thenodrog Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 It has looked like a fight with Everton for some time...the thing in your favour is that good old Moyesie takes forever to make his mind up. So if Rovers do believe Bradley is the answer they should strike fast and decisive. I don't see the Zamora story at all, by the way. But I would not dismiss the possibility of striker movement. With both teams having American representation in their keepers maybe it would help if Mr & Mrs Bradley Sen were to meet the pair of them.

nicko Posted May 6, 2008 Author Posted May 6, 2008 With both teams having American representation in their keepers maybe it would help if Mr & Mrs Bradley Sen were to meet the pair of them. Brad Friedel unfortunately left the United States side before Michael Bradley got involved. I don't think he played for his dad, who is national coach either. Tim Howard is definitely pushing Everton - and Bradley senior has been to Goodison for a game... But in the end it comes down to what the best move for the player is - and who goes in hardest and best.
philipl Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 Right...because what we say in public is always how we go on to act. Got me completely stumped on that one Eddie. Just walked to the shops and back and I couldn't think of a single instance under the current management where we have said one thing and done completely the opposite.

Bellamy staying...Neill wouldn't be sold...hmmm. Fact is that things change. He might not NEED to sign a striker, but that doesn't mean that he won't.
Dunnfc Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 Exactley Neeks, We could recieve an offer of something like 4 million for Roberts which would be too good to turn down and then Hughes will have to bring in a replacement. These things happen in football you aint mystic meg with a crystal ball to predict the future.
Blackpool_Rover Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 I don't think it would hurt to look at striker movement. We are taking roque for granted. Imagine if he gets a long term injury next seaosn...not unknown for him...and were stuck with these 3 who could be absolutely fine....or not. Benni im hoping will be back and i have every faith in matty but i wouldnt like roberts to be comfortable in the team with nobody in competition for his place. 2 injuries could see that happen.
Dunnfc Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 Just seen this on wikipedia regarding Michael Bradley.... On May 5, 2008, in a UEFA Champions League qualifying match against AFC Ajax, Bradley was shown his second yellow card in the 39th minute for a tackle on Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, leading to Heerenveen's 3-1 defeat and subsequent drop to the UEFA Cup qualifying rounds. Bradley is currently being linked with English Premier League sides Blackburn Rovers, Everton, Manchester United, Sunderland, and Aston Villa. He also reportedly has interest from Bundesliga clubs Werder Bremen and VfB Stuttgart in addition to Scottish Premier League side Celtic.
RibbleValleyRover Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 I don't see the point in signing another striker unless one of our current one leaves. That of course doesn't mean we shouldn't be looking at some strikers and following their progress.

Unless we can sign someone of his type but better (of which I think of precious few. Poor touch for sure, but the combination of pace and massive strength is hard to come by) then we might as well keep him. He won't score many but he has made a crucial difference to the way we play in that he stretches defences. Selling him without being certain of replacing him with someone who can offer the same qualities would be stupid.
Eddie Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 Got me completely stumped on that one Eddie. Just walked to the shops and back and I couldn't think of a single instance under the current management where we have said one thing and done completely the opposite. Nicko gave two examples. How about every time we talk about the amount of money that we have... We generally say that we are unlikely to sign another player in a window and then more often than not we go on to sign someone... I don't have a problem with it, it makes sense to not tell clubs what you want or how much you plan on spending, but at the same time we should catch onto the fact that it's very unlikely that anything announced in April/May will still hold true in August (and that's thinking that it was ever true in the first place).
RibbleValleyRover Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 Huddlestone has also been linked to Everton recently. Can't see Everton buying both Bradley and Huddlestone.
alexanders Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 Huddlestone has also been linked to Everton recently. Can't see Everton buying both Bradley and Huddlestone. As far as I've understood we are chasing the exact same two.
Iceman Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 does that mean Arteta might leave everton?as they have pienaar in midfield as well..might be either Bradley or Huddlestone.if i had to choose,i would take Huddlestone over Bradley...Crouch would be a good signing, but i see Pompey are after him...he has looked good in terms of his play whenever he has come off the bench.
joey_big_nose Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 As far as I've understood we are chasing the exact same two. If I had to take one I would go for Huddlestone but that maybe just because I think he would be fun to watch at Ewood. I am suprised Everton are putting such emphasis on central midfielders, I would have thought they need wide players much more but Moyes knows what he is doing I suppose. No doubt that Everton are an attractive club to play for at the moment. The one thing we do have in our favour is that we have a relatively small selection of midfielders, unlike the scousers, so could legitimately say to whoever is coming in that they would get a starting berth. If Villa lose Barry they are going to have a wedge to blow on midfielders too....
Eddie Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 Arteta is thought to be unhappy so there is a chance that he might go. Carsley is leaving on a free (I think his contract is up, not 100% sure though). Then after those two and the over-rated Cahill they don't really have many options in central midfield so, like us, I'd imagine it will be their main focus.
Iceman Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 i think Pienaar is a decent player....other than that,i dont see them having that good a midfield if Arteta leaves.
Hughesy Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 I just hope Jason Roberts works on his shooting and ability to beat the keeper on 1-2-1's. Thats the lads only downfall. Also I feel he looks alot better against the weaker teams, against the top 4 he doesnt have that much of a threat to worry them, although he did well against United. Villa look like they may well need some serious re-building just to stand still. Mellberg gone, Carson wont be signed, and now Barry might be off.
alexanders Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 and now Barry might be off. Without Mr. Aston Villa they will be weakened in the midfield and will lose a player with a lot of impact all over the pitch.
Blueboy Downunder Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 when robbo scored the goal against derby the other day...he was 1 v 1 with roy carroll, was he not!!
cn_barlow Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 when robbo scored the goal against derby the other day...he was 1 v 1 with roy carroll, was he not!! He looked like he scuffed that one though! The other one on ones that he hit cleanly were saved....so maybe he should do less work on his shooting and scuff a few more! For what its worth (nothing) i think we should keep him
BiggusLaddus Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 re: Everton. they need ctr mids as Carsley is leaving and Fernandes is not worth Valencia's asking price. At 30/31 I think it is too late for Roberts to start working on his finishing. If he can't do it know after 12/13 yrs playing as a professional forward then I don't think he ever will.
Eddie Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 We should keep him, unless offered big money, but he really doesn't deserve to be starting still.
Hughesy Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 So 1 out of 3 or 4 then eh!! Not a very good ratio there! when robbo scored the goal against derby the other day...he was 1 v 1 with roy carroll, was he not!!
