At U23 level it doesn't really matter what league the team is in. It is all about individual progress, and finding which players are capable of playing for the first team. The U18 players would still be competing against U23 opposition.

I think Brereton is having a fantastic season. But I don't think the team has no chance of promotion without him. He has not scored in the last five league games, and we are still second.

I think the clearing of the decks out on loans, at U23 level is to allow the lads at U18 to progress. Perhaps the people running the acadamy think some of the U18s have a better chance of eventually making the first team. I would trust them to make the right decissions. They have done so far.
