Guest Kamy100 Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 Joaquin has been poor for the last 12 months, obviously a big name with a big reputation but I don't think we are in a position to spend big money on a player who at the moment would represent a risk.

Very risky. Could be very costly mistake
modes98 Posted August 24, 2008 Author Posted August 24, 2008 or it could be a masterstroke, an expensive one though. I was lead to think that his style of play may not suit Valencia and that his previous club are setup alot like ourselves.

Have you seen much of him play last season Kamy? Ok Joaquin did not have a great game.. it is true he had an inconsistent season but the whole of the Valencia side had a poor season.. He also finished last season pretty strong and in the first leg of the supa cup played very well. Check how well the rest of his side are playing.. 11 players v 9 and they let 3 goals in after he was sub'd lol.. Check articles on the spanish squad.. and you will often find quotes like despite current form the suprise ommisions from the squad are Joaquin, Raul and Albidol.. The opinion of some of their fans (I have seen quite a few similar articles): http://www.soccerpulse.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=148967 The opinion of our rivals fans: http://www.caughtoffside.com/2008/07/16/sp...e-than-bentley/ Misc article: http://community.footballpools.com/blog/20...aquin-or-silva/ Ok he he did not have a great season all round.. and I still doubt he would want to come here, but the fact is he aint that bad and he IMO he is worth a punt.. Betis are a club that he shone at because he was the star player they are in relative terms a club similar to ourselves.. he has strength, is hard working, has pace, creativity and dribbling ability and was until recently was regarded as one of the best wingers in the world.. Worth 10-12m.. I reckon he is..
American Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 The very best a Polish footballer could acheive is championship level at best, the Euros showed them up just like the world cup did two years prior. Rovers need to keep well away if we are to maintain our premiership aspirations. Does that mean we shouldn't be signing any English players, either?

The Pole in question missed the Euro's due to injury but currently plays for Dortmund, has pace and skill and would easily adapt to the PL. (oh and he is 22 years old)
Tim Southampton Rover Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 I bet he isn't as fast as Ricky Otto.
Bazzanotsogreat Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 Are you on about Jakub Błaszczykowski? If so he is a class act, very quick with good technique & an excellent work rate. I would imagine he would pe pricey though.
imy9 Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 Yes, someone mentioned Liverpool were trying to purchase him and JAL said all Poles are championship material!

(oh and he is 22 years old) I put forward Jakub Błaszczykowski's name a few days ago. He is pure class and was badly missed by Poland at Euro 2008. He is skillful, quick, has good technique and scores goals. He scored at the weekend, in a 1-1 draw with Bayern Munich. We have a bit of money to spend and it should go on a player of his class. He could be a real star.

Worth 10-12m.. I reckon he is.. I probably watch more Spanish football matches then the Premiership, mainly because I believe that it is the best league in the world and sky's coverage of it is very good. Joaquin has been inconsistent for the last 18 months, now huge amount of this is down to Valencia playing poorly as a team and him being asked to do a slightly different role, however on lots of times last year his attitude seem not to be right. Don't get me wrong he is potentially world class especially if he can rediscover his for however we as club are not in a position to be able to take that sort of risk.
donis1410 Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 I'll tell you a useful Polish player who is actually English as well, I shared a flat wit his sister at Uni. his name.......Lucas Jutkiewicz, he plays for Everton and to be fair he was an impressive youngster at Swindon which got him the move and he has done well in friendlies, I would say watch this space with this guy if everton don't manage to buy another striker.
roverfanuk Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 7 days to go till the end of the transfer window. Is it me, or is it worryingly silent...?
Fife Rover Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 I do admit a little worry that we will end up with Pinto, Andrews, Fowler and Lopez in an attempt to survive until the January transfer window.. bit by bit it does look like we are increasingly just sticking in cheap temporary fixes until we can find the right people to fix the issues properly. Well surely it is better to do that than spend a huge (for us) amount on one or more players that turn out to be completely the wrong choice.
JohnS Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 Fax Machines are in over drive. Interesting piece about Milner in todays Mirror, Nicko? I still believe he would be an ideal replacment for Bentley.
nicko Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 Fax Machines are in over drive. Interesting piece about Milner in todays Mirror, Nicko? I still believe he would be an ideal replacment for Bentley. It's £9 million...and Rovers have known about him all summer and done nothing. I understand one of the right wing targets did rather TOO well yesterday and may not be available any more... And that's as big a clue as you are getting.

As far as I can see there were only 2 Premiership matches played yesterday and SWP did not feature for Chelsea. Are we talking abroad then?

Don't forget Valencia from t'pie eaters, and the Brum v Barnsley match..... Oh and Deco played onthe right!
BRFC1995 Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 hope it ain't ireland- fella seems unstable(certainly looks it)

So Nicko, would you say that we would be happy with this target and is he of the class, you believe is needed at rovers?

BRFC1995 Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 is there even remotely any truth in the heskey to spurs rumour, just had a quick read through a spurs forum. Lets just say that if people on here are unhappy with andrews, then spurs fans are downright suicidal over heskey-Brilliant
