USABlue Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 It cannot be said the press are goading Hughes to leave Rovers (for once): Guardian - think twice Tlegraph- last ex-Man U player to manage City lasted 33 days. As the Telegraph grudgingly puts it, at least City aren't going bust... this time. Times basically says Hughes won't talk to City before the Chelsea situation is clear. Independent suggest City are rushing to appoint Hughes and Rovers are being tough in the negotiations Thanks for taking the time to do that philip, I'm sure I'm not the only ex pat who appreciates that.

vintageadidas Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 - 7th best club in the league. - We pay our managers very well. - Great Board and Chairman. - Pretty laid back fans. - Some very good players. - Great "set up" - " A proper club " - Possibly money to spend (£10m) We should be looking at some very good candidates. I hope for Billic or Ince.
Bobby G Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Interesting but how quickly would we need him considering that he has his hands full with Croatia for at least 2 weeks if not 3 more then to move to England and see the team and buy players and all that; would it be sufficient time even?
dellinsert Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 OK, so as some of you may recall from the Benni saga a couple of summers ago I have a friend at l'equipe. He insists that some informal contact has been made between Rovers and the Croatian FA (he's currently in Austria). He works for a French paper, he won't fully cover this story at all, but it was still an interesting piece of news (he has no reason to lie to me). Personally don't think Bilic would be interested, but could you look into it for me nicko? Is this for Sky Sports benefit?
USABlue Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 I know there is an agent trying to rev things up to move him on. I had a call from the Paraguay camp when they were in Germany, quite specifically stating that Man U and Arsenal want him and that an agent was trying to get things moving. Kin agents, hate em.
Eddie Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Is this for Sky Sports benefit? Try and get some movement on the odds and then lay on him... No, serious piece of info, just wanted to see if Nicko could check it out (no one should act on this in betting terms yet).
Iceman Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Would be nice to have Gianluca Vialli and Gianfranco Zola here....just a thought...Maybe even Ruud Gullit....he is still a top top guy....

I hope for Billic or Ince. you class Paul Ince as a very good candidate? he's probably the worst from the bunch that are being mentioned. Id rather have Steve Mclaren, Ince has managed MK Dons, yes he got them promoted but he was putting his wits up against Sammy McIlroy & co. Mclaren, sam allardyce have all managed at the top level. Yes mark Hughes didnt manage at the top level but it was a risk at that time, that has paid off. Were in a position in the league right now that any small mistake could cost us. Ask Bolton when they appointed Sammy Lee. The league is far too demanding for us to appoint a inexperienced manager from league 2!
dellinsert Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Try and get some movement on the odds and then lay on him... Is there a market yet?
Eddie Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Based on what people have said it appears as if there is. I'm at work so I can't check.
BuckyRover Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Why is it that Roy Keane was described as a top quality manager when he was given the Sunderland job with no previous experience? Why did Mark Hughes walk into the Wales job with no experience or coaching badges? Why did Southgate get given the Middlesbrough job with no qualifications? How did Dennis Wise get to manage Leeds in the Championship? Why does Ince have to start at Swindon, Macclesfield and recently MK Dons? Why do no Premier league boards want to give him a chance? What is wrong with him? His record at the lower level is very, very good. I would rather it was him than Jewell, McClaren or Allardyce. Those would be pathetic, middle-of-the-road, welcome to a relegation battle appointments.
Iceman Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 http://nufcblog.com/2008/06/03/newcastle-n...urn-rovers-job/ urghhh cant stand these barcode supporters, they just make me sick with all the ###### talk, and brainless chit chat...
MCMC1875 Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Something is happening with Big Sam, why would he cut short his holiday, unless he does not like the pies were ever he is Plod?

They aint all that bad Icers: Dondatta13 says Unfortunatley it looks like Rovers will have to put up with Fat Sam. I wish Blackburn Rovers the best of luck in the future, God knows they’ll need it!
LDRover Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Is there a market yet? Always has been, not as many stalls as there used to be and only open three days. You can access it from the spiral at Market Street or off Penny Street. Get down early though there'll be at least 20 in by dinner time.

Ince's appointment wouldn't be without risk but he could hardly have done more than was asked of him in his management career so far. He turned Macclesfield round in near impossible circumstances then led MK Dons to the title in impressive style. He has the playing background to win the respect of today's players and strikes me as the sort of personality who wouldn't take any grief from overpaid prima donnas. One of our best managers ever imo was Howard Kendall who we initially appointed with very little managerial experience. After being incredibly successful with us he went on to win several League titles and European trophies with Everton.
AJW Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Taking away the debacle of an england job , mclaren had a decent record at club level , granted he was workin for arguably the best owner/chairman in the pl when it comes to backing managers, he won boro a cup & got them to final of uefa cup , (incidently soemthin hughes couldn't do)

He also took Millwall to the Cup Final.

RevidgeBlue Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Plod? My, we do have a high opinion of Sam on here don't we!
BuckyRover Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Ince didn't manage Swindon, Dennis Wise did. He also took Millwall to the Cup Final. Sorry. That was where he learnt his coaching qualifications. He was a player coach (under Dennis Wise)

Rover95 Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Nicko, you've gone very quiet??? Whats happening?? Any news I'm not sure how much more of this I can take - I mean, I know there are more important things in life but I just can't seem to think of anything else at the minute.
