mellison24 Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Yeah but even if we did have a decent wedge of cash, who would want to come and play for us? Someone better than Benjani?? We are at the stage where we must rely on finding hot prospects and have-been-and-might be agains, unfortunately. But so be it.

Amo Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 I think we all know what's happened to the Benni money:
roverich Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Strikers. etc you just downloaded a football manager update or something?? where the hell did you find that list? Good work! shame there's noone with any quality, although I might have withheld judgement for a bit if we'd signed Viduka. Surprised he's free and not playing in the Australian leagues.
Hi Mack Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 .. is a better footballer than james beattie by a long way. I went West Ham on saturday and saw JR miss a sitter I was there when he missed an open net at Sunderland last season in the last minute. Infact we can start a game "Where and When?"- Jason Roberts sitter Edition Beattie is a better player, Better finisher, Better at set pieces attacking/defending etc!
Jackson Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 My first contribution on this thread because I knew how it would eventually pan out - just as it always does. Next time one of these threads gets started in the next window - do yourselves a huge favour and abstain from posting, there really is no point. By the way, I cannot see any positive in selling a striker and not replacing him, unless it's all about keeping our powder dry. Our powder is now dryer than a Nun's nasty.
ABBEY Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 .. is a better footballer than james beattie by a long way. roberts is bloody awful!!!!!
Hi Mack Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Our powder is now dryer than a Nun's nasty. Or wasted.........just like a nuns nasty!
booth Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 .. is a better footballer than james beattie by a long way. Holy crap can we have the - button back!
Miker Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 If we continue with the 4-4-1-1 then it's not a big loss. We have Dunn, Pedersen and Yildiray who can play that role and Roberts, Kalinic, Di Santo for the striker role. Plenty of depth in all areas, some decent talent in all areas and we should have a team good enough to avoid relegation at the very least. If we do manage to finish 10th this season then that could mean greater investment and funds available for next season, which will be nice. By then our talented youngsters will have more experience and we'll have the money to bring in someone with quality into the team. I think not buying anyone now is a blessing in disguise because we can assess what we need for the team at the end of the season far better than now and as a result buy someone who can truly strengthen our team, not just a panic buy.
Kelbo Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 What do we do? Oh, its transfer window, we MUST sign someone, poor or not, we must!!! Benni was a bad influence in the dressing room of late, surely you want a united dressing room, I certainly saw players playing for each other at West Ham and v Fulham!! I have seen Sunderland tonight, they have spent loads more than us and they were poor, really poor, Stoke were better but not much although both Fuller and Etherington looked dangerous!! Lets carry on with youth, I believe if we stay up this year and a couple of additions in summer, we will push on!! Remember, a few contracts are up come June!!
Spansterkid Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 .. is a better footballer than james beattie by a long way. Jason Roberts is an oversized rugby league winger who, by some misfortune, gets to wear association football boots and kit occasionally. By a further extremely cruel twist of fortune the kit he wears is blue and white halves at the moment. Good God he's useless.
nick123 Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Im sorry but has no one noticed that we aee not the only ones to do any real business in thi window. surely any idiot can see that in these financial times we are going through you realise that there is zero money about. Banks no longer shell out any cash nor do they support any business, and Rovers are a business and it is the running of this business in the sound manner which we are, is the only way to make sure that we still have a club in the future. I firmly believe what is the point in spending money for spending sake. This situation will be with us for at least another 12 months, in which time i would forcast much bigger clubs than us will find themselves in the same situation as Portsmouth. As much as Sam would like to spend I for one am glad he hasnt and protects the financial future of our club. We will stay up and the fact we continue to defy the odds makes me even more proud to be a Rover.
Steve Moss Posted February 1, 2010 Author Posted February 1, 2010 Does missing out on all of your targets ever get classified as a triumph? Yes, thankfully. Williams is losing his touch...........First the appointment of Ince, then handing Andrews a new improved contract and now this debarcle......Very unprofessional of BRFC. I disagree with this very strongly. We have a solid squad. Those who have moved on, Benni and Treacy, have contributed little. In Benni's case his value was falling every month. We did well to get rid of. Basturk and the young lad from Algeria are players that we have signed, the first one should be ready to play in a few weeks. In the summer we had a MASSIVE wage bill that needed to be slashed, the money is obviously there otherwise how would we have purchased the Polish bloke? Benni is no big loss, he was a burden on the wages/ How much has he contributed this season? I think between Benni and Treacy, we've probably handled last summer's wage bill problem. Which I think is good business. And this coming summer, we'll lose Basturk (if he's a flop-hopefully he isn't and stays a year or two), MGP (despite his improvement, its too little, too late and he costs too much in any event), Reid (a good player and person who may or may not be past it and who costs a lot, in any event) and possibly Hoilett (who I'd prefer to keep and develop, if possible and cost-effective). So far I think we're doing very well. We failed to pick up three sometime forwards- a used dildo from Pompey, an injury-prone and tempramental ageing speed machine from the Council House and Dunny's drinking buddy from Stoke. This triple failure alone has made the January transfer window a resounding success for good old Rovers. Absolutely. We've avoided more deadweight and are becoming a leaner machine, which is the direction we need to go if we are to stay competitive. There's a lot to be said for the 'dodged three bullets' argument. But explain this to me... What were you doing in those particular firing ranges anyway? Psyching out the competition. If they think we want them, they might jump to stop us from getting our targets. A "please don't throw me into the briar patch" strategy. And it worked, in that they're cluttering up our competitors' wage bills. Of course it just could be about the money? I bet the Benni fee magically disappears come May .... Money doesn't disappear. It's either reinvested, paid over to creditors, or paid out to the owners. As I understand the BRFC, on the downside it doesn't reinvest much but on the upside it doesn't pay out to its owners. So if it goes "missing", then we've likely paid creditors, which is a very good thing for the continued health of the club. Morten has obviously not been too impressed with the rival interest so far - Olympiacos, Fenerbahce and Celtic. So he will play out the season. There is obviously scope to keep him, but my gut feeling is that he will go. Please let this be true. Olsen and Hoilett are more than adequate replacements. Maybe Junior sees the future at Ewood now. He might be given atleast sub role as a striker if we play two in front. Would have been nice to sign striker but honestly, alternatives were pretty week. Atleast we don´t have to sell one more before buy next summer. I think Junior might want to take a look at the club and maybe realize its planning for the future. We're stabilizing, Sam has the HMS Blackburn Rovers on a good course, and we'll move up the league table. Too many of our competitors look to be flash in the pans, doing well because of millions invested by their owners, but no real long term plan for the future. The club will be fine and I expect John and Sam will be adding a qaulity player or two in the summer.
Hi Mack Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Has anyone ever seen Basturk play? He is nothing like Benni McCarthy, the point is Sam has pointed out our weakness (our finishing), yet fails to do anything about it, apart from getting rid of our BEST finisher! Benni has been on his way for a good few weeks now but we leave it until the last hour on the last day to find a replacement, and just to re-iterate there are more than 3 strikers in the world, Our scouting net work should be out there looking, it doesnt take an expert to earmark Beattie Dindane and Benjani as targets. There seems to be a flaw in the system somewhere!
Seedstral Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 We have got good money for an unfit spoilt brat who as he has said wants to represent his own country at the world cup as there is no greater honour than to do that especially when they are the host nation and then weeks later criticises the manager for tellng him to come in at 7 in the morning to get himself fit. Double standards or what. Then he decides to go awol and refuses to return to the club to force the issue and yet people are calling the manager for letting him go. Stop being so blinkered for a change and realise that the club has acted in the best interests for us all. He was a disruptive influence in the dressing room and completely undermined everything about our football club. Cheerio and good riddance imo!!!

You mean the Fulham game that Benni got the 2 assists in?
Kelbo Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 You mean the Fulham game that Benni got the 2 assists in? One was a miss hit corner!!
saxo1man30 Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 I went West Ham on saturday and saw JR miss a sitter I was there when he missed an open net at Sunderland last season in the last minute. Infact we can start a game "Where and When?"- Jason Roberts sitter Edition Beattie is a better player, Better finisher, Better at set pieces attacking/defending etc! i was there when james beattie missed a sitter at ewood park earlier this season after coming on as a sub. his goal record is no better than jason roberts because guess what? he misses chances he should score too! add to that the fact his all round game and movement is more restricted than jason roberts and that adds up to us being better off with JR, thank you and goodnight.
martmitch Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 am i the only one wondering why we didnt do a smash and grab on moses, with all the talk of buying players as an investment with resale value, hows the hottest 18 year old striker in the country for 2.5m?one good half season in the prem and he would be easily 4x that money
HemelRover Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 One was a miss hit corner!! And the other was a poorly defended corner. Benni has had such a small impact on our season this year through actually playing well, semi decent(or miss-hit) set piece deliveries dont count. Portsmouth at home is maybe the only actual time he has turned a game for us. Christ sake, the so called "best finisher at the club" didnt score his first goal in the league until Boxing Day. We will not miss him.
saxo1man30 Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 moan moan moan. thank god most on here live in some far flung place as ex pats and won`t be anywhere near ewood for our players to listen to your whiney tones. we have lost NOTHING AT ALL by not signing dindane, beattie or benjani, none of those players would have made us a better side, end of.
