modes98 Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 Why does someone like Bentley stay when he could easily leave the club and get paid more and play for a bigger team? Because he has respect for the manager and the club and enjoys the atmosphere here. It is his choice, not ours. Its part of the idea of being a team. Bentley has had the experience of being with a top team and knows how difficult it can be. He will wait until he is certain that he will break into the team he moves to and will not be left to waste away in the reserves like so many before him. Whilst at the same time playing well and getting success for us and picking up a nice pay rise in this contract. To his credit he seems to have a mature head on him. Team work is very much the key with certain teams, look what it did for Greece, but if losing 1 player destroys that then somethings wrong.
USABlue Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 Hopefully there clubs won't let them go. Coventry are on the slide big time and a defeat tonight could all but break them. Are Pompey still interested in him? they can have him for £5m. Sod loyalty, football is a business. £5m for Nelsen would be excellent business. Nothing wrong with stating so. Asinine, totally asinine.
LeftWinger Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 Asinine, totally asinine. as·i·nine Pronunciation[as-uh-nahyn]–adjective 1. foolish, unintelligent, or silly; stupid: It is surprising that supposedly intelligent people can make such asinine statements. Just saving anyone the bother I had to go to
Fife Rover Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 The whole point is that sure, some people abuse it but all do not. Why does someone like Bentley stay when he could easily leave the club and get paid more and play for a bigger team? Because he has respect for the manager and the club and enjoys the atmosphere here. It is his choice, not ours. I agree with all that, but would like to point out that MGP has just this week very publicly declared that he too appreciates being a Rovers player, and is very happy at the club, respects the manager and his staff etc. Pity some of our fans cant appreciate his loyalty with a bit in return. If you abuse the players they will walk. How the club treats an individual who suffers an injury has a huge impact on the judgment of the club by the players. I am amazed people can't see that. The single biggest fear any player will have is that a serious injury could end their career. The support and security offered to them by their employer is a huge deal to them. Again spot on.Or should I say "in most cases". Shearer certainly didn't show any gratitude for any of the things Rovers did for him. Or Bellamy either. I am not suggesting we should never sell a player who doesn't want to go, all I am saying is you stick behind them and give them a chance rather than hound them out the door. Its part of the idea of being a team.
joey_big_nose Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 Team work is very much the key with certain teams, look what it did for Greece, but if losing 1 player destroys that then somethings wrong. Its not about losing one player. It's showing that we look after our own, and that we are a quality club to play for. It's all academic anyway as there is no chance Hughes will try to shift Nelsen before giving him every opportunity to make a comeback. He has too much sense.
T4E Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 Asinine, totally asinine. Those of us clinging on to the hope that football is anything more than a money driven business filled with money driven people are indulging in a totally asinine endeavour. I'm just calling a spade a spade.
nicko Posted March 5, 2008 Author Posted March 5, 2008 There's quite a big transfer tale brewing...incoming I should stress before anyone reaches for the pills. I'll name the guy later tonight for fear of tipping off any rival organisations. Although I probably just did. It's about as live as it gets. He's a decent player and will probably sign if he is fit enough. Sorry for the mystery, which some will no doubt find tedious, but you'll appreciate I've got to keep identity as quiet as possible until about 10 tonight.
nicko Posted March 5, 2008 Author Posted March 5, 2008 what position does he play nicko? Midfield, inevitably.
LeChuck Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 Woo, guessing games. Right, lets see...assuming Fortune is too obvious, I'll go for Johan Vogel. Or maybe Almeyda?

Are we talking about someone to come in now or in the summer?
nicko Posted March 5, 2008 Author Posted March 5, 2008 Are we talking about someone to come in now or in the summer? Now. Free agent.
modes98 Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 It's all academic anyway as there is no chance Hughes will try to shift Nelsen before giving him every opportunity to make a comeback. He has too much sense. Of course he will get a chance, i would expect nothing less. Good thing in his favour is that Ooijer is playing so well that there is no need to rush him back. He can recover properly and then be given a run from fresh. More free agent talk, blimey i didn't know there were that many good ones out there. Any free to play for a 5-a-side team that lacks a defence or goal scorer on tues or weds nights in coventry.
sparkspakespoke Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 Senegal captin, recently linled with Newcastle?
philipl Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 Senegal captin, recently linled with Newcastle? That's the one of whom KK said (paraphrasing) I know we are desperate but not that desperate. Someone going to crash the server on here to make sure we get our man?
nicko Posted March 5, 2008 Author Posted March 5, 2008 How very exciting. Domestic or Foreign based? Foreign. Good clubs too.
nicko Posted March 5, 2008 Author Posted March 5, 2008 Senegal captin, recently linled with Newcastle? Lamine Diatta...signing for Newcastle...did Keegan want him? Shambles.
American Rover12 Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 There's quite a big transfer tale brewing...incoming I should stress before anyone reaches for the pills. Ahaha That one caught me. On a more serious note; I'm pretty excited to hear who this may be. Could he be the answer to our push for 4th?
philipl Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 Lamine Diatta...signing for Newcastle...did Keegan want him? Shambles. I think KK's words were along the lines of yes we need new players and are looking everywhere we can for who is available but we have to keep to our standards - when answering why he hadn't signed Diatta. An intriguing one Nicko- no doubt the Treatmentroom.com is being scoured like crazy for recently released (in every sense) foreign midfielders. Fingers crossed Hughes resumes his track record of getting his man.
nicko Posted March 5, 2008 Author Posted March 5, 2008 Ahaha That one caught me. On a more serious note; I'm pretty excited to hear who this may be. Could he be the answer to our push for 4th? Push for 6th will do my Betfair account, thanks. If this guy is fit and interested then it won't just be for this season, but also beyond. I'll leave the fitness question down to the experts. There is NO doubt about his ability.

Apparently the missed opportunity has played on his mind for some time.
nicko Posted March 5, 2008 Author Posted March 5, 2008 Bad news about your old boy Joe Garner at Carlisle. He's got a serious knee injury and needs an op - months out by the sounds of it. I suppose some will say he should be sold in those circumstances...
bob Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 Or is it Mr Beckham??? Push him in-field leave Bentley on the right? are to dream........
