The Summer Transfer Window (Press Submit)
arbitro replied to RoversClitheroe's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
If there is some money to spend I think it will replicate last season's pittance spent on the likes of Telalovic and Wahlstedt. I honestly can't see the squad improving and if we sell Szmodics it will be considerably weakened. As ever with Rovers 2011 I will believe it I see it. Until then my derision will prevail. -
So in theory they could challenge the EFL if City win their case and set a precedent. Most Championship clubs are put at an unfair advantage against clubs with parachute payments which could form the basis of their case. However I don't for one minute think they would do it.

I wonder if the EFL have an equivalent of the Association Party Rule? This rule can restrict the amount of sponsorship money that a company associated to the club (I believe Etihad Airways is owned by one of the City owners family for example) for obvious reasons and as such will have to be approved by the league. If there is something similar in the EFL I wonder if the sponsorship deal that the VH Group do with Rovers has been approved. It was reported at the time as a 'multi million' package and covered all teams from under 9's to the ladies and 'enhancing their visual presence'. https://www.rovers.co.uk/news/2023/july/19/rovers-strike-significant-sponsorship-deal-/

Some of the things in the article are ridiculous like London clubs can charge more for tickets so City want to have artificially inflated sponsorship to balance this off. This could make or break the Premier League as we know it.
-
Adam gets his Legacy Cap.
-
This is getting pretty heavy now. It appears that City are getting their retaliation in first for the 114 charges brought against them.
-
I think he may have got under 21's selection whilst here but certainly not full squad recognition. The Premier League gave him a platform undoubtedly but nobody will tell me he improved so significantly after 16 games at Palace to justify his selection. He is doing the same things and playing the same way as he did here. The talent has always been there, evident since he was a kid. He has risen to the challenge of playing with and against better players as many of us knew he would.

It was recognised elsewhere. After his debut at Blackpool the number of clubs represented at Rovers games increased dramatically with many sending their DOF's to watch him, a trend that continued up until he was sold. It was only a matter of time before he went and I think everyone accepts that. What really irks me are the circumstances in which he was sold which is down to the owners nefarious business dealings. That is unforgivable.
-
He wasn't for sale and there was no intention of selling him in January. The Indian court decision changed all that which is why everything happened so quickly close to the deadline. Parrish played a blinder and simply took advantage of our desperate and instant need for money. The way it happened was one of the pre cursors to Tomasson leaving. There was a feeling at Ewood that he would be loaned back for the rest of the season by Palace but they knew he would hit the ground running and immediately improve them.

Metronome? What the hell is that. His running stats at Rovers were among the best in the club and he was recorded as the second fastest ever sprinter in the Academy. I've read a few of your posts were you pick up on what you consider his weaknesses but nobody else sees them least of all too managers and coaches. If course he can improve but he's 20.

Congregations to Adam on winning the first of what will be many England caps. His performances won't have gone unnoticed by the big clubs who will be hovering soon to entice Palace with big money. Shame on Waggott, Pasha and most of all the errant ones. What really galls me is that if Adam knocked on their door in Pune they wouldn't know who he is yet he was used as a pawn because of their business indiscretions.

I fully endorse that Gav. Seeing the tributes to Rob last night was so emotional and the recurring word that they all used was brave. That one word more than any other summed him up. RIP Rob Burrows.

My take is they needed a reason to get rid of Broughton who was an ally of Tomasson. His job is effectively defunct. The cost cutting story isn't official - I was told about it and joined the dots. In truth does it really surprise you though that through poor, ineffective management a silly decision ends up costing more money? Since December I believe there has been a civil war akin to the days of Singh, Agnew and Shaw.

This is an article primarily about Luton but in it there is a sentence that says they have been tracking Tyrhys Dolan for some time. Perhaps this was the reason for Rovers invoking the extra year. https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/luton-transfer-news-man-utd-32935346 -
I was told that Broughton was released as a cost cutting measure, effectively made redundant. As such Rovers couldn't replace him with someone and give them the same job description - employment law forbids this. My guess is that the job title and description have changed to get around this. It goes back to the power struggle that Tomasson and Broughton had with Waggott and Suhail when there was only going to be one winner, the pair with a hotline to Pune.

2024/25 Season Tickets

I don't think the likes of Waggott or Read understand the local mentality and mindset. John Williams didn't when he arrived but quickly came to understand us and Rovers reaped the benefits. -

I guess it depends what length of contract he wants. Last summer the errant ones wouldn't sign Baath because he wanted a two year deal and they wouldn't agree due to his age and there wouldn't be any resale value. It probably depends what this season's 'project' is as last season's disappeared rapidly in January. -

Well done wilsdenrover and MarkBRFC. Three records being broken proves to me that it has been one of my strangest seasons watching Rovers. -

I saw Mark Bowen's name linked on here as a possible replacement for Broughton. In light of this https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/c0jjg9lp3vpo I can't see it happening. -

On the subject of records I was helping my granddaughter who is doing a project for history about something local (she chose Rovers) and realised that three records were broken last season. Can anybody name them? -
It was the Dingles who wanted him. He was never interested in it.
-
Steve Cooper hasn't been interviewed.

I think there will be an increase on the number of season tickets sold but I also believe that the increase will largely be down to the number of new under 12 tickets. I have spoken to quite a few people who will be buying them for their kids/grandkids simply because it works out at £1 per game. Undoubtedly Waggott and Read will positively spin it. It would be nice to know what the actual demographic of sales is when the tickets go off sale.
