joey_big_nose Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 I think Graham and Jackson will be used roughly equally. Jackson looks to offer so much in terms of running the channels and pace. I can't see us just using him as impact sub.

Veevs Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 Something else I couldn't help but notice is how lopsided we are. All of our attacking players (Graham, Bennett, Marshall, Conway, Jackson, Watt, Taylor) are all right-footers. Not one leftie in there. Gomez?
BlueMonday Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 I could go with Evans out there instead of Bennett, slightly more defensive but maybe that's what is required. He can give Marshall licence to get forward a bit more. Didn't see your post before I hit return, but yes similar thinking. I thought about bennett as allegedly more pace but those that have seen more of him than me haven't rated him so far. Really interested to see how PL uses Gomez, could be the key that unlocks the door!
JBiz Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 Something else I couldn't help but notice is how lopsided we are. All of our attacking players (Graham, Bennett, Marshall, Conway, Jackson, Watt, Taylor) are all right-footers. Not one leftie in there. I've been saying this for some time. I think we should've looked for one after cairney - this problem has to be on PLs list Never been a fan of him tbh but he's been off the boil whenever I've seen him play. For an already slow player to suffer such muscle injuries, it's gonna be hard for him to get back to the level he was at pre-injury. I'd bet he doesn't reach those dizzy heights again. Spurr is never going to be good enough for a team with ambitions of finishing above mid-table. He might work hard and be a nice lad but he's not good enough - too slow, poor passing, poor movement, no good on the ball. We can and MUST do better... As for Gomez, little worried about his lack of strength and whether his legs are up to it but it'll be nice to see a midfielder who can pass the ball that's for sure. A team is the sum of its parts. If Spurr can be decent, I think we will be fine till the end of the season but potentially need to prioritise a new left full back. We'd need to look at both full back positions, but if Marshall can make the right his own, that's less work!
J*B Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 Its completely blowing my mind that anybody can suggest that Conway could work in a midfield three. We're playing Boro, who by all accounts are the best team in the league and have just blown another load of money in January. We're not going to be playing any funky 4-3-1-2 formations. They play 4-2-3-1, we'll play 4-5-1 or 4-2-3-1. Steele Marshall Ward Hanley Spurr Akpan Gomez Bennett Watt Conway Graham I think.
Salgado Is Still A Hero Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 Think we need both Akpan and Evans in this one. Gomez playing off Watt, for his pace.

BlueMonday Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 Its good we have different options now. Recently the team was picking itself, so poor were the options.
philipl Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 Really happy with this signing. Perfect midfielder to play balls into channels for Jordan... on hang on OK joking apart, we suddenly have four players who have real Premier League pedigree and I have always been a fan of Jordi Gomez.
ChrisyG Posted February 2, 2016 Author Posted February 2, 2016 It would have been a terrible window if we'd only signed players with boring names like Watt, Graham, Bennet and Jackson * Yawn * But Gomez, JORDI GOMEZ!!! What a class name! Boy did we need that!

VinjayV4 Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 None of the Allardyce fans wondering why he let him go then?
m1st Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 Re the teams suggested for the future and in particular, the Middlesbrough game, I'm a bit sorry not to see anyone picking Lenihan for a start. He may not be the fastest but I think he's one we ought to be encouraging.
VinjayV4 Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 I like the quote on his twitter bio... "Mediocrity will always try to drag excellence down to its level. Don't trade your superiority for their inferiority." Another guy referring to the club as "Blackburn" though. Its about time (same for the previous regime) the people at the club really put emphasis on players referring to the club as Rovers. Make it a contractual stipulation if necessary. This is by far the biggest club with that name and it should be completely synonymous with it. Obviously the previous people at the club (Williams/Finn) knew this and its obvious the onerovers name was copied from oneunited. They were not demanding enough however that the players use it and the current regime probably haven't even thought of it.
Amo Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 Gomez? Jordi Gomez is a left-footer. I was talking about strikers & wide midfielders. Gomez certainly won't be moved to the wing. It doesn't matter so much in central positions if both players favour the same foot. Having one left-footed player in our entire midfield ain't great.
Amo Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 He's spent a lot of time out injured - I'd be prepared to see him given a bit more of a chance again before completely writing him off. This isn't Paolo Maldini we're talking about. Spurr is bottom-half Championship/L1 standard. With FFP looming over us, we have to make sure every penny counts. I don't see how we can justify keeping Spurr as back-up when Henley can step in as cover.

I read that he's played left midfield before at Sunderland. Let's hope Lambo doesn't do a Cairney. We need Jordi's creativity in the middle.
Tardyrover Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 None of the Allardyce fans wondering why he let him go then? Probably the same reason Junior Hoilet couldn't get a game under big Sam ..too skilful!!!
Amo Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 I read that he's played left midfield before at Sunderland. Let's hope Lambo doesn't do a Cairney. We need Jordi's creativity in the middle. Lambert has talked about signing a No. 10, maybe he envisions Gomez playing off the striker(s)? We could have a top half of: Akpan - Evans Watt - Gomez - Conway Graham Although, we would probably have to play quite narrowly to prevent Watt getting isolated out-wide.
Backroom Mike E Posted February 2, 2016 Backroom Posted February 2, 2016 Lambert has talked about signing a No. 10, maybe he envisions Gomez playing off the striker(s)? We could have a top half of: Akpan - Evans Watt - Gomez - Conway Graham Although, we would probably have to play quite narrowly to prevent Watt getting isolated out-wide. I suspect that'd be narrow anyway, given Conway's cut-in nature. Perhaps relying g on steady overlap from the full backs?
dingles staying down 4ever Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 I suspect that is the way we will line up. I suspect Conway will probably will be wider but I also suspect that the three behind Graham may be flexible in their positions.
LewisF Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 I think Watt will probably play on the right flank as suggested, but playing much narrower than a traditional winger, so he can link up with Graham. Gomez in the hole as a no 10 would work
Baz Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 Gomez is out of contract at the end of the season too, so we should be in pole position to sign him if he does well.
