Bearing in mind general crowd levels around that period those gates show how important the FA cup was then. I'm guessing that most of those clubs had higher gates for that match than their league games.

The FA Cup certainly drew bigger crowds than league games back in the day. In the 1952 run to the semi final, I well remember nicking off school (and happily taking the inevitable punishment), for a 3rd round replay against Forest. It was before floodlights, so an early Wednesday afternoon kick off, and the gate was around 35,000. The 4th round attracted a home gate of about 45,000 against Hull. That was followed by home games against West Brom and Burnley with full houses of over 50,000

Has anyone got a large collection of old Rovers VHS or DVD's? Anything from season reviews to the 'bring on the clarets' dvd, would like some pictures & stories around how they came about if possible.

I did have - digitised most of them now though & long since thrown away…

A poster from America asked a similar question a few years back and got some useful feedback. He managed to put together a good collection of Rovers VHS/DVDs. SanDimas (Rick) may be able to provide you with some pictures.

The following links might help. The second one is an article where he writes more about his collection:

Per MarkBRFC, here’s a list of every VHS that was released.

The article that was linked to is probably the best photos you’ll get of them. Scott put together a collage of all of the ones between our collections.

Here’s a link to my YouTube playlist. I indicate in the description about quality and how much was edited out (Premier League made me edit out a lot of goals). They are all uploaded in full to Internet Archive, so you can find anything there too

Brilliant. Don’t think I’ve seen those before.

The crowds !  Wow.

I got bored waiting for the rolling around feigning injury like you’ve been shot but there wasn’t any.
How the game I grew up with and loved with a passion is now completely knackered.

The modern game is played by overpaid and over hyped nancys

Funny old world.
Our old winger pulling the strings at United and our pointy midfielder pulling up trees at Brentford. Who would have thought it?

Jason Wilcox, also know as Handbag if you stood on The Riverside, where he was given dogs abuse early in his career.

Keith Andrews is one of the only players booed when announced in the starting lineup! Not heard that to often at Ewood thankfully.

Tough being a football at times.

Indeed.
It turned out alright for those two although the Guardian did a take the piss piece on Wilcox today.

Tbf to Wilcox he must have some backbone as he suffered so much abuse early in his career.

Ditto for Andrews as he never hid despite the abuse he received. I always blame Ince for buying Andrews and playing him when he clearly wasn't good enough.

I was at the game but was only 11. My dad let me know how big a deal it was to see Moore's last game in English football!
