  1. Too right and when the likes of Leeds brought a full allocation it went up several notches people didn't go into their shells and the kick offs weren't moved. Leeds and one or two others support was truly fearsome but so were the OB so they could handle it. What the hell will this lot do if we ever somehow got back to the Prem insist every big game kicks off at 12 ? Pathetic !
  2. There's no way they can justify sales of players because of low crowds after spending 7 million on a kid who's not ready to play regularly even they aren't that hard faced.....are they ?
  3. Spot on it's the lapsed ones who stuck with it despite Kean etc etc, the crowds when there was a bit of positivity briefly under GBs first full season were in the main a bit higher than now. Get those back for a start i'm pretty sure 12k ish season ticket holders is realistic for Rovers if they price and pitch it right and that needn't mean giving them away although an exciting signing would've helped this time around and they have to shoulder that one. That would give a base for 13/14 thousand home turnouts plus away fans which is more than respectable for us midtable at this level.
  4. John Williams once said that he'd come to realise people in this area value every pound in their pocket and where they spend it more than any other place in the Country ! So when people are quibbling about a pound or two here and there or extra money for rocking up an hour before kick off believe me it matters. A lot of it is a mental thing and principle thing as well rather than whether they actually afford to tip it up or not. Northeners are nothing if not principled and if they think it's out of order or the piss is being taken they'll say no thanks. Just the way it is, I don't think i'm wrong in saying our little corner of England is still quite old fashioned in some of it's values, more than anywhere else except maybe parts of Yorkshire.
  5. A bit like the Shagnew era , sign a few players win a few games and they'll come flooding back was the word to India etc That Oxford game threw them all a bit of a curved ball I think when in reality for the two seasons previous we'd been bobbling along on home turnouts of around 10k. To be fair though in saying do we have historically big crowds he's kind of acknowledging that and between the lines maybe saying the 11/12k now have to carry the can at these prices and just hope a few more start coming.
  6. They needn't have done because they didn't go down when we went down I don't think.
  7. I think Bolton had a 4k pwk or thereabouts wage cap imposed by their embargo, probably in effect when he signed. Spearing was on about 19 grand a week there allegedly so that's some downgrade in wages for them.
  8. To be honest he seems more of a corporate man and if he increases that 3 fold he's done a good job and I suppose justified himself being here. Let's not forget to include the financial directors input in all this, surely there is some and accommodating away fans to the angst of home fans is nothing new also the BBE upper rug was pulled from under the home fans before Waggot pitched up. Suits never understand fans they only understand numbers on a screen, a good example of that is currently running the country !
  9. He's looking for problems where there aren't any just to paint himself as more of a martyr to the cause probably. He's obviously entitled to his opinion but what kind of impression does that give to Mowbray and the players when it's so wide of the mark ? Poor stuff.
  10. Lee Martin was that his name or something ? Scored a goal in a big game then seemed to disappear despite being highly rated. Might have been earlier though that one..
  11. It's passing the buck he can still say to the owners i'm doing my bit i've increased income ( by increasing prices and focusing on away fans ) but the home fans just won't turn up. Arse covering might be another term for it. Yeah we are all a bit disappointed but i thought thered be a thousand more regulars than there is maybe not these mythical numbers he seems to be expecting.
  12. Me neither, I modelled myself on Hendry so I liked to get stuck in but i think there's a difference between all out commitment and blatant thuggery you'd be looking at the likes of Vinny Jones and a few others for that before Marker he never struck me as a blatant dirty player or even a hardman he was just robust and committed, probably a bit clumsy. Consider what Keane did to the City player the toerag should've been banned for life. Our very own Lucash Neil had his moments but again I wouldn't call him dirty he was just extremely robust.
  13. Well his contract was up so he wouldn't have been offered the same and TM made noises about wanting to keep him but the impression was he was off looking for the biggest wage he could get. Bolton wanted him there and then they'd been tracking him ages but he went to Brum.
  14. Like I said he was a master of the sly fouls, missed a tackle but still stopped the player. Keane was an out right arrogant dirty twohat who wouldn't have got away with half of it if he wasn't wearing a red rag and of course he could play a bit.
  15. In a crafty way I said meaning just what you've said there, he knew what he was doing. There should be room for the likes of him, no one wants to see blatant injuries but the game is so powder puff at top level now it's ridiculous. Hendry was firm but fair he'd be sent off every week now just for having the nerve to throw himself in front of the ball leaving someone's toe.
  16. Didn't they used to change columnists every few years ? He's had his time now he's boring and repetitive even though he might have some fair points to put across. Time to move him on let someone younger have a go at it if they want tp push the positivety line all the time.
  17. Hard as nails, cracking player and dirty little fooker in a crafty way.
  18. End of the day he captained the side to relegation with a load of insipid performances then bailed out first chance he got because he thought he was too good for league one Rovers. Not complaining about him bailing because at least we got rid but one or two might feel entitled to be a bit agrieved at that after he'd had a free run at Rovers and filled his pockets nicely. I don't think he constitutes a hate figure amongst Rovers fan base but it isn't unusual to hand out a bit of stick to a former player whose ended up at a local rival. If it put him off a bit it did the job.
  19. Ince, Robson even Scholes also Liverpool with Souness, McMahon, Molby, Ince all good teams based around midfield hardman who were mostly firm but fair but no strangers to the dirty stuff . Being in red they mostly got away with it though.
  20. He fits in well there to be fair they have a team of grafters just very little quality, if he was any good he'd stand out.
  21. I think he won one tackle to be fair but yes the only other thing he did was get the card rest of the game he was totally anonymous and not in a 'doing his job' kind of way.
  22. Marker was an agricultural type from the previous era all but disappeared now, very handy player to have in the squad then. Where have all the hardmen gone ? ?
  23. Saturday reaffirmed it he's not missed here in any way shape or form and those 20k pwk wages have certainly been put to better use at Ewood.
  24. That kind of proves my point.
  25. Nixon is the advertising mouthpiece for certain people so he's just making sure everyone is aware of Dack and that there might be clubs ready to jump in Jan, he's akin to an auctioneer all he's missing is his wooden hammer ! He'll have a nice drink out of it.
