By the same token, with the right formation I don't see why Tronstad, Cantwell, Baradji wouldn't be a solid midfield if they put the effort in. Granted this stupid 3-5-2 is getting absolutely rinsed down the wings at the moment.

We have poor players, we know that. But there's no excuse for being completely disorganised and a lack of fighting spirit. That is on the manager. And barely won a game at home. Manager has to go. He won't as the manager here is not judged on winning or losing.

Are you suggesting prioritising attacking midfielders based on their ability to defend (don't ask why they need to defend!) and defenders on their ability to play the ball is a bad data driven approach?

You need centre halves who don’t put the ball in their own net in that position, and don’t watch the man and let him have a free header when the ball is coming the other way. It’s basic defending. If we have two Dom Hyams either side of a Danny Batth we don’t concede either of those goals. Might not be able to play a cultured ball up the left wing from the back though. 🙄
