2022/2023 Pre Season Thread

Gallagher coming inside to the middle from where he scored and missed two chances and pressing from a central position. Clearly Tomasson wants to see Carter at right back where he played a few games last season and did well. I saw more fluidity in the system yesterday the I have seen for some time. -

I know it's early days and we haven't played a competitive game get but watching them so far it is clear to me what system we are playing. There doesn't seem to be anything complicated about how Tomasson wants to play and we are seeing square pegs in square holes. Compare this to the over complicated nonsense we have had to put up with under Mowbray which had most of us scratching our heads. -
Transfer Window - COMPLETE. Where’s Gregg?

I really struggle to understand how you purport to be a coach with a ridiculous statement like that. AC Milan players and Champions League winners have to be pretty decent don't you think? -

Today was probably one of the most entertaining per season games I have seen. Over the piece we were second best but there were spells were we were on top and creating good chances. There were some positive signs to me that Tomasson is stamping his mark with a decent press and some good, fast one or two touch play. It's pretty apparent to most people were our weaknesses are and hopefully we are looking to plug them holes with some new, quality signings. The emergence of several youngsters is great but in reality we could only blood one of two and even then they need to be managed correctly. -

It's free admission to Celtic season ticket holders too so I expect there could be 40000 plus. -

Transfer Window - COMPLETE. Where’s Gregg?
arbitro replied to chaddyrovers's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
So instead of recruiting players our Director of Football is recruiting a Head of Recruitment. We are two weeks away from the start of the season and presumably have to go through an interview process which, if it's anything like the recent processes will take a few weeks. Sometimes I despair at what they are doing to our club. -
I wonder if Fielder did some kind of presentation about these in his interview and it helped him get the job.

If that's true we are selling him why risk him in a friendly yesterday? Particularly after Dack was allegedly going to West Brom and got injured against Wigan. I agree we need to sell him but if that is the plan then playing him yesterday was bordering on lunacy. -

It was a five when we were defending but going forward we played with wing backs. And in truth none of them were particularly convincing. -

Although they were friendlies yesterday I saw little evidence of what we were told how Tomasson likes to play. There were some suggestions that he liked a back four with a pressing game. I saw neither yesterday. Hopefully he has more than one way of playing and given the plethora of centre backs yesterday and lack of midfielders his hand could have been forced. -

This wage structure (I'd never heard of it until somebody here mentioned it) is seen by some as a blessing but I honestly see it as more of a curse. If we want to sign (it's more of a need to sign for me) experienced Championship players then surely we have to pay the going rate or quite simply they won't come here. Having seen the quality of our two League One signings last season I don't think we should be looking there and trying to blood a few kids at once will surely end in tears. I think it's a huge two weeks to strengthen ideally with four or five players able to hit the ground running. Our last friendly is at Lincoln on July 23rd and I can't see any new players who come after that being available for QPR having had no games. I am really in fear of starting the season with the squad we currently have. -

I like the fact he is already referring to us as Rovers 😄😄. Is this interview subtitled for the benefit of the hard of hearing? I hope so and that they haven't done it because of JDT's Danish accent. He is easier to understand than Mumbling Mowbray 😂😂 -

Absolutely agree. We went into Coleys Bar to use the toilet and it was heaving. There were plenty of big screen TV 's with sport and I heard somebody say getting served was no problem. We truly are well behind in this respect. Stanley's hospitality is renowned and pretty much sells out every home match. Perhaps instead of employing Commercial Managers who are so far removed from East Lancashire reality we should emulate Stanley who made it look so easy today.- 1414 replies

Friendlies aren't just about fitness as many have said. Of course it's important for the players to get game time but I thought today was important for the players to impress a new manager who equally wanted to run the rule over them and how they can adapt to his methods and tactics. One thing I do agree with though is the result is immaterial. Next week at Celtic I don't think everyone who played today will get some game time so the process of Tomasson assessing the players has begun and some will be cast aside. I was right next to the Rovers technical area today and although Tomasson was generally quiet he did get uppity on a few occasions. I am still of the belief that we need four or five players who will be ready to play for the first team of at the very least squad players. Three weeks from now we will have played our first game and with each passing day I am getting more worried about the squad being too weak. -
I was talking specifically about the goal he scored at Workington last Saturday Bruce. It was a chip from 30 yards but legend has turned it into a chip from the half way line.
-
It wasn't quite the half way line but closer to 30 yards out. It was a great finish nevertheless.

The Blackpool match on August 31st has been chosen for live coverage by Sky with the kick off moving to 8 pm.

There is a plan in place for any Rovers fans going in Coleys. -
Your dedication to this my friend has been remarkable and I'm sure your figures have been used by lots of us in conversations about season tickets. Well done and thanks.

It depends what time you arrive. About an hour before kick off there will be plenty of street parking but given that there should be a big crowd these will be taken up quickly. There is a big car park behind the away end on Livingstone Road and last season a donation was required to access this. -
The Ryan Nyambe Appreciation Thread
arbitro replied to blueboy3333's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Chris Wilder took the Championship by storm with his overlapping centre backs. I can really see Nyambe fitting into this system if Wilder is playing three at the back. I think he is suited to a three as evidenced by his performance against West Brom and several times for Namibia. -

If Mowbray was still here and the stagnant transfer business was as it is there would be an absolute outcry from the vast majority of posters. Tommason has come in and it's a clean slate so he is being, rightly so, cut some slack. The real problem during transfer windows hasn't always been the managers fault. Invariably it's down to the convoluted, onerous way these people operate and the ridiculously slow process of getting approval to spend. I don't know what promises were made to the new management team about budgets but from the outside the elephant is still well and truly in the room.
