Ricky Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 For now yes. I'm fairly sure that if Benni and Cruz keeping playing that Benni will be the top scorer come the end of the season, probably with a bit of distance between the two. I base it on the fact that Benni is a goalscorer and Cruz isn't . Cruz may have the "better" season, could be the our player of the year, but I still think Benni will score more. What Benni showed last year is that he can score goals regularly and against anyone, he won't have lost that. Over the course of the season he'll continue to chip in with goals, I don't think Cruz will do the same. As I said, I like them both and I think they are both great players, Cruz will end up with many more assists, but I think Benni will end up with more goals. This is only my opinion though, time will tell whether I'm right or wrong. How to make yourself look completely clueless.... step 1
modes98 Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 How to make yourself look completely clueless.... step 1 A tad unfair Ricky. Cruz hasn't got the history of scoring plenty of goals in a season, Benni has. it's not to say that he won't get them this season but the type of player that Cruz is means he should set up more than he scores, unless you have 2 wingers putting in brilliant balls for him to head. The thing i've found most impressive with Cruz is his ability to strike the ball for a tall player he isn't half good at shooting. Long may it continue.
Ricky Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 But Modes, Benni has had seasons where he has hardly scored, look at his stats for his last season in Porto, where coincidently he had a strop on as he didnt get the move he wanted.,....... sound familiar!!! If he's Eddie's 'more natural goal scorer' how the hell did he manage to miss from 2 yards out last night, to be fair he should have been flagged offside but he wasnt. How did he also miss the great chance he had later on in the game. I'm seeing more from Roque to convince me that he IS the more natural striker of the two of them.

Wonder what RSC's like from the penalty spot?

Roque struggled badly for goals in every season with Munich not managing to pass 10 in a season. However that may relate to their style of play not suiting him? Santa has hit form with perfect timing and our game suits him perfectly at the moment, just hope we can keep it up. Benni has a better record but in probably a lesser league. He only really struggled, as you say, in his final season where he really wanted to move to the premiership. He hasn't done well so far this season but it's not just him that has struggled. When they all start firing we will be in for soem fun. In previous seasons I would assume that Roque would be over double Benni's assists every season but there are no stats on wikipedia. However for this season Santa is miles ahead with 5 assists to 0.

philipl Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 Jason Roberts has appeared in 37 games since he signed and scored 7 (including Intertotos). I don't have an assist number. Benni's career Rovers record is 65 appearances, 32 goals and 2 assists. It is statistically self-evident that Roberts should be picked ahead of McCarthy....
1864roverite Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 But we all know that stats can be manipulated to read what we want ! for me McCarthy is not pulling his weight and is playing as an individual, Roberts has to be given a chance even if he does want to leave.

Agreed. The goals and assists count also doesnt effect the work that Roberts does, coming back and helping out in defence, helping out in midfield and of course, supplying those assists with his strength. Benni doesnt get around the pitch as much. He very rarely if ever helps out in defence. Is pretty average helping out around midfield and his only real brilliance can be his play upfront, but i believe he gets caught offside and looses the ball too much (this season), and this can be costly. The simple fact is he is also not converting goals this season... Roberts and Derbs should be given short runs alongside Cruz to see if they can do any better...
broadsword Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 But we all know that stats can be manipulated to read what we want ! I agree in so much as Eddie was saying that Roque was not a natural goalscorer. Leaving aside the fact that this phrase is bobbins (anyone seen a unnatural goalscorer apart from Micky Quinn?) Looking at his career stats you'd say he couldn't score goals. Come away from the panini sticker album and actually look at what he does on the pitch and it's obvious (from what little I've seen on telly) that this man is a class above.
EwoodGlory Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 Had a quick read of the Mirror this morning, and none of the articles have Nicko's name on them. Hope he's just on holiday or something and not ill. I refuse to believe he could have joined another forum

I refuse to believe he could have joined another forum He's prolly jumped on the Premiership bandwagon over at t'dingles, he's over there singing Owen Coyles Clarrot and blue army.
thenodrog Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 (anyone seen a unnatural goalscorer apart from Micky Quinn?) Peter Crouch.
Mozzer Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 david albeda and angulo from valencia told they will not be used again by valencia... maybe worth a pinch???
thenodrog Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 He's prolly jumped on the Premiership bandwagon over at t'dingles, he's over there singing Owen Coyles Clarrot and blue army. I wouldn't blame him if he did. I guess bumming up the dingles for Brendan Flood might be a little bit more lucrative now the dollars dropping. Must say he is very good on his chosen topic but I could never quite rest easy with him arriving just as the takeover stuff was announced. Then again I know sweet FA about such things don't I? btw I'll prob feel rotten about doubting him when his flu subsides.
USABlue Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 I wouldn't blame him if he did. And why not?
thenodrog Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 And why not? Cos if that's how he pays some of his bills then fine he goes to the highest bidder. Why should anybody find fault with that?
USABlue Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 I see, I'll remember that, not the way I operate but to each his own. Call me old fashioned. No offence meant either tnd.
broadsword Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 Peter Crouch. Can't argue with that one!
Dunnfc Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 david albeda and angulo from valencia told they will not be used again by valencia... maybe worth a pinch??? DAVID ALBELDA - my favorite non rover, id have him here anyday.
