Agreed. All this new fangled technological assistance they now have and we still see the same errors. I stood behind a linesman at an under 21 game and the nonsense they come out with over the comms was eye opening. Things like 'he's onside' and 'goal kick' when it's bloody obvious would have driven me crazy. The use of the flag used to tell me. -

I know it's a different era now and I never had any communication equipment but I would have been embarrassed to be effectively overruled by a linesman who was at least fifty yards further away than me. -

Thanks. I tried to but couldn't get past that page with the error message to log out. I deleted BRFCS from my bookmarks and tried to save it again but if I try and even get onto it the same message appears. Hopefully it can be resolved simply! -

The coach had dropped the five of them off and they were waiting for friends or family to pick them up. I'm guessing they live in South Manchester. In general I take your point but Watford is a bugger to get to by air or rail. -

That's it in a nutshell Ian. A few years ago that wouldn't have been given as it clearly wasn't deliberate but the muddied waters created by blazers with no feel for the game have killed that. Interestingly I didn't think the referee actually gave it. The delay was almost certainly because he was told over the comms. My initial suspicion was it was the fourth official but I spoke to several Rovers players at Knutsford services last night and they were told it was the far side linesman who I thought had the worst view of the four of them. I'll find out for certain this week. -

Morning. Since the maintenance work over the weekend I haven't been able to access the forum using my Kindle. I can only get on through 'use private tab' which means I have to log on every time. Is there anything I can do to just get normal access like I used to on my Kindle. PS please factor in that I'm a luddite when it comes to technical tho be particularly blurb. just to add I get a message saying '400 Bad request and Request Header Or Cookie Too Large nginx -
I would play him in the under 21's for a few games to see if Downing's coaching is having any effect on his game. We simply can't afford him occupying a place in the match day squad particularly now Leonard is fit and a better option.
-
If he isn't doing it now given his age then I really don't think it can be coached into him. He shows no instinctive traits that a Championship striker should have.
-
His movement in the box is poor. He was static on the two incidents you have mentioned from yesterday. Good strikers work between the posts when anticipating a cross. He makes himself easy to mark with his lack of movement.

Playing well and losing only goes a really small way to making me feel any better than I did after Coventry and Plymouth when we were awful. Missing chances undoubtedly cost us today as the Watford players and the crowd were decidedly edgy and had we scored first I have no doubt we would have won. We started really well, in the front foot and with some intensity. The chances we missed seemed to give Watford a bit of belief and the changes their manager made certainly improved them as they attacked with some real pace. Defensively we were ok as we were in the defensive midfield area but from an attacking point of view we were poor. The honeymoon period is over for Weimann and Gueye with the latter really looking out of his depth. His movement in the penalty area was Gallagheresque. At least Ohasi has clever movement and looks to run in behind, quite simply be is a far better option in my view. Hopefully with Leonard now looking fit and sharp there is more competition as Ohashi and Gueye have almost been guaranteed game time as the only two fit forwards we have. The penalty they got is the right decision for me. It's a modern day penalty following the plethora of edicts the referees have to factor in. This one definitely falls into the 'unnatural position' category and I'm sure we would have screamed for it had it been at the other end. I'm not saying I agree with the way the referees are told to judge this type of incident. When I was an active referee the only criteria when dealing with handball was whether or not it was deliberate. Our away form is becoming a concern and it's a conundrum that Eustace has to come up with a solution to. -
Although I haven't seen anything official it appears we have a new set piece coach. On each corner for and against last night Eustace and Gardiner sat down and Ben Benson was shouting instructions and gesturing from the technical area. I have noticed several Premier League clubs doing the same this season.
-
Hyam could hardly run in the last few minutes but if Carter and McFadzean are out he will have to play. In other areas we have cover but I do sense a reluctance from Eustace to make too many changes. I like Eustace but I do think sometimes he lacks a bit of tactical nous. Last night it was crying out for a ball over the top as West Brom had a high line and press. We did it twice and got in behind but I saw many other opportunities where Ohashi, Cantwell and Dolan made an angled run to stay onside but the pass never came. We simply didn't see them so maybe there is culpability on our own players as well as Eustace. I also noticed this at Plymouth when Eustace admitted the game plan was to essentially defend for an hour against a high pressing team.
-
A really hard earned point which many would have taken at 7.45. It was a game that Eustace set us up not to lose which I completely understand. At times we were like the away team as we sat in and played on the break. I thought some of the changes we made should have happened sooner as it appeared a few were struggling. Hopefully Carter isn't going to be missing for too long but I fear the worst having seen him being helped around the pitch. With McFadzean out all of a sudden we are struggling for centre halves. The clean sheet is a big plus tonight and that's five for the season now. Keeping clean sheets in the Championship is one way to success. With the games coming thick and fast now I really think Eustace has to rotate his squad a bit more.
-
But he was good enough to come on in the cauldron of Turf Moor.
-
Why when it's what I believe. One of my gripes with Eustace is that he prefers experience and that's all well and good in some situations but in this instance his reluctance to play a natural right back hung Carter out to dry and contributed to a couple of defeats.
-
One of the reasons for a lack of footfall is the clubs insistence on the move to digital tickets. I would go in and buy them and have a browse in the shop. I still go in to pick away tickets up (there is an option to have them posted) but many don't. In my view this has contributed to the closing of the shop on Mondays and reduced opening hours for the rest of the week. I think the club would spin it another way but the coincidence of the two is there to see
-
1200+ West Brom fans are expected but once again no sales on the day to away fans.
-
In the right back debate everyone seems to have missed the player who I believe is the best right back at the club. Leo Duru is ahead of Brittain, JRC and Carter but continues to be over by the manager. He was outstanding yesterday for the under 21's.
-
He is a first year scholar so 16 possibly 17. I think it was his debut at under 21 level and it took a few minutes to get used to the pace but once he settled he was good.
-
A really enjoyable match at Accrington where a young Rovers team played some really good stuff and the goals were excellent. We rode our luck and were generally second best in the first half but went in one up. A smart substitution at half time have us a more solid look but we conceded early on to a great strike. Impressively the youngsters didn't let their heads drop and scored from two fast, flowing moves. By the final whistle we had three first year scholars playing, another testimony to the great work at the Academy.

We have had pretty much four thousand plus walk ons for every home game so far. It must be unusual for a Championship club to consistently have approximately 50% of its home crowd as non season ticket holders. And it appears the club aren't doing much to turn these walk ons into season ticket holders. -

Ipswich are a prime example of a winning culture after years of stagnation. Two promotions and could probably sell their ground out twice over. They will only survive by accruing enough points and that includes winning. Being a yo-yo club involves winning games too you know. How is promotion achieved? -

Pretty much everything at a professional football club is measured by winning games. Bigger crowds, commercial revenue and lots of other things are by products of winning. -

The objective in any football match is winning and we did just that. Of course I would have liked a performance with panache and exhilarating football but that costs a lot of money. The first half of last season we saw lots of exciting play but invariably drew or lost. I will take a scabby, scruffy win any day of the week. After a hugely disappointing defeat at Plymouth I was interested to read the managers comments about the game plan and keeping it tight for an hour and then bringing on some attack minded players. An early Plymouth goal put paid to that. Yesterday seemed to be the converse of this as we scored early and were then content (but not entirely comfortable) to defend and play on the break. It's a risky tactic but when it works then in my view we can't have too much cause for complaint. Playing players in their best positions helped us yesterday particularly defensively. Hopefully Eustace has learned from his errors in recent weeks in this respect. I'm sure that on their five hour journey home Swansea fans would have been delighted with a scruffy win rather than seeing lots of pretty patterns and no end product. Each to their own I suppose.
