I would think that ideally wing-backs are defenders who have the ability to attack when the opportunity arises. Not forwards who don't know how to defend.

JDT is by no means the main problem, or even a significant problem, but he is part of the problem, by insisting on playing a system not suited to the position we are in.

The whistles idea might work as the ref would have no control and I wouldn't have thought that it is illegal.

I am not a professional manager, but my system would be 3 central defenders, 3central midfielders, 2 defensive wing-backs, and 2 forwards. This would probably mean dropping Szmodic, not because of any deficiency, but because he wouldn't fit the system.

No in a scrap you need someone in charge who is willing to play a system that is made for a scrap. Then you play the players with the best ability to play in that system. It might not be the most attractive way to play, but needs must.

I am not bothered about legends being sullied, I want someone who can set up a team for a scrap, because that is what we are in.
