  1. Thanks. Rhyl could be the first of many. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/52376408
  2. I didn't. Can you give me the gist of what he said please?
  3. You have raised probably the most important point in this crisis when you mention season tickets. For most clubs outside the PL (where TV money dwarfs all other income) the summer is vital as it's when the bulk of their cash comes in. Given the uncertainty at the moment (and for some time yet I think) I doubt clubs have been able to give season tickets much thought. The worst case would be no spectators until next year and that would mean half season tickets being available but the other side of the coin is that many clubs just won't survive that long with no money coming in. There is no easy way out of this for many. As you rightly say football is at the crossroads and sadly many clubs will go the way of Bury. For many of the ones that survive will be run on a shoestring. I fear that we will fall into that category.
  4. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/52381612 The clubs in the National Leagues have been decisive and ended their competitions immediately although there needs to be further discussion on promotion and relegation. I wonder what BT Sports have done as they have the tv rights to the National League including playoffs. The comments from the Barrow director are interesting considering the selfish comments we have seen from some of the big hitters.
  5. https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/11976052/charlton-athletic-takeover-by-east-street-investments-under-investigation-by-efl It seems that Charlton are in bother again but equally the EFL and it's 'fit and proper' test should be investigated thoroughly. Taken from the article is this: But majority shareholder Tahnoon Nimer has still yet to satisfy EFL requests for proof and source of funding. He is now being investigated, along with former executive chairman Matt Southall and Jonathan Heller, who were both removed from the Charlton board last month after a bitter civil war for control of the Championship club.
  6. I have just watched The Unforgotten again and enjoyed it as much second time around. It's essentially about a cold case team and there are three series and the cherry on the cake is it's British. The excellent Nicola Walker takes the lead role but each series has many top drawer actors and actresses.I If a whodunnit is your thing then I recommend this.
  7. When I watch football I want there to be some atmosphere and background noise. The notion of hearing players voices echoing around an empty stadium just doesn't appeal to me at all. I recently spoke to a couple of ex professionals who said the lack of motivation that empty stadiums would engender would effect the intensity and overall quality of the football. I completely agree with him too having refereed games behind closed doors.
  8. You are making the mistake of thinking everybody is interested in the sports you mention. I pay for Sky essentially for football and rugby league. I have never watched golf, F1 or basketball and have no desire to do so. And I will not be watching televised football in empty stadiums.
  9. With regard to Sky I believe they will lose their stranglehold over football due to the many cancelled subscriptions they will get in the near future. One of their main sources of income is from overseas broadcasting with pubs and clubs also contributing a large amount. With pubs being closed and many unlikely to open Sky are desperately worried. I have spoken to friends and family and they have all said they will cancel their subscriptions rather than watch live football in empty stadiums. The Sky deal lasts until the end of next season and contractually I don't know if they can wriggle out of it or at the very least dilute it. The landscape of football is about I believe to change and hopefully for the better. Perhaps the real issues like silly kick off times and expecting fans to travel inordinate distances unnecessarily in midweek will be reviewed if the Sky bubble bursts.
  10. What about going in and coming out of the ground, travelling, queuing to buy tickets etc, emergency evacuation and other things. I just don't believe it's practical to safely open any sports ground or any mass gatherings whilst there is a threat of this horrible virus is still around.
  11. Social distancing is here for a good while yet and the examples you give are far more important than football where it's virtually impossible to stay a safe distance. I will go when it's deemed safe and I feel confident enough to.
  12. That would be a worry but I really don't think there will be the same money swishing about in the game. I honestly think the wider fear is that football's Golden Goose (Sky) isn't going to come out of this too well and the knock on effect will have huge ramifications for professional football.
  13. That's a poor example - it's completely unnecessary risk. You passing on a virus will certainly lower other people's standard of living for sure.
  14. Quite a few on here have been saying that football as we have known it in 'modern' times will never be the same again. The ridiculous wages, Sky's total command of the game, agents and a plethora of other things will be streamlined and hopefully the game is given back to the fans in respect of a sensible pricing structure across anything football related and maybe board representation. The great shame is that it will take this horrible virus to give the powers that be the kick up the backside they desperately needed.
  15. Kidd was the manager at Barrow for a spell. I'm sure they were in the Northern Premier League at the time.
  16. Thanks for that Lenny. I had it in my mind for decades that it was a night match and an earlier post on this thread sowed the seeds of doubt in my mind. I should have applied my old refereeing adage of 'never change your mind'. ???
  17. I was of the same opinion but when I checked one was on the 12th and the other the 26th. I assumed Saturdays but it could have been mid week.
  18. I read it as McEwans Lager? The scarf appears to have BRDSC on it. Any any ideas?
  19. The lack of fans would be a big reason for me not to subscribe. Games in empty stadiums that I have seen lack passion and aesthetically just doesn't do it for me. And the quality of the stream? When I read post match comments from some of our overseas fans about the stream lots are critical of it.
  20. They were close together John with Brighton on April 12th and Bournemouth on April 26th. As Tyrone said McNamee got a brace in the first game in a 2-2 draw and we beat Bournemouth 2-1. I was also wrong in saying one was a night match, it appears that both were Saturday games. Toe bunger? How very dare you. But Mac was a thoroughbred who Maldini modelled his game on ??.
  21. I was sure it was Bournemouth but it could have been Brighton. Easy mistake, both South coast beginning with 'B' (a poor excuse for a diminishing memory btw) ??.
  22. It certainly will be a disaster for small clubs and many won't survive but I also think that football in general without fans in a stadium will put it on the road to ruin. If the same thing happens over here that is being mooted in Germany (empty stadiums until at least next year) I really believe that lots of regular supporters will stop going. And more worryingly for the big clubs lots of armchair fans, pubs and clubs won't want to pay for games on tv in an empty, soulless stadium in my view. I really feel that the game as we have known it for nearly thirty years is about to change massively in respect of the Sky golden goose. Further down the food chain we will probably see fine old clubs going part time or even out of business.
  23. It was a night match against Bournemouth as I recall. We were in the Blackburn End and it was like an exocet into the top corner. During that era we only seemed to score 'scruffy' goals so that one sticks out for me also. Was Sir Roger in goal for Bournemouth that nighr?
  24. I think there will be casualties at all levels of football Stuart. The next Sky payment is crucial to the majority of PL clubs which will probably determine their futures. I spoke to a friend today and he said whilst German football is looking likely to begin next month the authorities don't believe there will be any spectators allowed until next year.
