  1. I was impressed with every player today. The way we battled in the second half was magnificent. Hedges was a big miss when he went off, we just lost a bit of balance and it was also right about the time they turned it into a full on aerial bombardment. We could have been out of sight if Diaz hadn’t briefly channelled his inner Brereton and put that shot out for a throw in! Not sure any other player on our books could’ve picked out the bottom corner like Wharton did. Delighted for him and hopefully he’s starting to cement his place as a key player. Hyam immense again and can be forgiven for the momentary lapse for their goal, much better from Travis too. On any other day Gallagher would’ve been MOTM, but Kaminski was outstanding. Could’ve been a perfect day if it wasn’t for Mowbray.
  2. This shouldn’t be understated. Every player who speaks about our success in 1995 all say the same thing. It was a great group of lads, with wonderful team spirit and no egos, all playing for each other and the team. From Bobby Mimms to Alan Shearer, they all say it! The only one they seem to agree on not liking was Richard Witschge who by all accounts was a dick and contributed nothing positive.
  3. Absolutely this. Obviously a drop off in form and league position will lead to plenty of Dack related recriminations, but if we have a successful season he’ll barely get a second thought apart from the odd reminiscence.
  4. That “story” is pretty nothingy… rumour, here say and social media nonsense. With our seasons form so far the Dack issue crops up and disappears on a game by game basis. Objectively you can’t really argue with Tomasson’s stance considering our league position. I’m sure he’s fed up and clearly there is something beyond ability ruling him out of the managers thinking. I’ll be a little bit sad if he does go in January, but it seems it’s in the clubs terms so I won’t be furious like I was with the summer exodus. A bad patch and the questions will be asked again and louder though. Oh, and his girlfriend is making the situation worse.
  5. Yes, against Marker and Rovers if I remember correctly. Didn’t appreciate at the time how bad the tackle was. I’m all for tough challenges, and appreciate players will get injured on occasion as a result, but this was assault. Marker had previous too.
  6. I’d go with that but Garrett in for Travis, although I know It won’t happen. Hedges could prove to be an absolute monster of a wingback. I’ve been impressed with his work rate all season, and there seems to be enough defensive ability for the way we are setting up. Really keen to see him play on his natural foot.
  7. His subs seemed pretty desperate and harked back to his throw enough shit and some will stick approach he favoured with us in lockdown. I didn’t know a lot about most of their squad, but they had some tidy looking players, not least Roberts. Some nice one and two touch stuff in the first half, and some really effective dribbling in the second. Not to worry though, Mowbray will coach all that individuality out of them by the time the World Cup break is over. They will all be learning to play like Cory Evans.
  8. Not at all. Nothing petulant, no silly tackles having lost the ball. Just a solid performance, his positioning was excellent, he read the game well and played nice simple passes.
  9. Some real positives tonight. Garrett with a more mature performance than Travis has ever managed in a blue and white shirt, and celebrating that tackle was class. Hyam an absolute rock at the back. Diaz a bit wasteful, but grafted hard… and what a hit! Hedges and Brittain both showed real quality, and I think they’d have both had a field day playing on their natural sides. They both had a tough time defensively in the latter stages though. Big fan of that ball boy too.
  10. Gallagher absolutely must start centrally. This will completely baffle Mowbray who will hopefully have been telling his left back it’s his job to mark him. The silly sequence stops here I reckon. Comfortable three points. As for Mowbray, it’ll be complete indifference from me. It’s not like his name needs reading out like a player, and he’s no reason to parade himself on the pitch, so along with his usual habit of sitting on the bench looking bored he should be pretty easy to ignore.
  11. Only one team has lost more games than us this season, yet we are only a point off the top. The division is wide open, there doesn’t seem to be any real standout sides and the promotion spots are there for the taking. I’m praying things click soon and we can find some consistency, or rather we can gain points more consistently, More of what we saw in the first half today and it could be a good season!
  12. Proper game of two halves that! Gallagher and Kaminski with heroics either side of half time. We looked so much more balanced from the start with a more conventional formation. Shame about the momentary lapse in concentration that let them back in, just needs better communication there to stop that happening, but it’s 2 players who haven’t been playing regularly. Second half we rode our luck but some good individual defensive moments kept us in it. Few questionable decisions/moments, but I’m too relieved with the win to dwell on them.
  13. Finally we look to have ditched the cursed Mowbray formation. If Morton or Wharton ends up being a false 9 though, I’m going to cry.
  14. There were loads of comments like this coming from Waggott and the Broughton all summer. I didn’t realise when they were talking about continuing Mowbray’s work this would extend to stubbornly playing the same stupid system he was obsessed with. We need to exorcise the ghost of Mowbray and that should start with binning this stupid forward line set up.
  15. At the time it was stated it would’ve been logical to have wanted Matt Smith in the side ahead of Brereton. For two years he was absolutely dreadful and even the people who were his biggest advocates at that time were basing their views on hope rather than as a result of anything he was doing on the pitch. Everyone is delighted he turned it round. He will no doubt continue his career at a higher placed club than us, rather than dropping down the pyramid which initially looked likely. However, if we lose him on a free we’ll have spent 7 million on a player with no return, without troubling the playoffs - let alone getting promoted. Regardless of the fairytale, and no matter how many YouTube documentaries get made, that would put him firmly in the bad signings bracket.
  16. How was he Joe? Something came up and I missed the match unfortunately. From the brief bits I’ve seen of Markanday he looks creative but inconsistent. I worry how that would translate against first team championship opposition, but I’d certainly have him ahead of Hirst if we must insist on wide strikers. Not sure he’d get ahead of Dolan or Hedges though, and continued use of Gallagher there is a different discussion.
  17. Obviously I know it won’t happen, but I’m sick to death of a number of our players, so I’d go with this: Kaminski Brittain Hyam Wharton Pickering Dolan Wharton Edun Hedges Dack Brereton Pears, Carter, Garrett, Gallagher, Harlock, Mola, Markanday
  18. Yep. But that’s modern football apparently. Give me “dinosaur tactics” any day!
  19. Some shocking similarities to last season and Tony Mowbray, whether people want to acknowledge them or not. - Ineffective use of a false 9 - Wide strikers who don’t get in the box enough - Players shunted in at right back - Inability to gain points from losing positions - Nonsensical substitutions - Stubbornly sticking with a failing plan - Only one way of playing - Ponderous build up play - Asking players to constantly do things they are naturally bad at
  20. So Hirst actually gets beyond his man, beats him again to kill a bit of time… still nobody can be arsed getting in the box
  21. 5-2-3 is shit. It was shit under Mowbray, and it’s shit under Tomasson. Leaves us light in midfield and nothing in the box.
  22. Why has Brereton switched over to the right? He’s literally the only forward we have who suits this formation, and that’s because he’s effective when he’s cutting in off the left.
  23. 23 minutes and Brereton had only had 6 touches. 5 of them being in our half. Sums the performance up so far.
  24. Perhaps Nyambe saw the writing on the wall regarding game time when he met with JDT. If the manager made it clear he’d regularly use attacking players at right back, and if we were already in for Brittain, it would make sense he’d feel it was time to move on.
