Transfer Window - COMPLETE. Where’s Gregg?
roverblue replied to chaddyrovers's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Nyambe was a solid RB with massive limitations in an attacking sense, cannot pass or cross a ball. If we move to a 4-4-2 as others have said it would have reduced the impact of his weak areas. I would have liked him to stay and competed with whoever is coming in to challenge for that spot. Its criminal however that him, Lenihan and Rothwell have all been let go for free. As I was calling for last summer the lot of them should have been sold for whatever small fees we could get, it wouldn't have made a difference to us going up or down. I reckon between the three of them it is at least £10million down the drain compared with if we sold them last summer. Money rovers cannot afford to waste. -
I reluctantly bought mine late on Saturday to beat the deadline. It's not that I don't want to go but at the time seemed a vote of confidence in the shambolic running of the club in terms of pricing, no manager and players leaving. Now that we have a manager in I feel a bit better about the decision and would have really missed not going. I dipped out once before for a few years during the Steve Kean shambles and to be honest nearly didn't come back. The club should do so much more to retain their existing support base but unfortunately don't seem to care. We were told the £100 increase in the Riverside pricing was to allow us to move around the ground during covid. I notice it never went back down so that was a load of bollox. £299 should be price like other clubs around us.

Apparently someone loves us ❤️❤️

Thanks for all your hard work Tony, some fantastic memories in our promotion season and you leave the club in a much better position than when you joined. I won’t miss your bizarre selections, stubborn tactics or depressing interviews. But it’s clear the players and staff relished working under you and nobody doubts your commitment working away from home the last 5 years. It feels like the right time for rovers and Tony to move on. I really fear for what comes next though and who and how long it takes to get someone in. We start next season in 8 weeks and need so much in place before then… -
Transfer Window - COMPLETE. Where’s Gregg?

Let’s hope the outgoing recruitment department have made up a list of players. Looks like we will be scouting the lower leagues for permanents then maybe loans from premier league to fill gaps. need at least two right backs, two centre backs, two centre mids, left winger and a striker in my eyes. maybe promote Carter as one of the centre backs or that Phillips youngster we keep hearing about? -
Not a particularly inspiring list of candidates but I would really like someone with some passion to come in. Misery guts Mowbray barely looks like he can motivate himself to get out of bed in a morning let alone get the team to make amazing comebacks or passionate performances. Some of his post match interviews and constant down playing of the side over the years has been a big negative in his tenure. On that basis it would be a Ainsworth or Keane for me. Someone who actually wants to the here and doesn’t stand for anything less than 100%. Whoever it is needs to bring an identity with them and recruit players to suit it fast. This would be the hard bit for any decent managers as don’t believe they will get any funding.

v Bournemouth (h) - 30/4/22
roverblue replied to Herbie6590's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Just a point on Pickering, the lad pretty much plays that entire left side of the pitch on his own. No player in front to pass or play off and no support when defending. Felt sorry for him the last few home games as he continually has 2-3 players running at or behind him when the opposition attacks. It all comes down to crap tactics and players out of position. Sign a left winger to play in front of him next season and he will look miles better. -
v Bournemouth (h) - 30/4/22

Really disappointing performance after the optimism from Monday night. You can see Bournemouth had quality all over the park but we didn't really ask any questions or manage the game tactically. The big difference for me was how Bournemouth attacked in numbers, when they broke they had 5-6 lads pouring into the box or out wide. In total contrast when Rovers break we have 2-3 breaking and the rest stood on the halfway line hands on hips. Roll on a new manager with some fresh ideas and tactics as I am royally bored with what is served up at Ewood these days. -
Brilliant, did not see that coming last night and got that buzz back today. It just shows the team from pre Xmas was still in there but for whatever reason didnt turn up prior last night. The main thing for me was the pressing intensity had returned which just forced them out of shape and into a lot of errors. The whole setup pre-xmas was based around this so why they stopped doing it is beyond me! A little bit of hope for the playoffs has returned but realistically we have left it 1-2 games too late to turn up.

Is there any realistic chance of some backpedalling on the prices? Seeing Preston do a ticket for under £300 must hit home to the powers that be and make them realise they are vastly overpricing things. If they did a riverside ticket back at £299 like pre-covid id buy it right now regardless of the footballing issues to address over the summer
-
Complete lack of imagination on the pricing and a ridiculous deadline to avoid a £30 'fine'. The price in the Riverside rose by £100 this season and the facilities are worse than ever... Staffing is atrocious - you either miss 15mins of the first or second half in order to actually get served by the one 16yr old manning the kiosk. There hasn't even been any beer available for the last 2 home games only dark fruits cider. This is despite constant price rises for the pies/beer/chips. The toilets are falling to pieces and the hand dryers are some of the worse I have ever used. The entire stand needs a wash and paint with weeds growing out the various cracks in the paving. On the football front there is no chance of me renewing until the manager situation is resolved and some indication of investment over the summer in the squad given the expiring contracts. Not paying £400 to watch some washed up loans and freebies fight relegation would rather just pay as I go in the case.

Lots of grumbling in the riverside about Mowbray today, first time I have heard any all season. It was fairly mild though in terms of formation and selection rather than sacking him etc -

Today summed up the need for a change of management. Another game that needed a raft of changes to make us look remotely competitive after a botched formation and line up for probably the 10th game running. Only player with any credit was Gallagher the rest should be ashamed at the effort put in. I have seen more intensity from sloths on the Green Planet show. -

Feels like a loss tomorrow based on form but you never know after a break to re-group. Lets just hope we start finding some goals from somwhere, maybe Brereton coming back will change our luck/form. Its the hope that kills you 🤪 -
From a squad perspective we are in a much better position now than when he took over. A combination of youth development and good signings have been one of the best parts of the Mowbray era. I don't lay the blame for the upcoming out of contract players at his door, I am sure he wants to keep all of them but the exec/owners won't or can't pay the going rate for them. I think given our commercial income it's a fairly sensible approach in terms of our long term existence. League position I think given the investment in the club he has done ok. The promotion season was one of my favourites as a rovers fan going to new grounds and seeing us win most weeks with some great atmospheres. My biggest gripe with Mowbray is his lack of flexibility on the pitch which has been shown with the disastrous runs each season where we lose 10 in a row or something similar. He is so stubborn to just persist with the same formation, players and style until it just sorts itself out eventually. Its rank bad management and is the main thing that holds rovers back from getting higher up the league or maintaining our position this season. In summary I think he has done a good job 7/10 but I am ready to say our goodbyes and let someone else have a go.

0-0, another toothless performance whilst keeping it tight at the back. -

Total garbage. Feel like a stuck record but been same since Huddersfield at new year. No way we stay in the playoffs as Mowbray won’t mix it up and change the team -
Class performance, dominated from start to finish. For me Dolan set the standard early doors with his work rate and skill and it raised everyones game including the crowds.Shame we cant put the ball in the net as could have been 4-5 with all those 1 vs 1 we managed to carve out. Some really committed performances from players like Zeefuik and Gallagher as well with some power tackles that just sent QPR back into their shells. I don't think they wanted it in the end and just resorted to hurriedly passing it around the back four and arguing amongst themselves. Overall great to see a coherent performance again after a couple of months of lacklustre huff and puff performances. Rothwell and Buckley can bide their time for me as that 11 deserves to start the next game. Hope Nyambe is ok looked a bad one.

v Sheffield Utd (a) - 23/2/22 - Match Preview
roverblue replied to Herbie6590's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Was too miffed to post last night, it was a familiar story since Huddersfield though. We huffed and puffed looking fairly solid at the back, but attack wise we are totally clueless. Nobody in the box Nobody making runs into the box Nobody making the most of corners/freekicks in the box Nobody controlling or holding the ball up in the last third bringing others into play Its just the general lack of attacking play and movement that worries me, at the moment it feels like we could go the whole of the rest of the season without scoring. The whole gameplan is basically to not concede and then hopefully somehow the ball just gets itself into the oppositions goal by a bit of magic. Still a chance to stay in those playoff spots but Mowbray has to change the system or players to get in there. I cant see what Rothwell, Khadra, Gallagher or Buckley have done in the last few matches to keep their places, swap them out for some new ideas. -

Drove down, parked the car then just as I got out my phone beeped with the news. Listened to Waggot on the way home and he was miffed basically said the referee didn’t want to play it -

roverblue replied to rigger's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Great point in the end, good 2nd half performance and probably could have nicked a 1 nil win with a bit more luck. Nyambe looked great as the right sided defender, if we convince him to stay then maybe thats the better position for him long term when Van Hecke goes back or Lenihan leaves. Brereton looked sharper than he has in a while too, hope the injury isn't serious. Follow that up with a win on Saturday and it brings a bit of hope back after recent results! -

I would defo be swapping out Khedra for Dolan to start in the next game, his pressing and dribbling were one of the few positives to come out of last night when he came on. -
I was thinking the same, the Huddersfield game at home for me was the start of the dip. During and since that we have lost our attacking edge or other teams have worked out how to stop us. The saving grace from previous years is our much improved defence so rather than losing 6-7 games in a row we have nicked a few points here and there on the back of it. The manager needs something freshening up in the tactics or personnel to try and get back to a higher level of performance.

v Nottingham Forest (h) - 9/2/22
roverblue replied to dallydally's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
The poor run continues, not sure if it’s due to a drop in our own performances or other teams just working us out. Probably a bit of both! Time for Buckley to have a rest looked really off it last few games. Same with Brereton and Khadra just but nobody to really come in for them. Think we will ultimately slide into mid table which is where the squad belongs. There is still some slim hope if we can string a couple of wins together but needs a massive turnaround in form we haven’t looked like scoring since the Huddersfield game at Xmas.
