2025 Summer Transfer Thread. 😂

In fairness to Tony Field, although we signed him 'only' from Southport (think the fee was another £20k?), if my memory is correct, he was still in his early 20's, had clocked up 100+ appearances and was a 1 goal in 3 games forward. Wouldn't we snap a club's hand off for something similar now!? -

You can’t really redefine “x player is not up to it” when they’ve played less than an hour in the league. -

Madness to sell McTominay. He should've been their Darren Fletcher. Steady, high-performing, loyal player that the team or squad is built around. A puzzling thing about Utd is they don't seem to have successful youth development. Arsenal have brought on Nwaneri, Lewis-Skelly and now Max Dowman, in past few seasons, but can't think of Man U players, albeit, I don't follow them much at all. Their transfer policy is, needless to say, poor. The most obvious signing in the world, in my opinion, was Kvaratskhelia, before PSG got him. A player like that, with, admittedly, a functioning team, is clearly of an elite level and with his attacking, exciting style, lifts a club.

People keep re packaging criticism as ‘abuse’ and saying players are being abused, when it just isn’t true. The link with that to players being ‘written off’, was people re defining words to suit arguments. -
That podcast perfectly demonstrates how we wasted five seasons under Mowbray, IMO. He had no winning mentality and was happy with his lot. Happy to develop players, spread nice vibes around the place and plod along. If promotion happened, brilliant. If not...no problem. He said himself in that interview, that he "wished he was nastier, a winner". He says he wished he could have woke up one morning angry and decided to ring the owners and tell them "we need more money to do x, y and z and go for promotion". However, to do this would go against his nature and principles. 1) Firstly...how the heck does having a desire to win equate to nastiness? Are all people who want to win 'nasty' or 'bullies'? Remember, the following were also his words just before his exit from the club: "I hope they don't appoint a bully next, who just wants to win all the time" Broughton also espoused similar when he talked about needing to weigh up a 'win at all costs' mentality with mental health of the staff and players. These guys are in the wrong business. This game is all about trying to win, or at least it is supposed to be. This, 'let's all be nice', sounds great over tea and biscuits, but it doesn't cut it in reality. It's one of the reasons why our club has been like this for the last 15 years. It's one of the reasons why England haven't won't anything since 1966. Nice guys and mediocrity being embraced like a comfort blanket. 2) Secondly...why would he need to wake up 'angry' one morning in order to ask the owners what was required regards extra funding? What's anger got to do with this? It's quite simple...and this isn't me being a smart arse online. If I'm sat in Mowbray or Pasha's position and I genuinely want promotion, it takes one phone call to Balaji to politely state the case to him for extra funds and to explain the promotion picture. He's either saying yes or no to the request. End of. What is disrespectful or against principles or against Indian culture about such a question? You're trying to get them a £150m jackpot whilst returning the club to where it belongs. Big Sam was also clearly of the same view as me, as he basically couldn't believe Mowbray didn't ask out of principle. He says to Mowbray "you'd only be asking the question, not demanding...if you don't ask, you don't get". To which Mowbray mumbles "maybe it was a failing on my part". It seems to me as though a few freeze when they see and experience the pomp and grandeur in Pune towers. I think it then becomes a case of gratefulness for the invite, for the hospitality and for everything they do for Rovers. We couldn't possibly ask you for more. It would be disrespectful. This same attitude has been displayed by Pasha, Waggott and Mowbray. Bollocks. They own the club. They relegated the club from the Premier League and it is their duty to put this right. We're still waiting. The idea that asking them for extra funds would be disrespectful, is bloody ludicrous. What a joke. Mowbray played a big part in holding us back in this Division. A nice guy, probably. Good for Rovers? No. I don't compare him with Kean and Coyle. That's no barometer. Let's compare him with Souey and Hughes to get a true picture. He's nowhere near.

It was a flippant comment meant as a joke, in support of Leonard. No more, no less. That's why I said you didn't understand the conversation. It won't be the last comment to snowball out of all recognition but there you go. We haven't even got to the end of the window yet. -

I would not be surprised if Leonard was nearly agreed then Pasha tried to squeeze Posh for extra by leaking it to the press via Elliot, and then MacAnthony just said screw you and backed out. -

Of course I realised Leonard was part of the conversation. Rev says it’s unfair that a poster is saying about Leonard being “Clearly not being able to cope with the Championship” as though the posters have witnessed that as fact whilst he has been a Rovers player. Revs argument is you can’t say he clearly isn’t as he hasn’t started that many games. I’ve not really seen anyone saying that about the new signings as they haven’t seen them (clearly not good enough). Just opinions on whether they will be a success based on their track records/ career paths at other clubs. There’s a difference. FWIW I’m not too fussed about offloading him if a replacement is incoming, and in ever thought we’d get a mill for him. -

Can't say I agree with writing Harry Leonard off cos he was 'bullied' when he arrived on the scene - he was 19 ffs! I'd like to see him stay and given a chance, but it appears off field issues (not fitness) are going to put an end to that. The deal reportedly agreed this morning seemed a good one all round - hopefully it can be salvaged and with time for the club to bring in someone they will play. No point in him playing U21 football all season. -

I say the same for any good player that considers moving to the SPL. There's like 2 games a year and a cup final worth playing - otherwise you're on easy street. Like a move to Rangers or Celtic it's purely money / status based. Can't really blame them in a short career. -

Park up on the Fernhurst / Oakdale estate - keep off the double yellows and don't cause any obstructions and there's lots of free parking on a nice, safe estate. Half a mile walk to the stadium and easy access to the M65 afterwards.
