67splitscreen Posted November 21, 2010 Posted November 21, 2010 I feel we can beat anybody at home when we play like that. We've started mixing it up much better over the last few games, evidenced by the increase in goals. We created a lot of chances from open play today and really should have won by more. Absolutely no chance of us going down this year, so really it's a question of how high Sam can take us. If he can have us around this position come January, a good signing or two could even see us better last year's position. I was thinking get past Man Utd without a confidence wrecker and the season could be pretty much safe come the end of January. The bottom half can't keep beating the top half, that's not cricket, surely the big guns will hit form soon, United still not firing, Chelsea stuttering, Arsenal, Liverpool, City, and all Jackal and Hyde stuff. As much as I like the competitiveness, I would just like to see a gap opening up for those bottom three spots.

Backroom Tom Posted November 21, 2010 Backroom Posted November 21, 2010 Well I think we're 9 points above the bottom two we could just do with another team showing some relegation form and we'll be OK. Can't see Wigan staying up easily though.

thenodrog Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Absolutely no chance of us going down this year....... Careful. How can you say that? Just 4 points above a relegation spot in mid November and with a transfer window to come isn't safety at all. Long term injuries to a few key players / loss of the manager etc and we could soon be back in trouble. Hell if we had lost yesterday we'd be 5th from bottom and 1 point in front of a relegation place. Just as an aside I can rem Blackpool once being top of the 2nd Div (Championship) at Christmas and ending up relegated by May!

Bobby G Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Does someone have Sam's full record since he joined us (Premier League only)?

allanncd Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 If West Ham sack Grant (as seems likely sooner rather than later) expect Allardyce to be at the top of the porn merchant's shortlist. Venkys need to persuade him it's worth staying and not just more of the same hand to mouth existence he's been given for the last 2 years.
jim mk2 Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Absolutely no chance of us going down this year, . Dangerous talk. Anyone could go down this season.
BuckyRover Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Dangerous talk. Anyone could go down this season. Not with Sam in charge

West Ham might ask but I'd be amazed if Allardyce went down to the smoke.
philipl Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 I think West Ham is a position Sam is most unlikely take up. Besides, one call to Mr Gartside at Bolton would ensure that the porn boys would never offer it to him either. No way would Sam tolerate their carry on. Incidentally in all this hoofball or not debate, I am amazed nobody has pointed out that both sides are right. Yes it goes long against some opposition but it also got passed around to a remarkable extent against Chelsea. Just look at the previews these days- they are mostly taken up by people saying they don't know what formation, team or tactics Sam will adopt- neither do opposition managers more to the point.
Hughesy Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 ANY existing premier league manager would be MAD to take the West Ham job...they are heading down, they have a poor squad and some unhappy players in the camp. Add to that 2 muppet owners.

DanLad Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 Sam's preferred playing style would fit West ham perfevtly. All one touch stuff. A pretty hefty touch, admittedly...
ABBEY Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 He sounded like he was either knackered hungover or couldn't be arsed. He sounded like he was either knackered hungover or couldn't be arsed.
joey_big_nose Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 Sam's preferred playing style would fit West ham perfevtly. All one touch stuff. A pretty hefty touch, admittedly... THere have been really encouraging signs though now. Definately the tactics have changed to get the ball into feet out wide much more often. Diouf and Hoilett have looked really good at retaining the ball and pushing on to dangerous positions. If we can improve what's going throught the middle - and MGP has already started to really pick up already - we will be laughing. Main issue is to either get Dunn properly fit or hope Goulon can add a bit of technique and forward drive. Roberts is doing a great job not only physically roughing up the defence but retaining and laying off for oncoming midfielders. Personally I think we have turned the corner footballing wise. We just need to maintain the improvement going forward.

There were some good moves on Sunday (the one that I think El Hadji headed over from springs to mind). It was just too good a line to let go!

Dont think you realise quite how much the depth of feeling amongst West Ham fans there is to being against Sam Allardyces brand of football. You'll find they'd probably rather go down than play the big Sam way, which for me is OK, but not for Hammers fans.
Smithy Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 I wonder if West Ham would buy Grella? I really think they are in trouble this year and sacking the number 2 is just a cheaper option than canning Grant.
Backroom trueblue Posted November 23, 2010 Backroom Posted November 23, 2010 Typing n driving aint ideal on the motorway y know Aye, pressing that return key with your big toe is an art in itself mate
goldenballs Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 I couldn't agree more. Who in there right mind would take taht job. West Ham are about to do what Portsmouth did last year and many teams before them who overspent and over estimated their self worth. Parker will go in the window and Grant will join him soon after. Oh, and the new manager? Curbishly. ANY existing premier league manager would be MAD to take the West Ham job...they are heading down, they have a poor squad and some unhappy players in the camp. Add to that 2 muppet owners.
chris Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 I hope Sam can stay on and get the success he had in the last season of Bolton where they were 4th or 5th. sure he has the ability to do it. The fact Blackburn are still in the PL is a miricle, to me SA has turned chicken sh£t into gold with the terrible funding he has had available. The last three years Blackburn have been nothing more then a coat hanger. a jay jay okocha style player and an Anelka par striker will shut up the haters.
