Right Nicko let's get who are the favourites for the England job, reality wise.

Shearer making his election speech right now.

Can you think of another England hero?

Double act with Venables?

oh for ###### sake, VENABLES?!?!?! HES AS MUCH TO BLAME FOR THIS (Please don't use that word again) UP AS MCCLAREN

Shearer with a good Coach, might work, but really I think we need someone who knows how to play good football and use the best players for the best team, not the best players for the team.

And I dont think there is anyone English, capable to do this.

Fortunately I feel that we shall never have the little englander ###### ever ever ever again

I know it was mentioned at the weekend other examples are Van Basten and Klinnsmen who coached at international level without any management experience.

Worked for Dalglish at Liverpool as he had Paisley advising him on the other hand just look at Steve Staunton didn't work for the Rep of Ireland.

Shearer would need an experienced partner. He loves Venables.

I'm not saying they SHOULD be in charge, but I think they will.

McClaren is a phony, always was, always will be. How you can put Carson in when James is the best keeper in the country by a mile is beyond me.

Backed Croatia at 7-1 to lead at half-time after two minutes. The defence was just wide open and full of people out of position.

Richards - doesn't play right back any more. Lescott - been at left back mainly. Bridge - unfit.

When did Barry play behind a midfield four?

It's a coaching boffin lost in a world in his own.

What do you expect when you think about it?

Hear Hear. A coach lost in a managers world.

If your going to drop robbo do it against lesser teams and take the fall out, rather than playing a youngster in the big match.

Why is Venables seen as a good coach? He was pretty rubbish everywhere he's been since 1996, and only played well against Scotland, Holland and Germany

Has it got something to do with him not resigning, so wanting the good old 'loyalty bonus'?

Also saw something about Gold telling him it would be 'in his best interests' to leave. A golden handshake, and Birmingham get a bit of cash before he left anyway.

WIGAN...Bruce owes Birmingham City around £250,000 in an image rights deal. He was paid this moneyin advance and they want it back. He says he won't. So we have an argument. If he doesn't pay it back then Birmingham will sue him for the cash. Ouch. It's serious but it has to be settled. Those with memories will remember that Birmingham did this to your own dear Robbie Savage when he left. Wigan are unhappy, partly because Bruce did not alert them about this news until very late. But they will still make him boss...eventually. It's a joke.

BIRMINGHAM...David Gold is making a bid for power. He will try to buy out Carson Yeung, who does not have the cash to buy complete control. If Gold gets it he will try to talk Eric Black into staying. The approaches for other managers just now are all coming from David Sullivan and his agent pal. So Gold and Sullivan are now officiallhy split. That is why I say DON'T back any managers for the job because nobody knows who will make the decision yet. And that is why you should not back or lay Black because he could yet get the job down the line. It is a total mess.

Relevance to Rovers? Well, both of these clubs are in disarray.

Decided to put some money on Shearer at 16/1...seems he was 100/1 before the Israel and Russia game.

I can't see O'Neill or Mourinho taking the job, both are currently top of betting. O'Neill has never been the sort to walk away from a half-finished job, and he seems to be building a good side at Villa. Mourinho is far too young for international management yet, and regardless I doubt he'd manage us before Portugal. He'll be the first name linked to the top club jobs in Europe when vacancies appear.

Now that... is the nicko I know and love not this dingle loving imposter. Still don't know why the FA appointed him, most of the country knew better at the time including some of us not in the country. I knew and said as much that we would not make it. Never liked Sven either but he did get us to the big Dances did'nt he.

I tell you what, Micah Richards honeymoon period is over. He was crap tonight and i thought he really showed his age and immaturity at times, i.e when he nearly kicked the Croat in the back near the end.

But all in all you only get out of it what your put into it.

Agreed but a decent Manager would have sorted that out. It isn't as though Richards doesn't have his moments like that at Citeh so McClown should have had his team organised so one of them was sorting that out with Richards.

We know that quite a few of our players have idiocies/weaknesses at Rovers but, MGP apart, Sparky and co seem to be very good at getting them sorted- even a moody (in a nice way generally) sensitive child like Benni got transformed.

McClown just sent out a team tonight perfectly set-up to fail as nicko has pointed out in his analysis.

And I'd take Capello no hesitation whatsoever. Stick Shearer in the set up somewhere but not as number 2. Let Capello have his own team.

Thanks for all the nuggets, Nicko. I've read everyone of these 272 pages--this thread long ago has taken on a life of its' own.

I'd like to ask you a quick one: The was a note in todays' Guardian regarding the re-appearance of Sir Fat Fredy Shepard.

Bolton, Leeds and Derby are all named as possible spots for this fat clown. Are Rovers ' safe from his fat little hands?

thanks.

It's a bit bizarre for me to say who should be the next England boss...but.

Don't go down the foreign line. Even Capello would be a mistake.

I gave up on Scotland when we brought in Vogts. Look at the transformation under Walter Smith and Alex McLeish, two averge bosses really but true Scots.

If you are going to fail at least fail with your own people. If you come up short do it with your own people.

Alan Shearer is a born leader. He will have respect and also has knowledge. Stick an experienced man with him and it will work.

You have to represent your country - not just take a cushy job.

I was proud of Scotland last Satirday because we showed passion and desire. I was sick we lost. I haven;t felt like that for years. Take defeat and learn from it.

But employ one of your own.
