Markanday not being offered anything may show just how little money the manager has to play with next season.

why would we offer him anything? has he been a success at Orient?

I don't follow Orient particularly closely if I'm being honest. I thought there would be a decent chance after a season of pro football with our thin budget he may have been looked at. Hopefully we are onto bigger and better things, I'd be very happy if we were.

You’re happy we’ve triggered hedges, who hasn’t been a success at rovers.

He didn't start either Playoff game. started 13 games in 21 games during the league,

I think he is another one who need to leave and find first team football to develop and play regular football

I see Hedges a good squad player and I like him. He was very often involved in our goals towards end of the season, like Ohashi goal at Sheffield.

Name another goal he was involved with.

People keep mentioning his versatility when scraping the barrel for positives. Is he versatile? Is being equally ineffective on either the left or right wing versatility?

Its the low cost and ease of the deal which made it inevitable.

You forgot to mention he's happy to be here because he's playing a level above his natural one.

Not suitably impressed by him running a bit and passing the ball wide in the build up to a goal?

Its just chronically low standards that sadly weve naturally got now whereby we look at an attacking player who is so poor in attacking positions and give him a new deal because its cheaper to do, its easier to do and we fear getting someone even less effective.

You know you are scraping the barrel when he has scored only one and assisted only two, that you are trying to make him seem like a good attacking player by highlighting simple passes well before the actual goal was scored.

Markanday shouldn't have a problem finding a club in league 1/2. Did well at Chesterfield and not breaking into a team fighting for promotion in league 1 doesn't necessarily mean he can't cut it at that level. Surprised we didn't try getting £100k or so for him.

At least they have seen the obvious in Vale.  Not good enough by a long way.

Your hatred for Hedges which I think is clear to see is baffling. 3 head coaches had mostly picked him as a regular which tell you alot and maybe they see what you can't or won't see

was the pass to Ohashi to score the winner at Luton an easy one or the pass to Woodrow at Sunderland for Dolan's winner?

Hatred? Dont be a child. I just am not keen on substandard players playing for the club. It comes down to standards.

We have had years of cost cutting so we havent had much choice but to play him. Everyone has been calling for us to sign pacy wingers for ages and our constant inability to do that has made those calls a running joke. Plus managers can make wrong decisions.

Jason Lowe must have been a good Championship midfielder considering how he kept getting picked.

To be fair Chaddy, that would only tell us something if they were picking him over decent players. The reason why he has played so much has had far more to do with the him having no decent competition - not his fault admittedly - than him deserving the shirt through his own form.

Hedges has aspects to his game which are fine. His attitude is good. He's is reasonably athletic and a decent size which is more than you can say for most of our other attackers, and that helps in and out of possession. Him being left footed can balance the team etc.

But his attacking output is abysmal for an attacking player. Really poor. I don't hate the idea of keeping him as a squaddie, but there will have been players in his position with as many goal involvements in a single game last season as Hedges managed in 42. Not acceptable I'm afraid.

Great post. Plus there are numerous players who have played a decent amount at this level, including for us (Lowe isnt the only one) who have done so whilst not necessarily warranting it.

Or JDT, Eustace and Ismael really rated him alot more than others do on this forum

Perhaps they did. But we'd only have evidence for this if they were picking him over other decent options. Which he wasn't, because we didn't.

There definitely are. In fairness to a lot of them (maybe not Lowe!) second division footballers are usually those who can look fine if you play to their strengths, and can look almost semi-pro if you don't. We've had heaps of them at Rovers - our current Head of Football Operations being one! And it's not even as though I think Hedges is without his good points. But he's played well over 100 games now and his numbers have been just as poor in a range of systems, from playing on the counter to more possession based.

At the end of the day, I like Hedges and I think he is good squad player for us, can play either wide position and experience which I think we need here. Ismael has said in the LT recently, he thinks there is more to come from Hedges. I don't think he is regular starter but I think starting some games and coming on in others I see as his role this coming season. I still think we need a new right winger and another attacking player who can play up front or wide left.
