Well we certainly got charged a striker’s price for him.
-
Another week, another really tough game. Looking forward to it, hopefully Dack can get some magic back. Graham back in the team will make a big difference.

Tony to answer his critics with an attacking line-up: Smallwood Bennett-Lenihan-Mulgrew-Williams --------------------Reed------------------------- Brereton-Graham-Dack-Nuttall-Armstrong

WBA VS ROVERS - SAT 27TH
OJRovers replied to Dreams of 1995's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Everyone on here would have taken a draw before the game, so it is a good point. Yet again it shows we have the most committed team in the league. No-one will see us as an easy game at all. The only slight niggle is that we had zero strikers on the pitch at the start, yet £8m of new strikers sat on the bench. If Mowbray wants to play that system, fine, but why spend all of the budget on 2 central strikers in summer. I think we are going to regret it as these injuries pile up. Could Wharton be called back from his loan? -

Can anyone confirm if Travis is playing centre half? -
We pretty much built the current formation to fit Dack in that hole behind the striker. If we are going to persevere with brereton then Mowbray needs to come up with a formation that works for him, rather than shoehorning him into the current system.
-
I’d put him in the u23s, score some goals and get his fitness up.
-
Strange one to understand, because Rodwell for example has got match fit and he hasn’t played regularly for 2 years nor had a pre season, and isnt a fresh 19 years old.
-
Tony and his staff have done a fantastic job, you can really see the effect of their coaching on the way the players move and play the game. The coaches are visibly improving the players abilities week by week. There's a long list of them playing at their absolute best throughout the team; Graham, Bennett, Evans, Nyambe, Raya, Mulgrew. I also haven't seen a team use as much energy as this one, they are out on their feet after 90 mins. I don't think anyone fancies playing us at the minute. We set out to spoil the other team's gameplan, but still create decent chances ourselves.
-
Got to be said, he did look decent when he was running with the ball at pace. This isn’t the role that Graham’s position is required to do. Maybe that’s why he was put out wide. Still round pegs in square holes.
-
I guess it is the price you pay these days but how much is Armstrong worth now he's on a long contract if BB is worth £7m?
-
If we'd spent the £6m on Reed, by now we'd be excited that we'd signed a potential top player. Its just a shame that BB hasn't made a similar first impression.
-
Looked good when he had the ball at his feet running at the defence. Everything else is a work in progress. Doesn't look fit enough.

Rovers v Leeds, Ewood, 12.00 KO, 20th October

What a result! Brilliant performance from Mowbray's dogs of war. Every man played well today and gave 110% as we are used to these days. Evans/Smallwood/Reed ran themselves into the ground. Armstrong had a good game, but also credit to Bell who had his best game for us IMO. Leeds have a top midfield. Their no14 was excellent at getting into space and linking defence to attack. Ultimately, Leeds defence was suspect and I don't think that the strikers did a lot. One worry was that Brereton was blowing hard the whole time he was on. Nowhere near fit enough. I don't know why, especially if Rodwell can get fit from zero pre season. -
I think Rovers are expecting it to be tough, and will want to keep it tight, rather than play expansive football (I don't think Mowbray knows the meaning of the word...). But we'll be quietly confident to be able to create chances if Leeds start to push players forward, we're usually better against teams that do want to attack us. Leeds have won 2 of the last 7 league games, so hardly on Championship-winning form. Rovers will have a similar record over the last month so could be a close one. If Dack rediscovers some magic form, we could win it. I'd take a draw.
-
I disagree with playing 3 at the back. Every time we have attempted it, it ends up with effectively a back 5, and us having little to no threat going forward. You need brilliant central midfielders who can get up and down to play it well. All our CM players are defensive minded so can't play that role. Mowbray saying that Mulgrew should be fit for saturday.
-
Why is he not match fit (genuine question)? Has he been injured?
-
Good insight thanks. Unfortunately I can’t remember any games where Mowbray has played a proper number 9 position in his formations since he joined. What was the full formation when he did best at NF? 4-4-2 with wingers?
-
Jordi Gomez? Bit of a random one. Plus he's got 6 in that 5-a-side team!
-
I'm hoping he will come good in time. Its just a shame he hasn't made an immediate impact like Reed has or like when we first got Armstrong on loan last season, both young players too.
-
Sounds like he could do with some games for the U23s. Don’t see why he’s not playing for them if not getting minutes with the first XI. Rodwell used it to build up to match fitness.
-
Did I hear Lowe being boo-ed during the first half?
-
From what we saw he looked composed and something different to what we already have in CM. When fully fit I think him and Evans might make a decent pairing. Its kind of surprising that no other clubs were willing to take the chance with him, he’s got years left to play.
-
In reality it was a back 5. I don’t remember Reed ot Bennett over the halfway line much at all.
