I wonder which players will benefit and be put out by Ismael if he joins. You'd think it might suit Gueye. Tactics of lumping the ball in the air. Woodrow was a favourite of Ismael at Barnsley, obviously Brittain was but is a good player anyway. Anyone with flair will struggle. Cantwell, Kargbo, I don't think he was keen on Dennis either last season at Watford.

You said that our structure is where Owen and Gestede choose a shortlist and the head coach gets the final pick. You seen to think our club efficiently runs using that blueprint. Dembele is one example that you have criticised the club for not signing considering that Eustace wanted him but was overruled. There were a number of players in January that Eustace wanted and didnt get. And he left soon after with that seemingly as one of the reasons. My opinion on any players is irrelevant to the point I am making. The structure you suggest is in place here does not run effectively and efficiently as you suggest. More like, any new head coach needs to fit into a structure of owners not reinvesting sales proceeds, disagreements above his head on signings, very little say in signings and staff in recruitment (or an extension of eg director of football) constantly choosing to leave the club.

Ismael did undoubtedly do well to get an unfancied Barnsley into the play offs during the covid season but he really struggled at both West Brom and Watford, ignoring another brief spell at Besiktas. Questions about his man management arose and also his style became predictable. His style is really hard to watch, we don't need to worry much about our terrible pitch as the ball won't be on it much. I remember at Barnsley he used to always make subs on the hour mark but it became quite predictable. I think the assumed thought process was run the starters into the ground and replace with fresh legs. Also, didn't he play 3/5 at the back at Barnsley, and will he try and do that right away here?
-
Mixed job. Batth good, Beck good. Weimann has been a solid squad player but his legs are going. Cantwell has been poor, ACD poor. McFadzean pointless. Toth crap. Baker, meh. Neither of the 2 strikers have been great, mixed bags really, Ohashi started well and then struggled and vice versa. January signings haven't featured much. All signed for a small amount so it is hard. But point being, you suggested that our current structure is where the higher ups pick a shortlist and a head coach picks from there. As if its a seamless process that is working, despite Eustace being clearly unhappy with a lack of final say.

Coyle's CV has a promotion on it. Is he better than Eustace? Being 6th doesnt mean that the structure of the football club is functional. It doesnt mean that those behind the scenes are doing a good job. Eustace undoubtedly was getting every last drop out of a squad that is limited on ability but also gives its all. You mention that the head coach picks from a shortlist as if that process was perfectly executed under Eustace. Clearly he wasnt happy which suggests it was not always his pick from the shortlist. I thought you would prefer Wagner because of the aforementioned promotion.
-
"Our club structure." Got to fit within that because it works so well. Seems strange to respond to a post about happiness by saying hes foreign as you expected. Did you specifically want a foreign appointment? Or are you happy because you predicted it? You must rate Wagner considering how much you rated Eustace if you think he is better. The king is dead, long live the king. Do you prefer Wagner or Ismael?
-
Do they not? Where is that from? Surely they are the only ones that do. Im sure you were all for the appointment the other day?
-
At least one person is happy with either.
-
Two miserably underwhelming appointments. What you get being under such self imposed financial restrictons. Ismael had one good season at Barnsley and then has 3 failures on his CV since. Long ball merchant, tends to make the same subs after an hour (or at least did) in each game. Wagner is in a similar boat. One good season at Huddersfield and has stunk the place out since. Desperate choices and both massive downgrades on the manager we forced out due to the terrible ownership and running of the club.

Is it even the main game on sky or is it one of the additional ones you can choose from? Shambles. -
The article specifically said that people have rejected us because of the low salary on offer. As it says, might be true, might not. But we do everything else with the pure focus on not spending money.

Critical that we get a manager in for a full week of training. Sadly not happening. -

Fair enough. I wouldnt go as far as excellent but until a month or two ago he had significantly improved and mistakes leading to goals went from constant to occasional, and all keepers make the odd mistake. Sadly in recent weeks he has gone back to the Pears of last season. -
So its a total guess. I have no idea what they were on, just like you. Yet you are using it as a key component in your argument. Considering our position, the importance of the role and the incoming money recently including from Eustace, we shouldnt be doing it on the cheap. That article (which may not be totally true, who knows) suggests that again, we are. As a result if we are doing it on the cheap, if you pay peanuts you get monkeys. Expect someone underwhelming. I would be very happy if we went and pushed the boat out and got Cooper.

We wouldnt have needed it had he not made so many errors across the course of the season. Getting into double figures including the 2 at home to Ipswich and Sheff Wednesday. He certainly did not have a superb season. -

Pears was superb last season? He was dreadful. Made so many mistakes. -
How do you know that all of those managers were on the same wage? Thats one hell of an assumption. Im just responding to an article suggesting that our continued penny pinching has caused issues in attracting a decent manager. Im also not deluded enough to think that money isnt the primary motivation for any manager, its only a job to them. I dont think that all of those 4 will end the summer with extended deals, no. If we are lucky, one or two might. May aswell throw in Dolan too. We havent extended a contract in over a year.
-
You live in cloud cuckoo land if you dont think that salary is the biggest driver for who comes into the club. Its a job, its not as if people are going to be so desperate "to build their own team working with Gestede and Owen" that money becomes less important. You pay less money, you limit yourself to a poorer quality of candidates. Money is the most important variable. Do you genuinely think we will renew all 4 of those contracts by the summer?
-
Good luck getting a straight answer. He will just repeat that its how we operate and maybe say other clubs do and/or its the modern way.
-
Its not about backing your ability. The job of a football manager is very much still a job and if you are offering a low salary then you naturally are ruling out the better options before you start. The probability of us getting promoted this season is low (thats not negativity, all teams from 4th downwards are more than 50% likely to be a Championship club next season) so it then leaves being on a lower than average salary at a club with no solid foundations and its best players out of contract at the end of your first full season.
-
Just a bit of a spoiler. Whoever comes into the job is doing so for the money. Football management is a job. No one is coming purely for the opportunity to get us promoted or to work with Rudy Gestede and Owen. As ever, under cutback obsessed Venkys, we are seemingly trying to employ the most important position on the cheap. If we dont offer a competitive wage we will only attract the desperate because like with any job the most important thing is money. So expect a poor appointment. Why wouldn't I be negative about that? Why would I be anything but negative about the way the club is run? Your approach is to tell people to stop going on about it, bury your head in the sand and now call people negative when they call it out.
-
Also says that Owen being involved "boosts Lowe's chances of staying in charge." So not offering a competitive wage and might even just appoint the coach. What a club. Surprised Klopp isnt interested and willing to work for free. Its not a job being offered, who needs money when theres a promotion chance, surely people queueing round the block to do it for free.
-
Are you taking the piss? Its a job to anyone and again cut backs mean we get someone rubbish.

I am surprised that people seem to think that Gueye wasn't too bad. Usually, his hold up play is good but the ball just wouldn't stick with him, it kept bouncing off him and he kept losing it inviting further pressure. His form in recent weeks of course means that compared to the likes of Hedges, who is crap week in week out, or Pears who has made a number of errors in the last month or two, he has much more credit in the bank, and he obviously didn't have much support, but I thought he was poor. -
So if no one is confirmed by Tuesday youll be annoyed? Fine.
