v Norwich City (h) - 1/3/2025

I disagree. He was lucky to get away with the first one in my view and incredibly silly to give the referee a decision to make. The Ohashi one looked like it was inside the penalty area. -

I agree. I have only seen the first challenge in real time and my first thought was red card. It certainly ticked all the boxes for serious foul play. Then already on a yellow he was incredibly naive to give the referee a decision to make with his second challenge. If that had been a Norwich player I'm sure we would be saying it was a clear sending off. -

It certainly feels like a win given the circumstances but in truth I thought we were second best for long, long periods of the game. It was in the main a carry over from the Swansea match as too many players were way off the pace. Fortunately our back four were all decent and certainly kept us in it with some good defending. I really expected a high press given the way Norwich play and having read that it's what Ismael prefers but we didn't and let them play through midfield where they were dominant. In fact Norwich were high pressing and forcing us to go long at times. Ironically we had a good spell after the triple change and looked to be on the front foot as Norwich looked to be tiring. Dennis however gave them a huge lift with his stupid sending off and they certainly took advantage of this by scoring a well worked goal. I honestly couldn't see a way back but the players showed great character to get the equaliser and send us home happy. It certainly looked from where I sit that the challenge on Ohashi was in the penalty area of at the worst on the line. Perhaps this helped us as we galvanised after this and got the leveller with the players taking credit for showing great character. It was good to get Carter (our best player in my view) and Tronstad back and hopefully this week get them up to speed for the rest of the season. Hopefully Ismael has learned that we can't play Cantwell and Dolan in the same team. We can just about cope with one player who gives the ball away so often but having two is footballing suicide. -
As much as I'm angry about the fee we got for Adam I'm probably more irate at the reason for selling him. The Punekars reluctance to fund the club properly because of their business irregularities landing them in trouble with the Indian authorities. Palace took clear advantage of this and stole him. Distressed seller sums this episode up perfectly.

I wish him all the very best. If he is successful then we will all be happy so I am prepared to give him my full backing. The elephant though is still well and truly in the room.
-
The first thing you notice about him is his size, he is a real unit but quite athletic with it. As you would expect he is physical but also has a deft touch when needed. He took his goals well today. All in all he looks a really good prospect and hopefully next season can step up to the under 21's.

Another goalfest involving our youngsters this afternoon. Mistakes aplenty from both teams made it an interesting spectacle and Leeds can consider themselves a touch unfortunate to be on the end of such a heavy defeat. The difficult conditions didn't make it easy for the players which in turn led to lots of turnovers of possession and consequently chances at both ends. We played a lot of counter attacking play particularly in the second half as Leeds poured forwards. The day was spoilt by a silly sending off for Valentin Joseph. His first caution was daft. He deliberately stopped the Leeds goalkeeper from releasing the ball into play when we were 5-2 up. Then in stoppage time he slid in for a loose ball on the goal line and caught him. It was one he had to go for but the referee considered his challenge to be reckless and gave him a second yellow card. Hopefully he'll learn from this. After 13 goals in two Rovers games this week what are the chances of a 0-0 on Saturday. ๐

Apologies it was actually in the 88th minute but your point still applies. I rely on a memory which is aging ๐.

Another really entertaining match at Leyland last night as Rovers beat Forest 3-2. Carter was missing despite it being reported that he would start, hopefully just a minor set back. Ohashi started and took up some good positions and moved about comfortably. However he did have his right knee strapped up despite his absence being from an ankle injury. He was taken off at half-time which I guess was always the plan. Rovers were lucky to win as Forest created lots of chances and pretty much dominated the game. Michalski was really good in goal (despite giving the ball away for a Forest goal) as he made several exceptional saves. His confidence is clear but he gives us the jitters sometimes with the ball at his feet. I felt for Alex Baker who scored within seconds of coming on and looked really sharp. Sadly he overstretched for a cross and appeared to damage his hamstring. Hopefully it's not too serious As the lad has had so much bad luck with injuries. The three goals Rovers scored last night were of the highest quality. A great free kick from Strich and two exemplary finishes from Baker and Boggan.I There is no better feeling than scoring a winner deep into stoppage time particularly when you have been second best pretty much all night

Or that useless gobshites are carrying out the process (if there was one at all).

The under 21's are playing Nottingham Forest tonight at Leyland and the under 18's are playing Leeds tomorrow at Brockhall. It will be interesting to see who is picked to play tonight as quite a few of the under 18's have stepped up recently. Hopefully Hayden Carter and Yuki Ohashi get some game time tonight along with some of the bench warmers from recent games as we can play up to five over age players.

I have it recorded so will have a watch later. I'll take particular interest in the player you mention ๐ -
It only needs three or four not be at it to have a marked effect on the whole team. The lethargy amongst some players was clear yesterday and after the last two performances was really baffling.

It's almost like watching two separate sports now with how the modern game has evolved. There are some aspects I wish we could go back to such as allowing a higher degree of contact. I do wonder where the game will be in another couple of decades. -
Everything the players have been rightly praised for in the last two games was undone in the worst performance of the season today. Devoid of energy, low intensity, slow, insipid and lacking in fight were the main characteristics today for me. What really battles me is that last week was the first time for a while were we haven't had a midweek game so at the very least I expected some intensity in our game. We offered nothing. Too many players looked off the pace today and coupled with the basic errors we made the result was going to be a foregone conclusion. In fact I thought if Swansea kept at it they could have hammered us. There just wasn't anything positive about today and the inconsistency from game to game is really going to cost us I believe. I sincerely hope I'm wrong but my personal play off dreams have been shattered today after seeing the ineptitude and the almost polar opposite performances to the last two games. After the Eustace saga and two subsequent wins today really was a case of After the Lord Mayor's Show.

I think the Mohammed should come to the mountain. ๐ Personally I would give them a time slot for an interview somewhere local. If they don't want to or are making excuses then scrub them off the list.
-
Why on earth are we interviewing candidates in London? I assume the three stooges are staying down there in some salubrious hotel, eating fine food and drinking all at the club's expense when we haven't got a pot to pee in. If any of the candidates are that keen they could have travelled to Brockhall or somewhere local.
-
That would be a real worry for me. As a squad it is generally considered that we are punching above our weight. One of the deal strengths of Eustace was how he handled the players as evidenced by the number of them who publicly praised him. His man management was clearly a big factor which everyone seemed to buy into. A hard line approach with an air of arrogance I believe would be counter productive.

Rovers youngsters lost 2-1 today with the winning goal coming late on. We didn't play particularly well but probably did enough to send the game into a penalty shoot out. The pitch didn't help either team. It was like concrete and with a strong wind it made it really difficult putting the right weight on passes and reading the flight of the ball. After going behind to a sloppy goal we got back into the match through a good Hayden Carter header from a corner, probably the only decent set piece we played all afternoon. The winner from Bolton came about as Pratt switched off and thought the ball was going out of play but credit to the Bolton player who didn't give up on it and created the winner. Overall it was a disappointing display with too many players not getting anywhere near their full capabilities.

Leeds have been really predictable so far and play far too slowly. Sunderland are in the box seat at half time.
