  1. If we barely/dont spend, its all Venkys.
  2. Pissing about with loans having brought in £40m in fees. Wouldnt surprise me if Rushworth went elsewhere and we loaned someone inferior. Ruddy maybe.
  3. Travis was not anywhere near as good as v Derby and Pickering was solid. Neither were woeful.
  4. From reports, it seems that Germain would be as an alternative to a winger which wouldnt make sense. We need a natural winger regardless, but Germain aswell would give us the option to play him or Gueye with Ohashi off him knowing we have someone on the bench to change things up. I think we will have some performances along the way like what Gueye put in today. He is technically poor and I am not convinced yet that he will get loads of goals but he showed in his first 2 games that he has something to offer.
  5. There were justified question marks last season when Eustace failed to win a single home game despite some favourable fixtures. You have to be strong at home. This season we have played 2 promoted sides that look really limited and will likely be right near the bottom. They are games you have to be winning as your bread and butter and we have got all 6 points which is a really solid foundation to build on so very pleasing. Today was not a particularly good performance to be honest and our limitations were clear so it was just about getting over the line. We badly need some pace in the final third, we were quite stodgy and predictable. Dolan continues to underwhelm, Hedges was poor and although he took his goal well, I am still not convinced by JRC. I think we need 2 more attackers with at least one being a quick winger but first need to decide where Ohashi is best placed. I thought he struggled at times as a main striker, hes not the quickest, he struggled to hold it up and his lay offs are often loose. But when he played off Gueye a bit deeper, he came to life more and it allowed him to pick the ball up in clever areas and drive with the ball. If hes seen as playing off the front then we need competition for Gueye as he would be the only senior striker, if not then we could do with a second wide man. Gueye struggled when he came on, I suspect he will come up with performances like this as he is very unpolished, with a wild finish, poor first touches and occasionally causing us problems going back. But he showed what he can do in the first 2 games. Not convinced he will score that many but gives us a different dimension.
  6. Pears is not good enough but that was not a goalkeeping error.
  7. I think your view on loans is too simplistic and dismissive. Its impossible at this stage of a season to discuss the difference between specific places in the league. The primary objective has to be to get as many points this season by getting the best set of players. We do also have to think longer term so if we can get Rushworth, then that should be accompanied with a few buys in other positions. When you make big sales we should and other clubs do then invest in other players to continue that process of building and ensuring that you have a sound business plan. Thats where we likely fall down as we always do under these owners. But one or two loans shouldnt be dismissed because you dont think it will make a difference to very specific placings in the table, as signing increased quality might well boost us up a place or two. At this stage, we dont know exactly where those places lie and whether those placings will be critical in determining what position we will be in next season.
  8. Because especially considering the money brought in, most other clubs would use a chunk of it to buy several players who can improve the team not only in the short but also longer term. As Eustace keeps saying.
  9. Rushworth is good enough to be our number 1. The issue is that it is a loan.
  10. Not many clubs have sold their biggest talent for a club record fee, had their manager leave due to cut backs, survived on the last day and subsequently sold their only goalscorer, spending barely a million pound in the process. The benchmark for ambition is very low. If we do get Rushworth, the main reason will be because other contenders have filled the position with a permanent signing before it became clear that Rushworth could be loaned out.
  11. I doubt he would reject a club that not only he is familiar with, but a club that has shown far more ambition, for us. Swansea signed a number 1 earlier in the summer from Burnley. Maybe at the time they didnt think that Rushworth was likely to happen and/or they just wanted a permanent keeper.
  12. Swansea are close to signing a keeper from America. They were reported to want Rushworth back.
  13. Rather than having players who "can play there" though, and with the transfer window open and considering the money we have brought in, it shouldnt be an unrealistic expectation to sign a couple of players who could not only naturally play in a position that we are lacking natural players in, but also in a way where we can speed up an otherwise snail like squad. Weimann said when he joined that he prefers to play "as a number 10." We only have Dolan there so theres the competition.
  14. Hedges is a winger. JRC isnt, Weimann isnt. Sigurdsson is just not very effective. Speed on either side please. Who am I kidding?
  15. I think youve just put every transfer rumour in the last couple of weeks and added them altogether, assuming we will sign 2 keepers and 3 attacking players.
  16. I dont see how its looking for perfection by suggesting that I am unconvinced that he is playing in his best position on the right hand side of midfield either. It feels like a case of although he is perhaps our best player, because of his versatility and the fact that we have a right back and 2 central midfielders who he also wants to get in, that JRC's versatility works against him in that he is placed where we in general are weak.
  17. But even so, seems strange to focus on one game. Over the course of a season, he earns more points than he costs. I havent seen 2 of the 3 goals so ill take your word that he was at fault for each goal but whilst Pears didnt make that many in a single game, he made 1 or 2 in so many that they totted up into double figures and that was the issue. You have mentioned a preference towards an older goalkeeper. Would you still prefer that (baring in mind a potential physical decline) over someone like Rushworth who is still short term but was Swansea player of the season last year?
  18. With Rushworth, it would depend on what else we did. If he loaned him and bought a couple of wingers, a midfielder and a defender, then fair enough but that wont happen. This below links suggests that it likely will be a loan goalkeeper at this point in the window. I suspect it will be the same for every position conveniently: https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/blackburn-rovers-swansea-city-target-brighton-carl-rushworth/ Its hard not to see Rushworth evading us and Ruddy ending up here. The statement is probably not as much of a lie as it seems. They can fund transfers if they want. They just dont want to, and rarely ever have.
  19. Utterly bizarre to write off Johansson as dodgy based on highlights of one game.
  20. Rushworth would be as good a loan as we could get but we shouldnt be fixing our goalkeeping problem with a temporary solution considering the fees brought in. Im guessing we are amongst a pool of teams for him.
  21. The whispers I am hearing = I want to also appear ITK knowing full well that there is only a week to go in the window.
  22. I dont doubt that the intention is to get Rankin Costello to drift inside with Brittain overlapping and I dont think its a case where people dont understand the logic I just dont think that Rankin Costello has been particularly effective there. He has probably been our weakest outfield performer in the 2 games so far.
  23. Brittain played in front of JRC last season and it didnt work very well. We really look imbalanced and weak in wide areas and with no sign of any permanent solution. We need a new option on both sides.
  24. I dont get why we would sign a 29 year old striker with a brief period of goalscoring and as far as we know, no consistent history of being a winger nor any talk of having considerable pace, to fix the fact that we need a natural wide man with pace. Not that either of the other 2 are ideal choices, especially borrowing them.
