  1. Can't believe the negativity around the lad already. Judge him when he's had a good run of starts in the first team. I don't think there are many of us that would disagree that we could have maybe spent the money a little more wisely but folk need to remember that he's a teenager who's still learning and finding his feet as a professional footballer. Allow him time to find his feet here. I've noticed it seems to be a common thing for Rovers fans to do is to write off a player as "shite" if they don't impress for a few games, I've seen and heard it done to Bell and Smallwood already this season. For the time being he's going to find it difficult to break into this team but I consider that a good thing because when he does finally get his chance then he will know that he has to play to the same standards and what is required of him. That said... He is not Danny Graham, he doesn't have the same experience, we have to play to his own strengths.
  2. I think we'll start to see Smallwood used more like this from now on. I've not really liked the stick he's taken this season but I can see why people grew frustrated, he's a limited player but his ability to tackle and press will be valuable as a squad player when we're trying to see games out. Going forward, we have players with more ability that will fit Mowbray's vision of playing possession football.
  3. A bit glass half empty maybe? You get no extra points for playing well, although it is better to watch. I think not knowing his best 11 could, in some way, be a positive thing at times because it keeps people competitive and perhaps, due to the amount of options we have. It's going to be difficult for TM to pick his best 11 but it would be good to know what the spine of the team is going to be consistently. The only 100% starters at the moment seem to be Raya, Mulgrew, Lennihan, Nyambe, Dack, Graham... Leaving the rest to fight it out. So looking at it i'd suggest it's more accurate to say that he doesn't know what his best midfield is, considering that is where most games are won and lost it's something he needs to work out soon if we want to be more consistent. I'd be building that midfield around Joe Rothwell, he's definately the one that could fill that void of ball playing class that we've lacked since Cairney left.
  4. I think we flattered Bolton in the 2nd half, their fans will be walking away from that thinking they're not that bad, when in fact we made them look a lot better than what they actually are... A poor side who have everything against a better side who performed poorly but still lost. I'm not too concerned about how we performed 2nd half because I've seen us play better when in front and and walk away winless. Sometimes you just have to grind it out. We will play better and win this season but I think that will only start to happen when TM knows what his best 11 is... One thing is for sure, it will be an 11 with Joe Rothwell in it, that lad is absolutely class, love watching him play. We should easily finish mid table, Bolton are relegation material, what do you expect with Jason Lowe in centre mid? He was absolutely chit by the way, first time I've ever enjoyed watching him try and pass the ball.
  5. What were they watching? That drag back turn yesterday was class, he won everything, hardly gave it away, looked physically imposing with great technique. For someone who's 6.3" he has great feet. Unlucky at one point where he flicked it over someone's head but ran out play. I was really impressed, looked loads better than I thought he would at this point. When we signed him Sunderland fans were saying how long it was since he won a league game of football, out of interest, does anyone know exactly? Edit: he won his first league game with Sunderland in Feb 2017, not sure he won again since, before that it was over 3 years without a league win.
  6. If Tony is a fair man then he should be looking at that performance and make the appropriate changes. Joe Rothwell deserves to start for a kick off and I'd be tempted to play Palmer instead of Armstrong who i'd either play through the middle or bring on for Graham.
  7. I think I'm a pretty fair poster on here, I've given credit where credit is due so far this season so here goes... That was as bad a performance I've seen under any manager, we looked void in style, method and ideas. How many touches did their lad have before he put in a cross unchallenged for their 2nd? I see this every week, full backs way too narrow allowing crosses to come in, nowhere near tight enough to the man. Rothwell should have started this game, especially with Bennett moving to right back. Mulgrew wouldn't have been my first sub and Brereton who was terrible wouldn't have been my 2nd either. Mowbray got it completely wrong tonight, worst performance I've seen under him. Too many long balls, it didn't work in the first half and I don't understand why Mowbray thought it would in the 2nd, in fact he should've noticed after 20 mins it wasn't working and changed it. Dack and Graham couldn't get hold of it or kept losing possession, we were absolutely 2nd to everything, chasing the game constantly. Joe Rothwell should be the first name in this midfield, head and shoulders above the rest of them when he came on. I like Harrison Reed but god knows how he got MOM, the only player that did anything worthwhile was Raya. Sheffield United we're a well drilled and organised side. No individual standout talents, but defended and attacked as a team, these are types of teams who get out of this league. They won the midfield battle and if you can do that at any level then you will likely win the game, they certainly deserved to win this game. I fear for us after this one, there was absolutely no positives to take from that, a very deflating performance and result that could bring about a difficult period for us. If I was really digging around for a single positive it would probably be that it's a good early lesson that sheer hard work will only take you so far in the league and that you need more quality and more than just a plan A. People may say it's one to forget which it certainly is not... It's a performance that needs scrutinising and studying if this group of players want to do ok this season because tonight was a real lesson in how to pick up results in this league.
  8. Fair points. If the offers of £10 a tickets came in after Christmas though then ST holders will have had a half a season of games without being undercut. Perhaps don't go quite as low as £10 but simply match the price at £15. The main issue is that ST prices are too high in the first place but surely if we can focus on simply filling the ground as much as possible then it will make it a much more attractive product for next ST's? Just very much doubt Waggot views it this way.
  9. Sometimes due to childcare I might get the chance to go last minute but if that extra charge rounds it up to a figure that I deem overpriced then I'll choose to watch it at home. I love Rovers of course but wether it's football or other products I choose to buy, I have a pretty strong opinion of what I think something is worth and if it exceeds it then I can pretty easily make my mind up. Championship football at any club is not worth more than £20 IMV.
  10. As far as sports reporting goes, this is the absolute pits, complete shite. I thought the lad did well. http://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2018/10/01/do-blackburn-and-sunderland-fans-discuss-jack-rodwells-performan/
  11. It's changed my mind on a few occasions.
  12. Out of interest, if season tickets were £99 what do all think the sales would be like?
  13. Just to add, there are other things that can be done to generate revenue to offset the loss of ticket income, say when someone buys a ticket(s) they get a free £5 voucher to be redeemed in the club shop or on their next ticket purchase when spending over £30... Something like that.
  14. Difference is we're not West Brom, we've been in a much more dire situation than them for the past 6-7 years and have 1000's of fans to win back and 18,000 seats to fill, the club need to be looking at that issue objectively but it doesn't take a genius to work out the answer is to lower ticket prices. As I said in my original post, we have to be more radical than merely comparing ourselves to other clubs as value for money, look outside the UK at Bundesliga and what they charge for a better quality product. We can't keep going on as we are, we need some new innovative ideas, starting with season tickets being something like £99... Before people spit their coffee out, to give you some perspective, look at this quote from a Brighton fan on reddit... "For the price of my season ticket at Brighton, admittedly in the most expensive regular section, I could get a VIP ticket at any Bundesliga club. Alternatively, for a couple of quid more, I could get the cheap season tickets at Bayern, Dortmund, Schalke, Bremen and Leipzig and just tour Germany watching Bundesliga match after Bundesliga match."
  15. Present your ticket stubs or receipts for the previous games? The good thing about it is that say you absolutely could not attend and you didn't want to lose your discount privilege then people would be getting tickets for friends and still putting backsides on seats, there's an incentive to keep going back. I take your point about pricing being financially viable but it's also the money handed over the bar too and surely a seat filled at £10 is better than nothing at all?
  16. The phrase '20 is plenty' certainly applies to us but to be honest I think we'd have to go cheaper than that. Start at £20 and next ticket gets knocked down £2 each time you purchase one for the following game, lowest price £10, miss a game it goes back to £20.
  17. Enjoyable, frustrating and disappointing day, was like watching a boxing match at times. They came at us early on, we found our composure and went at them. Great to watch. We are definitely capable of beating everyone in this league, a tough side to beat and have some quality too, I think a decent season could be in store for us if we can keep the injuries to a minimum and keep this work rate going. What have Forest spent all this money on exactly? They looked like any other side in this league, their keeper was time wasting in the first half at 0-0 and their attitude of going down all the time was poor. I look at their side and there aren't many players I'd swap for ours. Another side capable of finishing in a playoff place or bottom half. Looking at the chances we had, hitting the bar, two goal line clearances, Graham's shot, Dack's header, Armstrong's one on one we should have put it to bed. That said, after first 15 minutes I thought we would be in for a tough day but I should have learnt by now that our side is NEVER beaten, we will always work harder than the opposition. Looking at some individual performances... Reed was absolutely class, if we have a chance to sign him then we need to get it done ASAP. Touch, strength, vision, speed and he's a though little f*cker. Danny Graham is arguably the best centre forward in this league, so clever and strong. Centre halves always know they're in a game against him, must be a horrible job marking him. Smallwood was good, tackled and passed well, maybe his best performance so far this season. Some other good performances too and i thought Rodwell did well also. Won everything in the air, couple of nice passes too, still looks like he needs to find his feet still (obviously) but gave us a physical presence. Seen a few daring to lay the blame of too many draws at Mowbray's feet... Come on, individual errors and bad refereeing have cost us points. There's little he could have done if the ref is going to award a dodgy penalty at one end and deny us more of a penalty at the other. I should add, what would people suggest we do differently exactly? All we need to do is keep plugging away and eventually the confidence to finish teams off will come, if we start thinking we need to change whilst we're already playing well it could do more harm than good. We'll learn, grow in confidence and at some point give someone a good hiding. Proud of this group of players, disappointed with the result. TMBWA
  18. But it shows what is possible though. Fair enough, the stadium might not be full every week but I'm pretty sure out of that extra 17 or so thousand we could win a few back with good football, a new radical pricing structure along with some advertising. Would like to see more offers, try something like all tickets 5 quid, buy 4 get your 5th free. Surely the role of certain people at the club should be thinking of ways to get that stadium as full as possible for every single game... Not just setting prices for season tickets and washing your hands of it.
  19. Was thinking about this, what about some sort of loyalty scheme that say your first ticket is 20 quid you get 2 pounds knocked off your next ticket and max lowest price is £10. If you miss a game then it goes back up to £20.
  20. Could do but thought it would be better to have a separate on to discuss each game attendances, innovative ideas to increase gates, away attendances and ticket prices etc...
  21. https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/16908899.tony-mowbray-feels-a-warmth-from-fans-to-rovers-players/?ref=mac Felt sorry for Mowbray here and thought was a worthy topic for some open and frank discussion. As many of you are aware, I was a big advocate of the NAPM movement and numerous other protests, particularly when the club was on its arse under Ke*n and Coyle. In these situations, as the saying goes... Desperate times called for desperate measures and if in some way our actions helped to get us in the position we're in now then I don't regret it... If we're being honest though, it was Kean and Coyle's downright ineptitude that cost them their jobs. These days things are much more positive, (on the footballing side at least) yet the aftermath of the damage done by numerous poor managerial appointments, poor management by V*nkys is having a major effect on attendences at home. It's to be expected of course, some people lost faith, lost trust, lost the habit, lost the enjoyment, there are many variables I suppose. I lost most of those things but I always believed this club could find its way back somehow, that's why I still cared and fought for its future. Like many others, under Tony Mowbray I've found something to believe in again, I feel as if he's trustworthy, honest, decent, commited, all the things that I can't say about hardly anyone at Rovers since they took over. Because of this, I feel as I can find some identity with the club again, I look at the way he conducts himself and how the players perform and personally can't help but feel they deserve my support. I can see how other fans of this club and of others would see this as fickle or such like, fair enough, that's their opinion but it's as simple as giving the fans something to believe in, which TM has done both off and on the pitch. Yes Venkys are still the owners and yes they are ignorant but it works both ways and 2 can play that game, I'll ignore their existence as much as they ignore ours but as long as they support TM I couldn't care less. I'm not so short sighted and naive to think that this couldn't all fall apart in the drop of a hat and I doubt many reading this are either, the debt is still there and they still own the club... Whilst V*nkys are in charge anything is possible as we all know. That aside I feel this is a great opportunity to get back to supporting the club whilst there is something/someone worth while to support and make the most of this opportunity... Which bings me on to my main point... The club also needs to do something to seize this opportunity, look at the Oxford game, it doesn't take a scientist to work out why there were so many fans. Empty seats are no good to anyone so why not just do something absolutely radical like season tickets for £150 or a tenner a game? Yet prices increased, I just don't get it. There was an opportunity to really capitalise on that Oxford game that was obviously completely overlooked, perhaps its the decision makers being out of touch with the previous years and general damage that has been done but to use the phrase again... Desperate times call for desperate measures. The club need to try something new, look at the Bundesliga prices, try something like all tickets from Christmas onwards are £10 and fill the ground as much as we can, it could be pivotal to keeping us up or pushing us up the table. I hope people at the club are reading this and if you are... Be radical, talk to the fans, give everyone of every income the opportunity to support their local team, be pioneers against pricing poople out of football. Don't look to other clubs as measurement for value for money, set a new standard. We are fighting an ever more losing battle against ifollow and the red button and we have nothing to lose! TMBWA.
  22. There must be things we're not aware of that Mowbray is, he's obviously playing it this way for a reason but on the face of it it seems like he's trying to buy himself some time from another selection headache. From a fan perspective, I've made similar points to the ones above, I really don't understand the point of giving first team football and then dropping him down again... It's literally the definition of 1 step forward and 2 steps back. He's not a kid, if he's good enough then play him or at least have him in the squad because we could really use someone of his height and physicality. He's been playing under 23 football and training with them at Sunderland when he was cast out, give him some responsibility and allow him to grow, it's not like time his on his side, he needs to be making the most of his career now IMV.
  23. I guess so but the last one it didn't even sound like he was tested that much and obviously first team football is worlds apart... There's no other way to get him ready for the standard of first team football than to give him minutes off the bench IMV.
