We are going up (the optimism thread)

By another Mowbray do you mean a man in the most comfortable of comfort zones who will happily sail along in mid table whilst earning a fortune? -

It's a great initiative as the Girona match was. It's incumbent on all Rovers fans to plug this and drum up support and show the powers that be what Ewood could be like if the price was right. -

Ah right 🤣. Carter stayed on after treatment and the obligatory thirty second wait. -
I wrote to Waggott some time ago asking about the possibility of a reciprocal deal and I said I fully understand the need to charge Leeds fans full price and if that was the case he might want to consider offering us discounted tickets for the game at Elland Road subsidised by the club. That way he still gets a bit payday at Ewood and offers a gesture of goodwill and understanding to Rovers fans (as well as a smack in the eye for greedy Leeds). He didn't say no outright but the tone of his reply suggested to me he's not interested.

It was our first substitution and probably after about twenty minutes. He did have lengthy treatment but a lot of that was to bandage him up and to assess him I think. He didn't stay on. He was still being treated when we noticed Travis ready to come on so the decision to take him off was made quickly. In fairness he looked a bit groggy walking off but I noticed him celebrating with the other players in front of us at the end of the game. I think part of the protocol is a regular assessment for something like 48 hours after the incident but I'm sure Rovers would do something similar as part of their safeguarding policy. -
Well done young lady 😂😂

Carter took quite a heavy knock and had treatment and when he came back on his movement wasn't too good. It looked to be a soft tissue injury like a dead leg. I noticed that Stoke only made five substitutions on Saturday. If Travis was a concussion substitute for Wharton then us and Stoke would have been afforded an extra change so hopefully Scott doesn't have to go through the concussion protocols. -
I imagine that applies to league matches only. In the League Cup we have finished a couple of matches with something like eight Academy graduates on the pitch.

If you have read the article the pitfall I refer to is about being given advice.

A really good article which highlights the potential pitfalls of wealthy but naive young footballers with plenty of money. It sounds like he is getting things back on track and good luck to him.

After Stoke had made their substitutions yesterday I remarked what a big side they were and they looked physically intimidating. And pretty much to a man Rovers players stood up to them and their physicality by winning headers and tackles. I read so many comments after the Nobbers game about how they were bigger, stronger, bullied us etc and thought the opinions were way off the mark. Yesterday disproved the theory about not being intimidated by bigger and potentially more physical teams and the game reminded me of the recent win at Millwall when every player stood up to be counted. I see it as another aspect of the way Tomasson coaches us and the mentality he is instilling amongst the squad. -

Pretty much the perfect away performance for me. Score early, defend excellently and play on the break and score another two. Tomasson got his tactics right again as we frustrated the life out of Stoke by denying them space in the final third. Losing Scott was a real blow but that was cushioned by the knowledge that James Hill could just move across to centre half and dominate the Stoke strikers. Lots of 8/10 performances today but I thought Hayden Carter was immense -for me the best individual performance of the season. The way we are playing is so easy on the eye, the players trust say other but more importantly trust and believe in what Tomasson is instilling into them. The decisions they make sometimes are wrong and errors are still made but the clear thing for me is that the majority of them have improved under Tomasson and he is squeezing every last drop from them. I have to say the away support was excellent today too. There is something now for them to be proud of again as this young squad develop under the tutelage of the best manager we have had for many a year -
I was at the Christmas Sparkle on Thursday and spoke to one of the shop assistants who told me that there would not be any more stock arriving of new kits. Looking at the stock they had there wasn't too much so I think if anybody wants to buy any for Christmas they need to get down there quickly. Selling out will probably be spinned by some as a positive but I'll wager there will be plenty of fans who want to buy something but can't because of the lack of foresight.

I really expected both of at least one of Telalovic or Leonard to be taken off on the hour mark when I saw their names on the team sheet.
-
It was strange how Ennis just disappeared today. Nobody noticed he had gone off until we saw his replacement on the half way like ready to come on. We didn't see anybody go off and it was only a look at the remaining players that we realised Ennis had gone off. I looked at the technical area - not there, looked to see if he was walking back to the changing room - no sign of him doing that. He just vanished, really strange. Up until him disappearing he was playing quite well and showed some nice touches as well as a well taken goal. Telalovic showed up well too but Harry Leonard played really well. He scored three, held the ball up well and showed some real aggression. The watching Tomasson must have been impressed by him. In the end it was a really comfortable win against a youthful Preston team with some good individual performances.

It's clear enough to me that it's a penalty. The Italian committed himself to the challenge and Mudryk's touch was before the challenge came in. The Italian was therefore late and there was clear contact on Mudryk not on the ball. What is really surprising is that according to the reports it wasn't reviewed. -

https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/uefa-president-who-angered-ukraine-31488241 There is a potential storm brewing here as Italy qualified for the Euro's because of their head-to-head record against Ukraine and the UEFA President said before the match that it would be a disaster if Italy didn't qualify. Ukraine were denied a clear penalty in the second minute of stoppage time and there was no VAR intervention. The incident is about five minutes in on here. -
John McNamee, Graham Hawkins, Micky Speight, Ken Knighton, Glenn Keeley, Faz, Ryan Nelsen, Alan Shearer and Craig Short were tough players and immediately spring to mind. The game has moved on immeasurably since some of them played and the real tough guys are pretty much a dying breed. I can't think of one modern day player who I would categorise as a hard man.

There is also a designated away fans pub a few minutes walk from the train station from where they run buses to the ground. I used the bus service a few seasons back and it was pretty much full of lairy, boozed up (or whatever) adolescents giving it the big 'un. I had my granddaughter with me but the saving grace was that several police rode on the bus with us. -

This is probably the most novel way of providing per match drinks and food particularly given the dearth of pubs around the ground. I have passed it several times in match days and it is busy and seems welcoming. If you park on Campbell Road it's a 10-15 minute walk and then 5 minutes to the ground. -
Everton have said they are to appeal so if the authorities are true to form they have gone in hard and will be prepared to compromise. I haven't seen any mention of a fine yet.

Cirino hasn't played this season to the best of my knowledge. I wouldn't last the concession of so many goals at the door of the centre halves to be fair. Mistakes and carelessness all over the pitch have put us on the back foot far too many times. Atcheson is only 17 and strictly speaking should still be with the under 18's and he didn't play last night. Last night we had a 15, 16 and two 17 year olds playing so patience is required. I'm not certain of the ages of some of the others but it wouldn't surprise me if a few more were of a similar age.
