Probably spacing out all the incommings, as it will be our last one until Travis is sold late in the window, and we have a flurry of teenage loanees arrive on deadline day

I think they are trying to flog Buckley before announcing him, otherwise they might have to spend some money out of pocket...

In all fairness, the question was do players the Scottish league ever do well in England

Fair to say that Tugay might have been the best of those, (maybe Van Dijk runs him close?)

The fact that 95% of players from the Scottish league are not particularly good doesn't change that

Β

Another Aussie, Viduka, would be up there with one of the best arrivals to English football from the SPL.

Might drag until the last week of the window then!

Can't imagine there are many takers for Buckley at the min.

Yep, normally you might manage to sell him to a newly promoted team, but given all 3 of them look stronger than usual, then best they can manage may be a loan with an option to a Huddersfield/Stockport etc

Impossible!

Sales do not impact the budget πŸ˜‰Β

It's why I am a bit worried about the complete lack of links to a winger (since the Saudi one stopped), every other signing we have made is pretty much a cheaper salaried replacement for a player we offloaded (not including loans):

McLoughlan = Batth

Miller = Brittain

Alebiosu = JRC

Tavares = Weimann

De Neve = Dolan/Markanday

We know that Pasha hasn't allowed a transfer budget above what we already have, so I think we are creating funds by reducing wage expenditure and then that funds the difference (say a 5k player replacing a 10k one, and using the 250k odd difference for transfer).

The transfer fees themselves, like for Brittain will instead be largely used for day-to-day costs, and maybe 10-20% to help get a replacement to placate the fans (Miller I would guess they knew they needed a replacement or there would be revolt).

So in a practical sense incoming transfers do not impact the lack of budget.

Eyal Berkovic did quite well for us.Β

We could also run through a long list of players who have left the SPL who we'd be delighted to sign. I know the question is direct SPL to Championship, but there's lots of talent in Scotland.Β

Tugay was ok too, I guess…

Sadly also seems that the proud streak of Academy players in the XI will end fairly soon. Might even get our first ever non-english XI.

Travis, Wharton, Carter, Montgomery and Tyjon (not counting Buckley) are the only ones with that classification, and between potential sales and injuries, it's very possible we see a team of; Toth, Ribiero, McLaughlin, Hyam, Miller,Β Sondre, Tavares, Kargbo, Hendrickson, Hedges, Ohashi.Β

Zero English, Zero Academy.Β Minor problem in 2025? maybe. But sad.

Loves Berkavoic..Β  so smooth and graceful. Criminally under rated!Β

I recall Southampton buying a glut of players including him and Ostenstadt to accompany a young Latvian Michael Owen that absolutely dismantled Man United.. what a brilliant era!!!

and when that day happens, Rovers via social media will claim it a victory for our expanded scouting network

I remember looking at our team under Mowbray and being proud of the British feel and littered with academy products. Felt we at least bucked the trend with that. The academy player streak is a source of pride also. So I’d be very sad to see that go

Unfortunately the English premium is killing us. And we can’t keep hold of our best academy players. We need new owners, or we are going to keep finding ourselves in new and unwanted situationsΒ

There was a story I think on here a few years ago that he once sat with the Rovers fans at one game and he was given terrible abuse by some rovers 'fans'

Would have loved to have seen those,two together..Β  Dunn, Duff, Flitcroft, Gillespie, Tugay, Berkavoic... That's a midfield capable of challenging the very best!!
