Darth Paul Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 In the scenario of us losing our manager and possibly our greatest asset (in non financial terms), a person whom many believe is the difference between us having success or going down, I would like to think that the JW Trust, acting in "the best interests of the club" would realise the short and long term impact of losing Hughes and would dig deep and stump up the kind of package and transfer kitty that would really make him believe there is something worth staying for. If we are ever to make the next step forward it is in this next year as the team is really starting to come together. Another manager may do well for us although it is always a gamble, and a couple of class signings would really push us on now... £3 million a season (when we get it) is worth nowhere near as much to us now as it was 10 years ago, the game has changed and the so should the obligations of the Trust. If ever there was a time to back the Club financially, and keep in touch with our former benefactors wishes it is now. One wrong appointment after Hughes, a bad season and no one will want to buy the club. I know this is Fantasy talk as the Trust seem to only want to do the bare minimum to meet their obligations, but I would ask the question in light of this mornings news, what would Jack be doing right now?
RovertheHill Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 Can't believe that the only year I've renewed my season ticket before the end of the previous season is the season I'm going to end up watching paint dry with either Allardyce or McClaren...
Eddie Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 I'm going to go out on a limb, put on my helmet and stick to the line I've been preaching for the past season...this could be a huge blessing in disguise for us.
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 When Hughes goes, I suspect he'll take his staff with him (Bowen, Neidzwekikekikikeikie) and I know that several players only joined us rather than other clubs because of Hughes so I can see some unhappy players as well.
nicko Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 Can't believe that the only year I've renewed my season ticket before the end of the previous season is the season I'm going to end up watching paint dry with either Allardyce or McClaren... Well, get a manager who plays more attractive football then.
broadsword Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 We'll probably go for whoever's the cheapest and expect him to get us into the top six, with a transfer budget provided in groats ...
LDRover Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 Can't believe that the only year I've renewed my season ticket before the end of the previous season is the season I'm going to end up watching paint dry with either Allardyce or McClaren... McClaren?? Think I'll run a nice bath, plug the radio in and get in with it.
RovertheHill Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 Well, get a manager who plays more attractive football then. Unfortunately I'm not Mr Williams in disguise. Believe me, if it was up to me, I wouldn't choose either of them...
RibbleValleyRover Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 I think he would be mad to go for City, he would last only one season there. Sinatra told Sven he wanted a top ten finish in his first season, Sven achieved that and still got the chop. I'd be devastated if Hughes goes, but would accept that Chelsea are a huge step up from us and would wish Hughes all the best. If he goes to City i would be furious.
ally Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 Whilst it is absolutely gutting that we seem to be losing sparky there will be a large number of candidates applying to be managers. some of whom who will be of a proven pedigree!! Remember we do have quality players like Benni, Santa Cruz, Bentley, Nelson, Friedel e.t.c!! Dont panic guys, im sure that there will be a lot of people on the shortlist IF hughes goes!! Remember the Man City chairman is an idiot, they are United's biggest rivals, there team is arguably the same as or worse than ours! I suspect this may be a move just to get chelsea into gear which i could understand hughest going for!! City feels like Lucas Neil going to west ham all over again!!
1864roverite Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 Thats it then, Rovers lose another manager to a mediocre so called big time club We can now safely say goodbye to Bentley, Cruz and maybe others, and any other potential signing that we had in the "nearly" bagged bracket. The back room staff will now undergo a massive change and along with it the rock solid foundation set in place. We havent had an earthquake in Ewood since the day that Shearer left us, the seond has just arrived and the rumblings will go on for a long long time. I am so disappointed that Hughes sees fit to speak to City, especially after the despicable treatment of SGE by its owner. City have the fans thats all, they are no bigger or better than us nor do they provide a better footballing platform. I can stomach the club letting him go to Chelsea but City ??????????????? Never has my summer been ruined so early. After 37 years I am seriously contemplating a return of my season ticket
gumboots Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 Won't matter how furious we are. It just surprises me that a guy I thought had brains will even think of going to City especially after some of the things he's said about support from the chairman being important etc. As has been said chelsea i wouldn't like but could understand but City for heaven's sake!
EwoodGlory Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 Well, get a manager who plays more attractive football then. I value your opinion Nicko, If and only IF we need a new manager, who would be on your list? I personally would like Shearer or Ince.
vintageadidas Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 As Nicko said.... Can we let him back if he goes for talks and is not impressed with what is on offer? He wants to leave, simple as. He would be at Newcastle had they come in for him. We need to get a new manager in ASAP when he leaves. I am GUTTED!
modes98 Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 with either Allardyce or McClaren... It won't be McClaren as he is off to Belgium. Shame Hughes is going, he is top notch but we were always going to lose him at some point. Things always happen when i go on holiday, last time we lost Bellamy this time Hughes.
Ronin Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 I'm going to go out on a limb, put on my helmet and stick to the line I've been preaching for the past season...this could be a huge blessing in disguise for us. Maybe, but depends on who we get as our next manager! But then Hughes hasn't said he's going to City, they've come to him. But he'll probably end up at Chelsea if he does go anywhere.
RibbleValleyRover Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 It doesn't make sense, Hughes will never manage Man United in the future if he takes over City. If he goes to City Hughes will have seriously gone down in my estimation. And btw just wild speculation and i'm probably way off the mark, but the whole Rovers takeoever, with Chris Ronnie having ties to City and being offered some sort of Directorship role there. Could the whole takeover ruse been a front in order for someone with ties to City to have contact with Hughes?
Fife Rover Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 BBc Rumour section saying Spurs want Bentley and will offer 8m plus Ghaly and Lennon. Any truthin this one Nicko, it's from the People. IF that's true, I'd take it. Two good players that can fill some of our outstanding requirements, plus an extra £8M to add to the transfer kitty for sorting out the remaining problem areas.
rover6 Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 I am so disappointed that Hughes sees fit to speak to City, especially after the despicable treatment of SGE by its owner. Despicable? Sven was given a bunch of blank cheques to sign whoever he wanted. Did he transfer wisely aside from Corluka, Petrov and Elano? Caicedo, Castillo, Bianchi.... And selling Ismael Miller? And what was Elano doing at right back?
broadsword Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 If he turns down City and Big Phil then says "yes" to Chelsea, then he'll have tucked himself right up.
Earlydoors Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 c**k and p1** and ba**s. Clearly he's using it as leverage to get the Chelsea job, oh well, thanks and good bye. Now the future. Allardyce please god no. Mclaren, acceptable but my vote would be Martin Jol - what's he up to these days Nicko ?
