doctorryan Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 Forget the 39th game folks. It's never going to happen. The PL can vote to explore it all they want.

philipl Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 dingles won but now mathematically impossible for them to get into the play-offs. Just a thought on the potential purchasers. A few weeks ago an occasional poster from Australia who is clearly a Rovers supporter revealed himself to be Ken Bates' son and received all sorts of abuse on here anfd hasn't posted since. If you were to produce a list of people who might at some point be potential investors in the Rovers, I would have thought he would be on the list. And he might even eat bacon butties as well. I don't know whom nicko will reveal in the morning but no doubt we will find things to moan about.
John Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 Well, it will be interesting to see who it is (and the consortium behind it). One thing is clear from the Dan Williams saga, if you don't have major finances, you are wasting your time.
Alan75 Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 It doesn't matter what anyone else gets, it's £5m in rovers pockets. So is there going to be sponsorship. Otherwise that money will be eaten up with travel costs, hotels( cant see the little darlings stopping in a b& insurance etc etc
Alan75 Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 Can't see those costs adding up to £5m Alan. True but it still means that there isnt a £5million bonus to the clubs finances.
philipl Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 Alan, wherever the game is, hotels and airlines will be bidding to host it as part of the sponsorship package so the costs to Rovers will be zip (apart from the win bonuses to the players hopefully).
Wing Wizard Windy Miller Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 The only thing more ridiculous than Giggs or Scholes coming to Ewood, is reading that apparently some people wouldn't want them! On todays performance, Scholes still has something to offer. Giggs looked past it!

Philip, I think I'm to much of a traditionalist. I have an ideal that football is a sport. The transformation of the national game into a money generating business, is causing me to lose interest more and more each season.
Hughesy Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 Following today, I stick by the fact that Giggs isnt the same player and I wouldnt sign him if we had the choice. Hughes has said that if Giggs and Scholes become available then he will be the 1st in the queue trying to sign them. They are 33 and 34 – is it a good thing, yes they have quality but could they cut it? Id take Scholes but not giggs.
tony gale's mic Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 Well, on today's performance Cristiano Ronaldo is a deeply average player. But we all know thats not the case.
USABlue Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 On todays performance, Scholes still has something to offer. Giggs looked past it! 100% agree, and not trying to be rude but I think most of us knew that before todays game. Scholes I'd welcome, Giggs? nah not really
Paul Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 Bad times ahead. Just been thinking today - it will take one of the big four to implode now for anyone else to crack the Champions League. I don't see ANY club gambling heavily - maybe £100 million - just for the reward that a Champions League place brings. Sad but true. On cracking the Big Four...only two words are needed to suggest that one of the top clubs can implode - Leeds United. I wouldn't give up because the current elite are so strong, probably stronger than ever before. Bad things happen. I don't follow that arguement at all. Leeds were not one of the top clubs, they tried to become one and failed (off the field). Leeds hardly demonstartes that one of the top four can implode. The most likely event to stimulate such an implosion is the owners walking away. This could happen at Chelsea I suppose but in the case of Liverpool, Utd, Arsenal the owners will nly walk when they have a buyer and the money involved means those buyers are very unlikley to make the mistakes, or similar, made at Leeds.

Leeds United were a top four team and had every reason to think they could stay there - an assembly line of home-grown talent being the major plus. The trouble was they overstretched in other areas and totally unwound, ending up in administration. It CAN happen. It could happen with Liverpool if they have a fall-out that rips the place apart and it keeps them out of the top four next season. All you can do is wait on the sidelines and be prepared to take advantage. If the Big Four don't trip themselves up then no-one else will.
ffan Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 End of season - Hodgson either sacked or Director of football John Collins coming in. Don't put money on it yet though. ps Jason Puncheon has signed for Fulham but that don't matter.

Utter nonsense as usual Pip - that person posted on the United match thread yesterday, along with several other times recently. Apologies if that undermines whatever point you were trying to make Edit: For the record, I'm pretty sure the person in question was joking.
Mozzer Posted April 21, 2008 Posted April 21, 2008 nicko-anything in mokoena to bolton or wigan?? with us being linked with strikers-mcarthy having talks about signing a contract-i thought roberts would be the one to leave, recently in weeks he has started ahead of mcarthy and hasnt let anyone down-does mark hughes see him playing next season for rovers or will he be listening to offers??

I think the Mokoena stuff is just agent talk, trying to get someone interested. I know of no interest from either club - they have other priorities. As for Benni and Roberts, I think it's a case of letting them compete for the jersey just now. There is no great need to sell either, but if anohter striker comes in then one of them would have to go.

RibbleValleyRover Posted April 21, 2008 Posted April 21, 2008 Nicko just wondering if you had heard anything new in terms of Michael Bradley? Are Everton still showing an interest in him?
Fife Rover Posted April 21, 2008 Posted April 21, 2008 End of season - Hodgson either sacked or Director of football John Collins coming in. Don't put money on it yet though. ps Jason Puncheon has signed for Fulham but that don't matter. I think Collins is a very good tactical manager, and an excellent judge of a player's capability. But there is a downside to his management skills; namely man-management. He nearly caused a revolution among the players at Hibs, but hopefully he will have learnt from his mistakes made there and wont repeat them at Fulham (assuming he comes in).
nicko Posted April 21, 2008 Author Posted April 21, 2008 Nicko just wondering if you had heard anything new in terms of Michael Bradley? Are Everton still showing an interest in him? Nothing fresh apart from reports that Carsley may leave - which means they are another midfielder down. Not sure they will allow Carsley to go, but he is a free agent and they are dragging their heels over a new deal for him.
nicko Posted April 21, 2008 Author Posted April 21, 2008 Man City about to break their transfer record on a signing...don't know where the money comes from. Would suggest Sven is safe.
