  1. Pele scored 77 goals in 92 international appearances for Brazil. That's awful lot of misses in "tinpot" football. . For me, it's who I enjoyed watching, not just the goals or the brilliance, but the beauty of the movement. Pele and Eusebio were beautiful to watch, as is Cristiano Ronaldo in modern football..... it's just something in the way they move.
  2. Will always be a cheat. Among the top 10 players but several better than him ...... 2 of them currently playing. Sad for his family but no one else
  3. Brereton was a revelation to me....clearly enjoying his football at the moment, his delight at setting up Dolan' goal was good to see.
  4. Total opposite to the Luton game when we looked weak and ineffective..... why can't Mowbray get the team to play like that more often?
  5. Cassandra strikes..... that's a nailed-on Preston win then
  6. Ayala's like a classic car..... looks good but inevitably comes with alot of maintenance problems. I don't think the Rovers medical staff are at fault n this case. Rovers knew they were taking on a bit of an old banger when they signed him.
  7. They'll always be halves in my book renrag.
  8. We've made jokes about Mowbray and his pension fund but there must be a serious side and an element of truth to it ......he will have added a good seven figure sum to his already likely substantial pot while he's been at Ewood. I'm sure his pension adviser will have worked out that if he can eke out another 18 months he will be able to enjoy a very lucrative and comfortable retirement indeed.
  9. I'd say it was divided into 2 halves - you can't see the shirt from both sides at the same time after all. Is the Bristol Rovers shirt divided into eighths? It's been done to death but still splits the fans! Back to PNE anyway. About time we beat them
  10. Have to pick you up on the "quarters" Bazza. Always halves to me
  11. Yet another soft goal given away by poor defending and the surprise was we actually equalised. Poor performance overall and typical of a mid-table side that's going nowhere.
  12. Gawd, here we go again. Every game is difficult to Tony. Excuses already in place. Luton 2 Rovers 0

  14. My memory of Green was that we rejected him as not being good enough....might be wrong though
  15. I was sitting in the Nuttall Stand that night ....... it was literally shaking! Never forget the swaying of the crowd on the Riverside.... how those barriers held up I'll never know. 42,000 on Ewood!
  16. That place is now a Co-op.....how can a great pub like that go under/
  17. Luton were a decent First Division out fit under Pleat in the 1980s. The Futcher and Stein brothers played for them - good players. Saw them lose to Arsenal in the League Cup final around 1985 I agree with your post though. The likes of Bournemouth, Watford, Brighton, Crystal Palace etc , to me are third and fourth division clubs playing way above their level. To fans of a certain age it seems incredible to see them in the top flight while clubs such as Sunderland, Sheffield Wednesday, Middlesbrough, proud Preston, Birmingham and Forest langusih.
  18. Playing with your back to goal and shielding the ball with a defender up your backside is a difficult skill and takes years to learn - Danny Graham was very good at it - and Brereton is getting better. The lad can play too outside the box, as he's shown in patches over the past 2 seasons. He needs to score more goals though, get on the end of crosses, be brave and stick his head and boot in to get the last touch in front of defenders, and be more cute in his movements inside the area. When he starts to do that we'll have a .very good forward worth the £7m we paid.
  19. The lad is 22, a full time professional footballer who has just been given a 4-year contract, not a 10 year old learning the game. Not having the goalkeeping basics at his age (which he doesn't) is like an outfield player not being to control the ball. From what I've seen he should not be anywhere near the first team.
  20. Dealing with crosses is as basic as catching the ball. It's one of the main functions of any good goalkeeper. An amateur keeper would be embarrassed at dealing with crosses the way Pears does. Any Championship manager watching that tonight would tell his team to pepper the Rovers box with crosses. He's a weak link and not good enough to be a No 2.
  21. Dealing with crosses is goalkeeping basics and irrelevant to the way any team plays
  22. Q. So why are "poor side" Boro in 5th and "poor side" Rovers in 15th? A: They're a much better side than us with a better manager
  23. A "poor side" in 5th place . So what does that make us?
