He has been honest and told it like it was,, that he wasn't rocking a perfectly comfortable boat floating steadily after he plugged many leaks. So he's basically confirmed he was under no pressure nor expectation from above to do anything else therefore he was doing his job to the best of his ability. Just the same as he had anywhere else and would've done had he stayed at Sunderland or Brum. I doubt very much they'd be in the Prem if he stayed there and at the same time Brum would never have gone to league 1 briefly. He is the ultimate steady Eddie and that comes with both pros and cons. Some Rovers fans though still can't handle the fact he was happy going nowhere and saw no harm in it for a club like us, even when he goes on a podcast confirming it.

This is why I'll never get carried away under this lot. Even if Ismael pulls off a minor miracle with our new cohort and we're in and around the top six come the new year, it means nothing. We will never get promoted under Venky's - they and Pasha will see to that. Just as they have done on multiple occasions already.

To be fair all those you have named bar Lenihan went on to play in the top flight, something they wouldn't have done if they hung around here for any longer. Think it's a bit of a myth that nobody ever achieves anything when leaving here, playing in the top flight is more than this sorry effort of a club will ever do.

We've been down this delusional track before. Remember when Mowbray was here? People convincing themselves we were building sustainably, following a plan, working normally. Then we had the Broughton / JDT experiment and that was another occasion of us acting normally and putting in place a structure that would take us somewhere and last. They made sure that lasted all of 12 months before they smashed it to smithereens. We completely changed track under Eustace to a traditional model of bringing in short term relatively cheap options and relying on our established players, we made sure that was abandoned after 8 months by appointing Gestede over the top of him and refusing to extend any contracts. Now we are on to experiment 4 in the space of 4 years. Might work, probably won't because even if it goes well the ownership/regime will either introduce further budget cuts or remove those overseeing it and go down a different path again in the near future. It isn't normal, it isn't healthy, it isn't sustainable. The only thing it is doing is (in theory) cutting losses every year whilst the club is being hollowed out from within with good people being forced out and replaced with nonentities who don't understand the club. On the topic of cost cuts despite all the evidence pointing that way I still wouldn't be surprised to see losses exceed £15 million again, that's the one constant here under Venkys.

If there's one thing that should be obvious by now, it's that even when the club appears to be running "sensibly", the owners will find away to sabotage everything in due course. It's as inevitable as our annual post-Christmas collapse.

Essentially he was/is in it for the players & staff (people that he knows personally) rather than the club & fans (which almost seem like "abstract ideas" to him) That doesn't make him a horrible person, I just think he has the wrong view of which of those is more important if you are employed as a football manager/head coach

That stuff happens in every walk of life and in every walk of life people move on for other jobs - as Brittain et al have done. Well, I don't know about bitter but footballers and greed go together like cheese and pickle. I don't know if we'll ever get the full Trav story BUT if he did refuse to train and play then that was bang out of order. He was under contract and being paid sums most of us can only dream of. He might have been pissed a new contract offer either wasn't forthcoming or wasn't very good but it works both ways. Like loads of other footballers he can then choose to run his contact down and leave on a free. All the power is with the players these days as far as I'm concerned.

I've said it previously, but I certainly wouldn't be commenting on it publicly, nor would I encourage any friend or colleague to do so. I've been in companies with toxic cultures, with CEOs with God complexes, and been there during mass layoffs and when people have been forced out. It's not pleasant, but my advice has always been the same - keep your head down, keep your mouth shut, negotiate your best exit, and make yourself look professional throughout. If I were now considering a candidate and saw that they were publicly criticising a former employer? It would be a non-starter for me. I don't care if they were right; I'd want nothing to do with them. If anything, football isn't enough of a business because you'd be making yourself unhirable in most industries with this type of behaviour.
