Millwall had some useful 'proper' wingers, who were quick and ran to the by-line and got crosses in. You don't see a lot of that these days. I'd like to see someone like that come in this transfer window, because we haven't got anyone like that at the moment. Apart from that, i'm glad Mowbray has woken up to the idea of throwing academy players in. There's nothing to lose if they fail, however most times they actually out-perform expectations. Shame that Brereton has been in the way of Nuttall/Butterworth this season so far.

It was never going to be a classic game, millwall are a tough team who play a lot of anti football just trying to win corners and lump it up to their tall players. They do have some handy wingers though. We have played much better and lost, so take the 3 points and move on. -

What I thought was impressive is that Nuttall looks to have learnt a lot since we saw him last season. Within the first 20 mins he won 2 free kicks from getting his body in between ball and man 'Danny Graham style'. Intelligent play. Last season his feet were in concrete, whereas today he won a lot of headers against 2 of the biggest CBs in the league. At the back he marked his man well when defending set pieces. I think this was a big factor of him starting the game. End of the day, he has the knack of scoring goals. IMO fully justified being 1st reserve as central striker to DG. -

Problem now is that Nuttall is on the wing, out of position! -

I've been impressed with Nuttall in the air tonight, won a lot against some big center halves. No support with him though. -

Probably not the plan, but Nuttall is the one that deserves a chance based on performances (goals). Really hope the Nut does well. -
I actually think Downing is perfectly placed in the squad. He's a decent enough defender to have as a short-term replacement if one of the starting centre backs gets injured and thus far has been happy to be on the bench. Not sure how upgrading a reserve centre back would help progress the club. The better move would be to bring in would be someone to replace Lennihan or Mulgrew.

Woodburn looks like the sort of player we need, playing wide striker. Although it is only a matter of days since Mowbray said we would be relying on 19 year olds.

To be fair Palmer started 10 games and maybe the same amount of sub appearances. Not exactly been ignored.
-
I don't think there's much wrong with our starting formation, given the players we have. Our downfall this season has been in the last 15 mins of matches. Usually the time when we've made subs. Priority has to be to bring in some players that are either good enough to play in our current system i.e. a Graham replacement or a proper wide forward. OR bring in players good enough to play in a changed formation i.e. proper wingers. At the moment the subs aren't good enough for either.

In the Q&As Dack said that Rothwell was the quickest at the club over 20 yards, followed by Samual/Bell over 100 yards. No mention of Armstrong. I actually think he should use his pace more. Knock the ball forward and run past the defender after it.

He’ll be 3rd choice when Samual is back in a couple of months.

Smallwood was hanging on with some poor performances towards the end of last season (as were a few others). This would have been the perfect time to bring in Travis. It is such a shame that he has only got a game because Smallwood got himself sent off. Reminds me a lot of when Bowyer(?) persisted in playing Lowe and others ahead of Alan Judge, who was clearly a decent player. He went on to shine elsewhere.

Rovers v West Brom 1 Jan 2019

It's a real shame we have given away so many points in the closing stages of games. If you look at the top 6, despite us being the underdogs we've put up good performances against Leeds, Norwich, West Brom, Boro, Shef Utd (away). Apart from SU at home, if we hadn't shot ourselves in the foot we should have been undefeated in the other games. Birmingham are up in 8th who were one of the worst teams I've seen at Ewood. Again a game we should have won. It's a missed opportunity for me. Both in the points thrown away and also in the poor use of £9m transfer money last summer. -
Ridiculous that he's not had more chances when you consider how average the midfield has been. Even last season we had Raheem Harper who was cr@p getting games ahead of Travis.
