his own, having novices or players out of position on the wide berths, trying to be too clever rarely if ever works from the beginning of games. Save that stuff for changes later on if it pans out that way but sadly this 'developing players' scenario takes away from getting the best 11 out there game in game out. -

Not really Travis job to do that though he's the water carrier for the more footballing sidekick but they are disappearing in games when the rough stuff starts. -

JDT is a novice compared to Coyle though and hes shown enough already to escape that kind of comparison. He just needs to get to grips with the facts that what might work at home to the likes of Peterborough won't work away to the likes of Cardiff and Wigan. They knew the other night we'd be keeping the ball at the back so just jumped in pressed us high and went for every ball in the middle where we were light. Pretty basic stuff and the hard work and persistence of that paid off when they finally pounced on one of the numerous dithering ponderous attempts at this style went their way. -

Yes we have more capability in this squad pound for pound compared to then and the different leagues but it is being overlooked in favour of trying to drill into them a different football style. Allardyce always plays a certain way based on percentages first wherever he goes but what he found here was the nearest squad suited to it from his Bolton days. JDT seems to be intent on carrying on Mowbrays style with added football in our own box and just like TM there isn't half enough focus on using the talents we do have to suit the best of their ability. This over riding desire to try and develop players and create 'footballers' rather than go after wins and try and get out of this league. Just WTF are they all so afraid of at this club that if the play offs or promotion did happen it would be a by product of something else rather that a real target or goal. Almost as if it would get in the way if it happened now in the near future instead of at the end of some fantasy journey sometime in the future. -

It isn't bad and it's becoming very Sam Allardyce in terms of home v away results. It's less palatable when you look at the away performances though rather than the end results. You won't get results unless you have the right approach, desire and game management. -

We are always a project to managers because we are a project of some sort to the owners, a money losing accounting/advertising project. They are employing people and telling the their 'vision' for the club which is all based on a jam tomorrow scenario. If they employed someone with the remit of top 6/promotion as soon as possible and backed them accordingly we might actually see someone put the foot on the gas. There's a reason Mowbray got away with spinning his yarns for years unchallenged and it's the same now it all starts from the top. -

Was considering driving up for this one but having a rethink after that non event last night. Don't mind travelling a hundred miles and spending a small fortune but losing as long we turn up with the intention of having a go at some point. Doubt there'll be more than 5/600 there. Boro 2 Rovers 0 -

Funnily enough i was talking about just the same thing with someone last night. It's what i feared might happen after he had success in a lesser league with one of its biggest best backed clubs. I remember some of Bergs early games being very neat quick football but we ran out of steam very quickly once teams starting jumping on us first. He also wasn't afraid to throw raw players in but began suffering similar cock ups costing games although to be fair to him he had zero backing whilst he was here.
