I dont get why this Wigan comparison keeps coming up. I think most would agree that this season for Spurs will be a memorable one and they wouldnt swap it in isolation for a much higher league finish and no trophy.

That doesnt mean though that the manager should stay. Results across the whole season have been awful and Ange has not demonstrated that he is the man to take them forward. They would essentially be keeping him on the result of one game against United.

I would take winning a trophy and poor league campaign. Plus also got Champions league football cos of that trophy.

How many Wigan fans would swapped their FA cup trophy for staying up in the Premier League? Bet not many.

Plenty of Spurs fans wanted him to stay. Plenty of complementary videos on Ange bring a trophy to Spurs. Some fans want a change of course As I would expect.

Q

I have a question for you. Would you take a season here where you have to accept relegation but we win the League Cup? And would you keep Ismael if that happened?

I would take that for a memorable trophy win, but also want Ismael out as he would have failed to demonstrate the ability to get results week in week out.

Yes, they want him to stay now but they were calling for his head for the majority of the season.

But he promised a trophy and he delivered. Simple as.

Wigan is a different situation entirely, as they weren't expecting to be battling it out at the top of the Premier League. Of course they would take a trophy and relegation because it was the only chance of winning a trophy for a long time and they would be battling relegation anyway.

Not at all a different story. Wigan could have prioritise the league and staying up, they didn't but they won a trophy and that's day is always in Wigan fans memories. Just like our league cup win in 2002.

Spurs are supposedly a big club, so the media constantly tells us, and so should be battling it out at the top and winning trophies.

They did win a trophy and with that champions league. They were the favourite for the competition and they delivered and win the competition

The bigger picture is, that he looks to be a poor manager despite the trophy win. They've backed him with good money and he's delivered a much needed trophy for the club but taking everything into account, the performances in the Premier League were horrific and it's been a huge factor in his dismissal.

Poor manager who delivered what he promised. A trophy. That's the true bottom line.

Would he have written the league off again from day 1 in order to try and win a trophy in a cup competition? Why bother with a season ticket when you know the manager isn't giving it any serious consideration?

Do you think any Spurs fan would swap winning a trophy in order to finish in the top 6? Football should be winning a trophies not finishing top 6.

Incidentally, had he not beaten the worst Man Utd team for 30 years and was sacked, no one would be batting an eyelid about his dismissal.

Do you think Spurs fan is that bother who they beat to win their first trophy in years

Cos it doesn't back up your opinion hence why you dont like it.

Ange promise a trophy and he delivered. Spurs fans will never that day but they won't remember finishing 17th for sure. They will always remember winning that trophies especially those fans at the stadium.

I ain't changing my opinion at all. Why don't we leave it there. No one opinion is changing.

No one has said that they wouldnt prefer to win a trophy over finishing higher in the league.

Its just that some people think that the overall performance of the club this season predominantly results in the league season make it understandable why the club have decided that Ange isnt best placed to take it forward and understand the sacking.

Your inability/refusal to see any nuance is infuriating.

He didn't promise anything, he just said "I always win something in my second season"

Of course it's different to Wigan, they had been battling against relegation for a few seasons, there was no expectation for Wigan to do anything different other than battle relegation from the league. Spurs are expected to fight on all fronts as they've heavily backed their manager.

Of course they won't swap it but the cup win doesn't make Ange a great manager when the evidence of a 17th placed premier league finish with less than 40 points on the board is sat there as evidence to the contrary.

I don't think it suits yours either, Wigan didn't prioritise the cup over the league, they won the cup and tried to stay in the league as well.

Wigan only made 2 changes for the FA cup final vs the game before it, one was a player returning from injury.

Anyway, I'm done banging my head against a brick wall on this.

Just saw earlier that Uriah Rennie has died at the age of 65.

Quite saddened and shocked by that to be honest.

Along with being a referee he was a martial arts black belt I believe.

He was a shit ref though.

I thought he was quite good in that if you were playing one of the "big 4" of the time he would give a much more even handed display than the other referees would and wouldn't just give them every decision.

RIP.
