gumboots Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 If Sam has any nous about him, he'll be able to replace Pedersen next season for less cost on the wage bill. He is not an indispensable player in the way David Bentley was. His best form is behind him and I'm confident we can replace him. You may be but the management obviously aren't as they want to keep him. We don't have cash. We'll get no money for him. He'll be hard to replace, regardless of what we think. He has played poorly for quite some time but is playing better at the moment and still he can't satisfy people on here. He's not the star player that Bentley and others were, but he is probably better than anything else we'd get for absolutely nothing, which is what we'll have to spend on his replacement.

SergioPeter89 Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 They just said on Norwegian television that Pedersen have been offered 50k a week, but he isnt going to sign anything yet. If he isnt sure if he wants to sign a 50k a week contract, then he can just leave.. No player is bigger than the club.
John Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 Sam clearly rates MGP. Sam also, a few times, has said it is imperative for us to keep our better players if possible (as signing quality is extremely difficult). Therefore, it would be a big blow for him if was to leave.

BuckyRover Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 I doubt that is true. I know our board better than I know Norwegian TV.
Exiled_Rover Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 He's not worth £50k a week and if that's an actual offer it's no wonder we're spending so much of our total turnover on wages.
Exiled_Rover Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 Depends what contacts the Norwegian media has. His agent could easily have leaked the info to one of his mates. I really hope it's not true.
T4E Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 If it is true then it's a JW error in judgement that's up there with appointing Ince over Allardyce.
Exiled_Rover Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 Oh yeah if it's true Williams can never again complain about poor old Rovers competing with the big boys and having to spend all of their income on wages.
Steve Moss Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 MGP is not worth 50k/week. I think Sam could find a comparable or better player for 25k/week. That said, I doubt the Norwegian news is right on this one. I suspect that MGP's agent is floating numbers to see if there any are suckers willing to bite.
Bobby G Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 I wouldnt be surprised if MGP is offered that. He wont resign for less or even the same as he is on for the last big contract of his career especially with the temptation of a Bosman signing on fee around the corner. Reality check people!
BuckyRover Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 I would be happy to give him 50k pw. That is 10m over 4 years. If we needed to pay a transfer fee, say 4m, we would only be able to offer 30k pw. Which doesn't get you much these days.
tcj_jones Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 I would be happy to give him 50k pw. That is 10m over 4 years. If we needed to pay a transfer fee, say 4m, we would only be able to offer 30k pw. Which doesn't get you much these days. But if we gave him £50k a week, then all our other average players would be kicking down the manager's door demanding a 50% pay rise.
Majiball Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 10.4 million over 4 years, thats a lot considering the quality of players we've offered it to in the past IE Bentley & RSC. They had to show serious consistency over at least a full season to get those kind of offers, and despite his recent up-turn for me its excessive. I'd offer him what he's on, if its lower than 40K then raise it to that and if he wants 50K the rest must be performance based. I say that purely because we've been here before with him and his form plummeted. 50K a week is serious money for Rovers and I just can't see JW signing off on it. The Lisbon lad is surely no-where near that sort of money, he's younger as well. So if it is MGP's agent playing the hardball game, then I'd be playing it back and sniffing round other players available on free's like him. A few links to a couple of players who could replace him and perhaps his agent might start to be realistic. Monies tight in football the world over and given his inconsistency I just don't see many European clubs offering him that sort of dollar.
thenodrog Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 He's not worth £50k a week and if that's an actual offer it's no wonder we're spending so much of our total turnover on wages. Think about it ER. That will include a signing on fee that he would get at most other clubs cos he is out of contract and there will be no transfer fee. Sorry Bobby G .... I just noticed that you nhad made the same point.

If he isnt sure if he wants to sign a 50k a week contract, then he can just leave.. No player is bigger than the club. We can't offer him 50k a week. 1) His performances do not warrent it 2) We are over our wage budget 3) It will create wage inflation across the squad. Plus I think we are in a pretty decent position are we not? Olsson looks like he is the part, Diouf has refound form and Sam has identified left wing targets for the summer. I cannot see him being offered any more than his previous contract which is 35k. If we had offered 50k I am sure he would have signed by now. All speculative but that is my gut feel. If his agents have leaked this because he wants 50k then he is gone.
waggy Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 His boyfriend won't be too pleased, Waggy... is he a footballer

I just noticed that you nhad made the same point. Oh yeah I've thought about it. There is an argument for paying him the money because we'd have to pay a transfer fee (or a hefty signing on fee for a free agent) for his replacement, but the thought of tying ourselves into a contract worth £10m with Pedersen for the next four years terrifies me.
Hughesy Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 The 50k figure does not suprise me one bit...I heard he was already on 45k a week and therefore this fits! He apparently turned down the same contract in the summer, because he wanted a raise....looks like we have offered him one! Im sorry but we shouldnt pay him more than £35k a week!
