'Big Mac' a colossus and maybe the best £20k Rovers have ever spent. Hard as nails and Fergie revealed in his autobiography Mac threatened to kill him during one game and he was loitering with intent outside the dressing room post match waiting for Fergie! As you say, so influential in dragging Rovers back from the precipice and I recall he weighed in with his fair share of goals for a ch - think he got into double figures with Rovers. Sadly, he succumbed to Alzheimer's and Parkinson's passing away last year in his 80's.

I never get the ire directed at him. Flopped here, true but did good elsewhere. It happens a lot - both ways. Ie we get someone who we think is uselesss, they go on somewhere and do well. And vice versa. All about timing, luck, surrounding players and all sorts of other factors. One that sticks in my mind is Franny Jeffers -not necessarily his time here but he looked cracking at Everton and then went to Arsenal? and flopped. Stars wax and wane. And also, your shelf life can be short. A striker can be the dogs for a bit and then there is another one of the rank. edit I guess it was the price tag for Davies and he didn't do much (but not entirely his fault).

We were destined for relegation until he brought 'Big Mac' in from Newcastle. That guy literally dragged us up from the floor and restored some pride back into the old club. 'Big Mac's' importance in the history of this club can never be overstated.

Gudjonson and Smit both seem to be guys who have one good season in 23/24 and then were a bit rubbish in 24/25, neither is particularly inspiring if we want a starter to challenge Ohashi.

Just listened to the podcast. Came across well although he is a proper footballing weirdo. Also seems to be the kind of person who thinks everyone is nice. Said that he never demanded from any owners as its not in his make up and admitted that his "principles" probably are a reason why his limit was being a Championship manager. Wasnt one to stamp his feet. When he spoke to the owners about budgets he agreed that he wouldnt go back and pester them for more. Principled to his own disadvantage clearly at times. The way its escalated to this intentional prevention of getting promoted is still absolutely bonkers and unfair. Also just said that Wharton trained with them when they were light of bodies. Didnt take credit for him as has been suggested. Another thing that is often thrown at him is him mentioning being far away from home which is again unfairly made out to seem like he didnt want to be here. He seems to have guilt around not being at home more with his kids across his career. Yet he is so fixated with football that as soon as the season starts, including now, he becomes desperate to get back in. He doesnt say it like its a chore, he speaks like he cant stay away from football. He would blabber on about football all day if someone listened.
