  1. I agree that Hyam, Carter, Tronstad, Travis and Ohashi all pick themselves. I fear that Eustace will stick with Pears in the near future but he has to play Toth. We cant keep playing Pears considering how poor he is. There will be a big decision to make at left back with 2 players who can both feel aggrieved if they dont play. I would put JRC at right back with Brittain being defensively poor. In attacking midfield we will have various options and again I suspect that Eustace will probably go with Dolan, Hedges and Weimann. Hedges again whilst working hard was ineffective going forward and Dolan repeatedly made poor decisions. I would love to see Cantwell and Cozier Duberry start to give us some guile and pace respectively, with Weimann deserving to keep his place too. I expect the same team as yesterday beside a change of striker. I would go: Toth JRC Carter Hyam Beck Travis Tronstad Cozier Duberry Cantwell Weimann Ohashi
  2. He did it repeatedly though, for far too long. Easy to blame the referee who was very poor throughout but in this instance the blame lies with Gueye for stupidity.
  3. Definitely. It was the second counter attack where his poor decision making let us down after failing to square to Weimann for a tap in earlier on.
  4. Press resistant and plays through the lines. Love the new jargon. Its ok because these games are just unwanted, pointless nations league games against poor opposition, so it doesnt really matter who plays. I suspect many will pull out as this international break is an inconvience to everyone. But there is no logic to Wharton not playing, and Carsley has just stuck half of his old under 21 team in the squad. Take Morgan Gibbs White for example. Good player, but is there any need when we have Foden, Palmer and Eze?
  5. I presume it was Hedges who was given as offside as he was interfering with play and there wasnt that much in it, but he was just onside. It was a close one but one that VAR would have overturned. If today is anything to go by then our best 2 full backs are unfortunately both left backs. It leaves some strong competition on that side but as you say we look weaker at right back. Brittain isnt the best defensively and Duru isnt ready. Rankin Costello should be considered there but seemingly wont be, telling that he didnt come on.
  6. My issue is with his immaturity and idiocy. Whether the first yellow card was fair or not, he was on a yellow and what he did left his team mates in the shit. All keepers do make mistakes. He doesnt get unwarranted stick because the issue is the number of mistakes he makes. He isnt Championship standard. Officials make mistakes just like players do. If VAR had been in place we would have likely gone 2-1 up, assuming no foul by Hedges.
  7. Only one is a proper midfielder. Would get overrun.
  8. Beck did very well on his debut, but lets not forget that Pickering has been very good in the 3 games prior. A genuine selection dilemma of the good kind.
  9. Rice, Foden and Palmer would be stupid. Too imbalanced. Wharton should be in the squad.
  10. Problem was he did it instantly, so even if the ref was going to book him, he didnt give him chance. And the gesturing went on for a few seconds so it went beyond a talking to. No excuses. The disallowed goal is something we can feel aggrieved about, if only we had VAR as it was tight.
  11. The referee performance was terrible but doesnt excuse his stupidity.
  12. Whether the rules are different or not, im not sure. He should know the rules and he has no excuse. And he did it for a while. Idiotic behaviour who let everyone down. Cannot do it again.
  13. I dont get why the rule booking a player for asking for a yellow card shouldnt exist. It is terrible sportsmanship. Travis I think played with Garrett in a bizarre team that Tomasson played last time around.
  14. We have a genuine grievance with the disallowed goal, dependant on whether Hedges committed a foul, but there is no excuse for Gueye doing what he did. He let everyone down and was lucky his team mates got him out of the shit.
  15. I dont get this argument. Obviously its about how you spend it, but the more you have, the easier that task becomes. The more scope you have to bring in quality. If you think the recruitment team has done well with what they have, and most do, imagine what they could have done with more money. We are still short in 1 or 2 areas, and lacking 1 or 2 attributes, we could have got those in addition to what we got. We could have added a couple of players who could have been big potentially profitable assets which we dont have. We could have upgraded or signed permanent alternatives to a couple of the players we did get. Obviously there are examples of poor signings for big money and good signings for little to no money. But in general, there is a correlation between teams with money and teams with success for a reason.
  16. Fantastic battling point with 10 men against the odds to continue a very strong start to the season. I am more angry with Gueye than I am with the ref/officials who admittedly were terrible. The disallowed goal perhaps further shows the need for VAR in the Championship. But Gueye is an absolute idiot. No excuses about not being aware of the rules, he repeatedly gestured for a yellow card and forced the referees hand. He let him team mates down who thankfully did brilliantly to get him out of the shit. Beck started all over the place for 15-20- minutes then grew into the game and was excellent after that. Weimann isnt the player he once was but still a very intelligent player and a shrewd pickup with the same intelligence and quality. Its a shame Dolan doesnt share it because he should have squared it for a tap in. Many other strong performances notably the midfield 2 and the centre backs after like Beck a shaky start. Hopefully we can get some more quality into the attack with Cantwell and Cozier Duberry in 2 weeks and with Toth in net and that can push us on.
  17. Maybe Toth will be on the bench too if his clearance has come as Hilton played for the under 21s tonight.
  18. Because if you spend more money, you naturally open the door to a bigger range and better calibre of player? Because if you spend money, you can end up with a higher proportion of players contracted for longer than 1 season? Rather than just 4. Because if you spend money, it allows you to potentially sign assets that can grow and be valuable in the future? As we look thin on the ground in this regard. Because if you have more money, we could potentially have added two or three on top of what we already have? With one or two areas/certain attributes look a bit thin on the ground. It doesnt mean that at least some of our new signings wont be good signings nor would we have swerved them had we had more money. It isn't a reflection of their respective abilities. I think us doing better than you dreamt perhaps shows that expectations were so low to begin with. It may well prove that recruitment has been very efficient amidst the restrictions, but assuming that is the case, those same talent spotters likely would have thrived more with more money.
  19. Both Broughton and the current group were massively hindered by our terrible owners and in different ways. That being said, in the main its hard to argue that Broughton got close to being as efficient as he possibly could even allowing for those restrictions and I am glad hes gone. In his first summer, he had a reasonable budget and bought pretty well. He also had probably less of a wage budget and owners actively reducing his budget mid transfer window, even blocking frees and loans. I would say though, lets not get ahead of ourselves in suggesting that the current group are brilliant in comparison. Broughton tried to be inventive by going abroad in Wahlstedt/Telalovic which failed miserably. Ohashi and Gueye have already shown promise so hopefully we will have more success in this market, Toth is a total unknown at this stage. Broughton was poor in the loan market too, lets hope Beck/Cozier Duberry (less of a risk with Baker but that is almost a free transfer) fare much better than Ayari/Morton/Chrisene but we have little to go on with them too. There is also a bit of overlap in targets as we wanted Cantwell and Batth but the owners wouldnt allow him to do so.
  20. That doesnt mean that he is a better judge because he is a former player.
  21. I would give the rating a 6 out of 10 overall. Firstly, the owners deserve a 0 out of 10. The reinvestment has been pathetic and that cant be ignored. That being said, I feel like the recruitment team has certainly done well with such little resources and hopefully we will be comfortable of any danger. In terms of what we have, the goalkeeper was clearly not first choice and is a risk, the success or otherwise of this season may heavily depend on whether he is coming as first choice and in which case, if he does well. Comes from a very low standard but seemingly is highly rated. Impossible to know on this one. Defensively, Beck gives us good cover for Pickering, if JRC is seen as competition for RB as he should then we are good at full back, as Duru isnt ready yet. At centre back I feel like we are light, Batth I understand, McFadzean I wouldnt have re-signed and it leaves us lacking pace, and we only have 3 who are comfortable playing in a back 4. In midfield, Baker is an experienced addition and we look ok in there with the 4 we have. In attack, I still think we lack pace and leaving deals so late has caused us to miss out on another winger for the left hand side. Szmodics going is irreplacable and im not even sure if the 5 newcomers will get 27 league goals between them. Gueye I think is going to be very important, powerful, good in the air and can hold it up but very erratic and a poor finisher. Ohashi is a clever player but not sure if hes an out and out striker. Weimann will just be a bit part player but a useful player to have off the bench. Cantwell is a risk but one worth taking, if we can get him playing he could be a game changer. And Cozier Duberry is an exciting loan who hopefully can hit the ground running. Overall, centre back is a big issue, we are an out and out striker light, and a lack of athleticism and in particular pace is evident. As you would expect with peanuts, there are big concerns about the longer term health of the squad with all but 4 signings here for only a year and no obvious assets. But I would also say that there is much more balance and depth to the squad, more experience and hopefully a healthier spread of attacking threat. I think the reaction (read the comments under the LT tweet, lots of 9 and 10 out of 10s) is based purely on what the recruitment has been like ignoring the fact that we have spent so little. That has to be a factor. But in terms of what the recruitment team has done amidst these restrictions, a 7 or an 8 out of 10 for me.
  22. That maybe shows how low peoples expectations had become, especially with the timing of the signings being so late. We have spent a slither of the money we have made, 4 permanent deals for a total of maybe £2.5m, 3 veterans on 1 year deals and 3 loanees.
  23. Sigurdsson and Hedges are wide men, albeit slow and not particularly productive ones. Dolan you have repeatedly said is our number 10, and Weimann likewise isnt a wide man. Again, both too slow. And JRC is not a winger.
  24. The new keeper must be on the bench tomorrow.
  25. You specifically said that it is objectively a good window.
