There are players out there obviously otherwise half the championship would be after this lad, they aren't because A) He's unproven he's just supposed potential B ) Because of A he's a tad expensive but his club don't want to sell him unless the money is too good. That's why try before you buy is the best way here given what's at stake.
-
Must admit i'm uneasy about this one and who's behind it, loan for a season first or leave alone would be my take on it. Surely they have other irons in the fire a bit more proven ?
-
That's more like it.
-
7 million is always a figure that makes me uneasy - Kevin Davies & Cicco Grabbi ?
-
A clown in Blackpool ? He might finally find his spiritual home. As for them it would certainly be the final nail once he takes them down then under the Oystons there's no coming back this time. The next Tranmere.
-
Me, you, the gate post and everyone else knows that even if we'd won 10 nil that'll never happen under our Tony that's jus not his bag ?
-
Very true although we didn't go at Millwall on Sat early doors and they should've been two up by half time probably, it all depends on the oppo but at home against a lot in this div we should be on the front foot. Hopefully we will be this time around.
-
Back to thrashing lower level opposition I know but once again the team looks so much better getting out there on the front foot pressing with the shackles off. Why we have to approach most other games like we are terrified baffles me. Let's have a go again at weekend.
-
Surely we'll be taking a thousandish over there which is respectable enough and a pretty standard Saturday aft championship style following for Rovers.
-
It soon got back on topic as most do but that's not enough for the snowflakes who prefer to point score about which journo said what about who and which anonymous twitter account is ITK allegedly. Boring the rest of us and derailing the thread themselves in the process ?
-
The major wage drain on paper rarely seems to alter and seems to suit them that way. Off paper didn't TM say last years football budget was about 8.5 mill all in ? I know we are probably still paying a few off but i'll always feel there's a little bit more at play here, paper loses and tax on parent company profits maybe playing a small part.
-
Agree he was a disaster and after the first half of his first season once he'd settled in and applied his methods he just over complicated everything and lo and behold almost 20 years later he turned up doing it again with England. Very odd cookie is Roy, part good part clueless, another whose biggest enemy is himself. A football scientist one ex player called him in the early days, probably explains the over thinking.
-
He was I just think they should've built the foundations around him but really he just ended up being the one bright spot in otherwise dark days. If I remember right he was the only one looking genuinely gutted and leaving the pitch in tears the night we got relegated. Defence was a shambles but he should've been the rock to build it on.
-
Too right, we might have played half a season of great football and maybe he'd have got us out the mess in October that got him sacked but by the lord he certainly contributed a fair bit of damage that took a few years to sort and a lot of Jacks personal fortune. Some cheap foreign tosh and some astronomically overpriced English/Welsh/Scottish trash he brought in he clearly had no idea of the British market at the time. Maybe if he'd been allowed to spend big on foreign players like he was used to it would have worked out better. Two he got right in Henchoz and Perez we probably never got the best out of, also to be fair Williams was new to the job back then and didn't really know his arse from his elbow.
-
I think if you know the players offer something, know them as characters and they fancy coming it's probably a no brainer for any manager if you've a chance of getting them. Would be nice to get a couple of out of the blue rabbits out the hat though..........
-
Yes fair points although wages might be an issue but they sorted Armstrong so there's a possibility if he isn't greedy.
-
Doubt any Gallagher signing would amount to anything more than a loan as i'm not sure how you go from 7 million rated 20 grand per week player to what Rovers can afford in a short space of time.
-
Strong words from you there, care to elaborate ? Does he have an attitude or a billy big balls ego or something ? Agree the loan fee is a bit eye watering and would've been better put towards a perm signing.

Darwen End Closure / New Singing Section

Looking directly across from no5 where I used to be and then the JW upper BBE side I have to agree a few in there gave a bit of a presence in visual terms even if you couldn't often hear it. -

And it worked for a while but obviously the continuing Venky & co induced slump meant numbers kept dropping so it petered out a lot. Personally I prefer seeing 400 home fans in there next to a similar number of away fans I think it gave that end of the ground some life and at least offered a bit of support to the team down that end on corners etc but it's gone now. A lot moaned that it looked ridiculous with a few in there and they'd be better corralled together elsewhere to make the ground look fuller when in reality nobody with any real logic knew that would be the case. Now a lot of those same ones will say it looks awful with just a couple of hundred away fans dotted in a section surrounded by entire banks of blue seats. Can't win in a ground our size. -

I think Millwall are a good marker for that though proving you don't always need numbers to create a din, 8k of them scattered around their stadium can be fearsome. Again we just don't really have that kind of animated support and never have for bog standard games aside from a few small groups whose influence occasionally used to rub off on the rest. Again though that's pretty standard for most clubs of our ilk. If I were the club or a supporters group i'd forget about trying to create a singing section anywhere near the away fans just let those who want to banter them sit near them but concentrate all efforts on rediscovering the BBE's soul. Get it back to trying to drive the team on for 90+ mins whether we are struggling or not on or off the pitch. It doesn't all have to be singing songs either just general loud encouragement and applause particularly when someone like say Smallwood is struggling but you know he's better than that so get behind him. That used to be the way but football has somehow lost that type of backing. -

It wasn't but compared to the last 7 years it probably was might be a better way of putting it. It was often far too mute but it had a soul called the Blackburn End and could get revved up, Wigan game last season was as close as it's been to crackling for a league game since the Hughes era probably, early Souness era it always seemed to be buzzing. Burnley aside of course which is usually an altogether different type of atmosphere. -
I'm sure they are working hard behind the scenes to deliver one good loan deal but i'm not holding out much hope now it's been an odd window all round. If we get one in I think it might be Chapman they'll see that as a fan appeaser as well as him ticking other boxes.....apart from fitness.
-
True although they've had lots of calls for Nuttall according to TM and someone like Whittingham would surely attract a bit of interest lower down the scale ? Carrying him is pointless and his 8k pwk could certainly be put to better use I think.
-
They'd be better going into a local primary school with a blank piece of paper and a few coloured ( NAVY BLUE) pencils the under 10's would come up with better than that ?
