Nelsta Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 We'll probably stick with the same formation but swap Heskey for Defoe. Sticking Gerrard out on the left.....again. 6 million to stick a round peg in a square hole, genius.

Majiball Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 Take your point, but surely if he was still up to it hed be given a new contract by Chelsea? True, but don't they want to lower the average age of the squad? He's also second to Malouda as well now who's played a blinding season. I know there's one or two who are a little bemused by his release at the club. Don't forget they also got rid of Ballack who's hardly poor. I rate him above Lennon or SWP and Milner, none of whom have ever really done it for England like he has. When he pulls on the England shirt he plays with pride and passion, some of his best performances have come for England. I'm not hailing him as the key, but as left sided midfielder instead of Gerrard being shoved out there where he never performs. Bucky I take your points, but as far as I'm concerned England should have walked that qualifying group anyway. You had a couple of poor results during it as well, it wasn't a great as others make out. Capello is a great manager I'm not saying he's not but after Maclarens performance he could hardly lose.
Steve Moss Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 I'd start the second string. They would at least be desperate to impress and would still be good enough to beat Slovenia 9 times out of 10. This would be sensible but the marketing types would never go for it.
67splitscreen Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 Defoe and Milner in, Cole still warming the bench.
Exiled_Rover Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 It's by far the best team he's chosen, assuming Johnson and Cole are used more as wing backs, but it's still not the side I'd have picked. Guess we'll see if he's really a football genius or not.
Nelsta Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 Latest team news. [] class, the scary thing is though.Take the glasses of the keeper and he looks like robbo.
67splitscreen Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 67splitscreen, that's quality. It is, have to hold my hand up, it's not my work, received it via email. I like the Heskey makeover. Gerrard at the head of the diamond, hopefully that will do the trick and get the best out of him.
Paul Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 The BBC1 live stream appears to have collapsed as the nation's "office workers" log in. Bugger.
Majiball Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 If I were the BBC I'd have all the TV licence vans patrolling the working districts in cities and towns??? Got a licence? EDIT: get Milner off he hasn't got one cross in yet in about 5-6 attempts.
adopted scouser Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 get Milner off he hasn't got one cross in yet in about 5-6 attempts. Ever said summat you wanted to take back ?!! 1 - 0
Rovermatt Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 Shocking coverage of the game on the BBC's website. I know I should be doing some work but still...
Majiball Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 Ever said summat you wanted to take back ?!! 1 - 0 Reverse psychology in action.
Majiball Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 Lawro reckoned only a worldie could have saved that? I think this keepers having a stinker today almost scored a O.G. as well. I'm going to try again: Wayne Rooney couldn't hit the back door of a barn with a wrecking ball.
Backroom DE. Posted June 23, 2010 Backroom Posted June 23, 2010 Why didn't we play like this against Algeria? Looking good. We should be 2 up at least. The only way Slovenia are going to score is via a huge mistake from one of our players or a set piece. If we nick a 2nd early in the 2nd half the game's over.
Mr. E Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 Still not good from England. Milner and Defoe the best players by far, but Barry has been shocking. Every single pass he has made has gone horribly wrong, I do not understand at all why he is on the pitch. Get Carrick on immediately. Rooney can not play in this formation either, the sooner Crouch comes on the better.

He keeps things ticking over and holds the midfield together. I'd take Lampard off though - he's done nothing.
