Hugely disappointing day which seemed a game too far for some of our players. The concession of a wholly preventable goal in the third minute undoubtedly gave them a lift along with the crowd. In the first period we were ponderous, played far too slow and wanted too much time on the ball. We still created chances though as we got in behind three or four times. We were better in the second half and our best period of play saw us create chances and then score. At that point I would have taken a draw given how we had played but we were hit with a real sucker punch when they got their second and it really knocked the stuffing out of us. I couldn't tell from where I was it there was a foul but there were certainty vociferous complaints from several Rovers players. Our bench resembled a creche and it's difficult to impose a real change on the game with youngsters who are still using Calpol. So we have to take it on the chin, get back to work and prepare for Leeds next week. I thought the referee was poor today. He seemed to be trying to manage situations which from my viewpoint required stronger action. Bad tackles cannot be managed and in Law require stronger punishment that a talking to.

Out of Gamble and Atcheson I would play Atcheson if the need arose. I see a lot of Ash Phillips in him.

Just seen that neither Gamble or Atcheson were in the under 21's tonight which could indicate that Scott Wharton isn't yet available. We lost 4-0 by the way.

The cut off is 19 games and Saturday is our 19th so Szmodics will have to tread carefully but I honestly wouldn't consider not starting him. Hopefully there is an opportunity to take him off if we get into a decent position.

Since the West Brom game on day one of looks like he has bulked up. He held the ball up particularly well on a few occasions with Birmingham players looking to out muscle him. His confidence to turn and play Szmodics in for the second goal is a measure of his improvement for me.

To quote Tomasson some of the youngsters are 'learning on the job'. In an ideal world he would still be playing regularly in under 21 football but needs must. I saw him score three against Preston in the Central League Cup recently and his finishing was first class.

My post wasn't a generalisation to be critical of the majority of fans who I believe understand the game. I was referring to a few posts only, one in particular questioned his propensity to play in the Championship.

Harry Leonard has started thirteen games this season, scored three goals and has two assists. He is improving before our eyes and most importantly is nineteen years old. I find it difficult to be mildly critical of him and his potential is huge. Anybody writing him off clearly doesn't understand the game.

Taking Travis off was probably to do with his impending suspension after he got his fifth yellow card of the season. The threshold is 19 games and hopefully Szmodics (on four) doesn't get one on Saturday otherwise he'll miss the Leeds game.

After a turgid first half who would have thought there would be six goals in the second half? In the first period we played too slow, too passive which played into their hands. I reckon Tomasson got stuck into them at half-time and for twenty minutes they couldn't get near us. It was everything we are good at. Great movement, one and two touch play and a real intensity. Going three up should have seen us coasting for the last twenty five minutes but one error from Brittain leading to a goal and three positive changes gave them some real impetus and when they scored again I and the majority of fans feared the worst. Thankfully we got the sixth goal of the game to kill them off. There are no gimmes in the Championship and wins have to be earned and the effort those players put in is terrific. A few were running on empty by the end but they all deserve the plaudits for their sheer graft. Three points, scoring four and our goal difference improving - what's not to like 😆

I have bought extra tickets today and donated to the fund to purchase tickets for others not for any personal gratification but to show Waggott what untapped support there is for our club. The Preston game was probably the best I have seen him play. He has several real attributes but as you mention Nyambe he seems to lack self confidence similar to him. Clearly the watching JDT was impressed against Preston, enough to put him on the bench.

Our of the woodwork comes MP. Mowbray wasted a fortune here, if Tomasson had been given a fraction of what Mowbray got we would have been comfortably above them. However if you are comparing Mowbrays staid, bland management style to Tomassons you need your bumps feeling.

For the above games home fans who weren't members were charged the prices you quote for the Kop which is the equivalent of the Leppings Lane where we are (the local derby against Rotherham was £27 too). My understanding is that they are not allowed to charge away fans more unless there is an offer. I too don't believe there has been a reciprocal deal rather Waggott has tried to hoodwink the fans once again.
