roversmum Posted September 2, 2007 Posted September 2, 2007 Well I hope some Englishman does..................... *waves at "Dave" *
tchocky Posted September 2, 2007 Posted September 2, 2007 i dont see the point in calling up players like heskey and campbell just for one game, when players like steven taylor and lita/derbyshire have a whole future ahead of them.. The point is probably to get 3 points.
Pugg Posted September 2, 2007 Posted September 2, 2007 No, of course it isn't Eddie! Well you could end up with the most talented 11 players...all of which are goalkeepers
Alan75 Posted September 2, 2007 Posted September 2, 2007 Well you could end up with the most talented 11 players...all of which are goalkeepers Is the one talented English keeper.
Pugg Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 Is the one talented English keeper. No hehe...but you get my point
Flopsy Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 No, of course it isn't Eddie! Eddie's Right. We've been trying to stick Lampard and Gerrard together for years and its not worked. You need the best team out on the pitch
T4E Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 Good on him. I've heard Wigan fans say he's been playing very well. With not many English strikers able to claim that currently, why shouldn't he be in the squad?
Flopsy Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 because he's not premiership class, let alone International. Darius Vassel has scored more international goals than Heskey for a considerably less number of caps
Jordan Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 because he's not premiership class, let alone International. Darius Vassel has scored more international goals than Heskey for a considerably less number of caps Says it all really.
Yorick Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 because he's not premiership class, let alone International. When has that ever prevented poor players turning out for England? Smith, Dyer, Jenas, Phil Neville to quickly name four recent examples. If we were to sign any I would rather it be Heskey than any of those four. The only amazing fact about Heskey being selected is that he is playing his football at Wigan. Normally sub international standard players only get picked when they are at a big club.
Eddie Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 Heskey brings more to the game than goals. I think he is the type of forward that enables someone like Owen to play to his best. I also think that he has improved his game since he last played for England. He scored a really decent number of goals last season for a struggling side. If Heskey had never been capped before I think we would all believe that he deserved it based on the past two seasons of play, so for me that means he deserves it regardless of what he has done before.
mike at picture Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 Bloody hell! Where's Nicko? I hate England
Yorick Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 Stats More stats http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/shared/bsp/hi...smith_42493.stm Hardly inspiring stuff is it? Perhaps RSC might fancy becoming an English citizen?
Eddie Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 Right, because his stats at club level are amazing.
LeftWinger Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 Remember the days when we had Shearer, Owen, Sheringham, Ferdinand, Sutton, Wright, Cole, Fowler.... an endless list of quality upfront. Now once you get beyond Rooney and Owen, you'd struggle to find one striker of the quality of the ones mentioned above. Rooney's got 12 goals in 38 caps - but you wouldn't dream of dropping him. Heskey may not be the best striker in the world (though perhaps he should be with his speed and power), but I'd probably rather him than some of the others available. Good to see McLaren picking someone from an unfashionable Northern Club too - even if he only did it cause Micky Owen said so.
Dr Gonzo Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 Given the quality of midfielders England have at the moment, they shouldn't really need amazing strikers to proceed, in fact I think that in the recent past England has relied too heavily on Rooney and Owen to make up for mediocre play. Sort out the midfield by playing the best unit - NOT the 4 best players - and England will be fine. Saying that - screw England (and I am English). England fan are the worst neatherthals who know nothing about football usually.
nicko Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 Bloody hell! Where's Nicko? I hate England Scratching for stories... A lot of people at the ressies last night I am told. Young Taylor did well and may have impressed a few. I would expect him to go out on loan soon, Olsson seems to have pushed in front of him. Judge was also being checked out by a couple, but was quieter. Among the clubs there - Tranmere, Bradford City, Carlisle and surprisingly Derby County. Rams probably planning ahead for next season in the Championship.

Just as things are hotting up and getting interesting along come the internationals. Like your parents coming home early

RevidgeBlue Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 Scratching for stories... Sounds like Danny boy's scratching about for money as well..................
nicko Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 Any news on the takeover ? I wish. If there has been anything developping over the past two days nobody is telling me. However with the time that these things take nobody should be surprised.
Ronin Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 Right, because his stats at club level are amazing. May as well play Dave up front. After all, he has scored a hattrick against Man U (not many players do), and does score quite a bit.
