A few years ago he was being looked at by Bayern as a second/third choice if I recall

I put the word in your mouth, but when you say some random from Bristol City wouldn't have to be very good to be an upgrade on Toth, it suggests a very low opinion of him, one I can't imagine is shared by more than a handful of fans across the whole fanbase. I wasn't looking for confrontation, I'm just stunned you don't think he is at least a steady, dependable keeper at this level.

Tbh I think you tend to form your judgements on players early and not let them go when they improve or settle in. I suspect your opinion of Toth is based 90% on him being a bit wobbly at first when he came in last season. Since we got relegated, Toth is the most dependable keeper we've had bar Kaminski, and we've tried quite a few. Obviously Raya was the most gifted, but a bit prone to errors (still really liked him overall at the time, but I can't say he was consistently dependable to the same degree as the other two). This O'Leary would have to be a very good keeper at Championship level to improve on Toth.

They have already tried to shunt Pears out of the door, they may succeed in the near future.  He hasn't been disastrous for us this season, so he may have done enough to earn himself an escape

That would leave us with an 18 year old Michalski., so a cheap/free player would probably suit Rudy/Pasha perfectly

From what I have seen, O'Leary is inferior to Toth, & a similar standard to Pears.  On the bright side, he is better than Ethan Horvath, who I hypothesised earlier, that he may be on the shopping list

On either the loans or the Academy thread thought I read we had

1) Toth

2) Pears

3)Michaelowski

4) Goddard

5) Jack Barrett

6) A lad called Khan? (May have the name wrong but no-one seemed to rate him)

plus maybe even one other? Apologies if Im wrong.

He was on their radar but nothing happened. I imagine he will be back on their radar if he continues as he is. Although being 28 he has time.

Edit: Not the most reliable guide I know but Ai and Transfer Market have his estimated value at £700 k. Id say that's a bit low but I wouldnt pay silly money for him.

O'Leary is a fairly steady keeper at this level I think, ever present in the last two seasons for a side that finished 11th & 6th.

Been injured a while then spent a bit of time on the bench, but has got himself back in the side playing there last 5 games.

There will be nothing in this one I'm sure.

Wolsoncroft, Thompson, Holt in the U18s

 

O'Leary is 29, he isn't being brought in as an academy player, most of those will be leaving within a year or 3 without making a dent in our first team

Realistically - Given he's a championship starter and rotational for Hungary I'd estimate between 3 and 4.5 plus a 10-20% sell on.

At a normal club which had given him a contract extension on what he was worth and had him tied down for 3+ years, maybe somewhere in the £4M- £5M range

Probably not in the summer with a year left on his contract and a known distressed seller, we  are probably looking at circa £3M (similar level to what they managed for Brittain, Travis etc)

I respect your opinion but for £5m + Id be starting the car now.

Maybe even £3m - £4m.

I can't see even our lot selling Toth AND Pears. Hopefully we manage to offload Pears for around £1m and can bring in either a capable deputy or a young prospect whose career is on the upgrade.

I would class Kahn & Barrett as superfluous, neither should have been given new contracts

Goddard & Honor are injured

Each scholarship year group tend to have one or 2, Wolsoncroft & Thompson were last season, Holt came through in this years group.  Next year will probably be Krajewski & Garside.  That's not an issue at U18 level, but they do seem to be frightened of cutting them loose at U21 level, maybe in part as keepers tend to develop later than outfield players

No. We are just ridiculous at accumulating keepers. Just not at keeping the good ones. Well...ridiculous at that too, just in a different way.

I think Toth is a fantastic keeper and unless we are selling Pears, bringing in another keeper is just going to take up a space in the 25 man squad.

Other positions are more of a priority.

Two other clubs in for him apparently so it’s a non starter. We only sign players when there’s no competition.

That poster who went to the Ismael talk said that Ismail had said Toth and Cantwell had been offered new deals we wouldn't be offering Toth a new deal if he had next year plus a years option

Venky Rovers only bother offering new contracts when a player has a year left
