  1. Come on Benno put us out of our misery!
  2. Did we play 3 at the back?
  3. The only worry is that he’s going to be stuck out of position on the wing, if Dack stays fit.
  4. Dack was poor (by his high standards) in the last few games of last season, great to hear he is finding form, needs to hit he ground running this season.
  5. Can he play as one of our middle 2? Hopefully spells the end for Evans, especially with Travis coming through.
  6. Leicester made up £15 million of "international marketing" revenue from a shell company and pretty much got away with it.
  7. If we go into the season with the wingers we've got now (Conway) we might as well start looking at who we'll be playing in League One next season.
  8. I think we're still a few signings short of being a better squad having lost Payne, Armstrong and Chapman at the end of their loans. Great to nail down contracts for Dack, Lenni etc. But still desperately short on the wings and for strikers.
  9. I'm sure it will be announced right after Junior Hoillet's new deal gets signed...
  10. So sounds like Travis has been the standout midfielder in pre-season, do we think Mowbray will start him in the first league game? I think his stubbornness will overcome and we'll see Evans and Smallwood...
  11. Very worrying that we're lining up with 3 at the back in pre season. Same happened last season and it meant we didn't get going until September once the system had been abandoned.
  12. I'd agree that Southgate has got the 3 at the back formation to work for England. I normally hate it, but I think it seemed to give us an extra man where it counted in defence and midfield. Apart from that losing goal v Croatia, we were really solid as a unit at the back. Walker wasn't 100% comfortable in his role, which is down to the individual not the formation. The problem with 3-5-2 is that it is quite defensive. England's shots on goal from open play in the whole tournament were something like 6 or 7 (the lowest). I think Mowbray will try again with the formation. I'd rather he didn't, because every time we've played it half the team look like the don't know what they are meant to be doing and we ended up with 5 strung across the back defending in League One. It will be different in the Championship where we will be up against stronger teams, but we can't afford to lose games whilst the players get used to the new formation.
  13. I'm glad we're seemingly prioritsing central midfield. It was the weakest areas of the team last year. Evans/Wittingham are miles away from the quality needed, and Smallwood tailed off after chrismas. In the modern game, it is the most important area IMO.
  14. Not many. But it seems worse than most at Rovers because they have to pull the pints one at a time as you wait. I saw that Tottenham's new ground is going to be able to serve 10,000 pints per minute!
  15. England defended well last night, and Henderson and Kane kept it solid down the middle. We're still carrying Ali, Sterling, Walker and Lingard (to a lesser extent) who aren't performing to their potential. Sterling was picked by Guardiola 30 odd times last year and played in the best team in the country, yet he has been abysmal. Hopefully they will turn it on in the next round because we can't rely on penalties and set pieces.
  16. Have a better system for serving drinks at half time on the concourses. I don't spend any money at half time, mainly because the game would have kicked off again before I got to the front of the coffee/beer queue. If I could quickly get a drink, i'd probably buy one every game.
  17. Good to see some of the players taking it upon themselves to get PT sessions over summer. The amount of money in the game, you'd think everyone would be doing this. However, from social media half the squad have clearly having a good time in Ibiza/Marbella/Vegas over summer too.
  18. I'm in the camp of "Yes we were quite poor for large parts of last season". The comparison being Wigan who destroyed most teams and looked like a Championship outfit, However, there are a few reasons for this. I think Mowbray's style of play is not to have the majority of the ball, so isn't going to be pretty when opposition teams just sit back and defend, which happened a lot. To our credit, we were generally very good at creating chances even when teams did sit back and try to frustrate us. I also think that we defended reasonably well all season - much more organised than we've been for a while. I think I said it earlier in the season, but we're not far off a decent team. I think a pacey winger and a decent central midfielder would transform the team. Best performance of the season was probably Wigan with Bennett in the middle. But I don't think this was replicated because Evans is far too pedestrian. So, without signings, I think we're struggling in the bottom half, but not certain relegation.
  19. Seems a solid signing with potential for the future judging by the reaction of Oxford fans. Not an automatic "1st eleven" signing I wouldn't think. So hopefully we're still working on a few others with more proven ability.
  20. Re-signing Conway and Graham doesn't change the need for 2 wingers, a striker and at least 1 central midfielder (hopefully 2). Hope Tony has a few lines up.
  21. I think we do ideally need 5 first team players if we want to compete in the top half. 1 x striker, 2 x wingers, 1 x CM, 1 x LB I like the guy, but Williams would be a disaster in the Championship (as he was for much of this season in League One). All this depends on budget obviously. It won't be cheap finding "first team" signings.
  22. Agreed that the squad is better than the Coyle squad (and a much better manager). But I think the Championship will be more difficult than when we got relegated. There's more established ex-Premiership clubs with money than there was at the time we went down. I wasn't overly convinced by the performances towards the end of last season. Playing like we did for the last 8/10 games would be relegation form in the Championship, we got away with it because L1 is poor. That said, if we add wisely (central mid/Striker/wingers/full back) I think we can use the team spirit and winning mentality to challenge in the top half. We've got to trust Tony to spend wisely, there's no alternative!
  23. I’m tempted. Would be the first since Venkys appointment of Kean. Not sure though whether I’d miss too many midweek games, and rather spend the money on away trips. £50 increase to £450 doesn’t help.
  24. Agree to a certain extent, but I don’t think we’re far off a half decent team. There’s a lot of capable players, who would be solid enough if bolstered by a few key signings. Add a quality central midfielder, goal scoring striker and a couple of decent wingers and we’d be competitive.
  25. Agree 100%. We also need to replace or keep Armstrong and Payne. Cover at right back would also be good.
