Catastrophically bad defeat. Charlton weren't good but we were terrible. Rovers were a bunch of cast offs playing like cast offs today. Management of the team looked just as woeful. -

Does anybody know if the players travelled south to London on the day of the game? They played like they did. Just asking because there was speculation before the team news that Cantwells wife was in labour and therefore was omitted from the team. Then shortly afterwards, another poster said he'd travelled with the rest of the team. Just wondered if that was on Friday or early Saturday. -

I haven't seen Southampton, Bristol City or Middlesbrough play yet but I'm convinced that this seasons championship quality is very poor. Charlton were better than our shite but still poor and those that think Birmingham are the second coming should think again. Bang average league this year but we will still do well to stay up. Im not going to rip into some players yet but I'm not convinced that both oashi and morishita should be starting together. Oashi and Gueye for me. Tavares should stick to opening bat and bore the pants off us and Kargbo..... Well... He's an imposter of a footballer. Laughable. -

My worry with the clubs approach of unearthing diamonds in the rough from Europe is that it is dependent on you having better knowledge than the other teams you are competing against. Either in terms of getting to a deal first or seeing potential that others do not. I just do not think we have the back room and management staff to create that advantage. Looking at players like Kargbo and Tavares as huge swings and misses at the moment. -

Pasha and Rudy will probably get sacked when we drop a league but I'm convinced Venkys will just run the club into the ground till there's nothing left. - Yesterday

No doubt who the real villains are but VI didn't need to play those players today. Didn't need to replace Ribeiro who has been decent so far. Didn't need to move Hickman, who up to that point wasn't doing too badly in the middle and was good against Ipswich. The place that needed a shake up was up front if anything as we've been pretty woeful in the final third. Today his subs and shape changes turned a mediocre performance into a very poor one. -

Only 23 but so far his career has been underwhelming. Agents must see Rovers as manna from heaven. 2021 Leicester City 2 (0) 2021–2024 Porto B 38 (0) 2023 → Colorado Rapids (loan) 5 (0) 2024–2025 Moreirense 29 (1) Tavares is a product of the Leicester City academy, which he joined in 2010 at the age of 9 from local grassroots club Carib SSFC and signed his first professional contract in 2019.[5] He made his debut in the UEFA Europa League as an 80th-minute substitute during a 2–0 defeat against Slavia Prague on 25 February 2021.[6] The following week, on 3 March 2021, he made his first Premier League appearance as a 77th-minute substitute during a 1–1 draw against Burnley.[7] Tavares made his first Premier League start against Brighton on 6 March 2021. In that match, he produced an on-target volley from the edge of the box, only to see it saved by opposing goalkeeper Robert Sánchez.[8] In 2021 Tavares signed for Porto B where he made sporadic appearances. In 2023 he joined Major League Soccer side Colorado Rapids on loan until the end of June 2024.[9] In the summer of 2024 Tavares moved to Portuguese top flight side Moriense for an undisclosed fee. He made his debut on 11 August 2024 against Farense, receiving two yellow cards and therefore being sent off in the second half. He scored his first goal against Estrela Amadora in a 1–1 draw after coming off the bench, scoring in the 78th minute.[citation needed] On 20 June 2025, Tavares joined EFL Championship side Blackburn Rovers on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee.[10] -
So to celebrate our 150th year… we’ve cut ties with our local paper. Didn’t have that on my bingo card tbh.

See Arbitro's post above for an accurate summary. Just got back and Rovers today were abysmal - maybe the first 15-20 minutes were acceptable. Make no mistake Rovers are in serious trouble if this form continues. The manager worries me as he does not seem to be able to motivate players to play at Championship level! And some supporters meekly clapped the team at the end when they deserved no applause at all! Hopefully we can start to win at home on Tuesday! -

There is a saying in football that goes 'they wanted it more than us'. It's a saying I have never really agreed with until today. We were second best in every position, hardly won any first or second balls, came second best in most challenges and very rarely got first contact on the ball from set pieces. I honestly hadn't a clue how we were set up tactically today. We were so narrow at times we left wide open spaces for Charlton to exploit. Miroshito went past Bell with ease early on. Great I thought, that is the route to a win today. How wrong I was because after that he spent more time in the middle offering no threat. The half time substitution baffled me. Putting Gardner-Hickman to full back when we had McLoughlin on the bench and Miller who is primarily a right back staying at centre half. I just don't but this two left footed centre halves tosh. Gardner-Hickman was like a fish out of water as he struggled pitifully. Car too often Toth and the centre halves played straight balls into midfield when players were facing their own goal and under pressure. It was rinse and repeat and Charlton couldn't believe their luck as we tried it as nauseam. I shake my head sometimes when watching Rovers. Twice in the first half we had opportunities to get Miller on long throws and get the ball in the box (it just wasn't happening from open play) and as he was running over and asking the bench Pickering took short throws and almost immediately we lost possession. I have no doubt in my mind that today was the kind of performance that if it happens often will get you relegated. We were physically and mentally weak and awful tactically. Today capped off an awful week to be a Rovers fan. The Ipswich fiasco followed by the LT nonsense and a horrible, wretched performance today from the team, the manager and his staff. Sometimes I wonder what it would be like to support a normal club again. -

Kargbo maybe but he didnt need to bring Tavares on. He had Montgomery or pulling Cantwell deeper into midfield. Or could have just left TGH there, moved Miller to RB and brought on McCloughlin. The environment at the club makes things difficult but Ismael really shot us in the foot today. Ive been pretty happy with how Ismael has set us up most games, we seem really well drilled. But if we go behind and need a way to find a goal he seems to have few ideas - which is consistent with how we have been for years. -

Indeed. Some clubs are fundamentally broken. Look at Man Utd. They've had a string of established managers, thrown buckets of cash at it, and they're still a laughing stock. There is a malaise from the top down that permeates the club and leaves little room for success. Same is true of Rovers to some extent. Although we've spent precious little money, every time we stumble on a winning formula, the club manages to get in its own way. We're going nowhere but down until the club is cleaned of the current incumbents. -
I forgot to mention this before, but I read the comments on the LT's Rovers site quite often and the usual suspects on there have been carrying on about Jackson for months----"negative, always showing the club in a bad light, keeps bringing up old stories that makes the club look bad etc." They were particularly hard on his coverage of Eustace leaving and on Travis' transfer. I just wrote that off as cranks being cranks but you have to think now maybe it was more than that.

The issue is Tavares and Kargbo are what has been provided through the "significant investment" of the owners. Who is to blame if owners aren't funding serious wages, transfers and board members? The ambition comes from them. We're in the middle of another spectacular downfall and it's on our absent owners every time. -

Yeah - I think the Tavares on to CM, TGH to RB may be the worst sub (as in negatively impacting a game) ive seen as a Rovers fan. It led to total capitulation across the putch.
