Mowbray very honest in the post match interview. Told the players that it wasn't a good enough performance when we were in possession. Not happy with the way we played, but will take the 3 points. The man is a legend. Joint 6th despite going through a bad patch is a great start to the season. As Dack said it should have been better, but we'll take it. Rodwell could be massive for this football club. Enjoy the 3 points - Saturday night!

Evans done good since he came on

We have after we changed formation
-
Standard of Williams distribution is appalling.
-
Smallwood error nearly ended up in an equaliser. No need to bring them on.
-
Get Armstrong on for Palmer!
-
5 at the back this half
-
Rodwell looking composed for someone who hasn't played a lot of football. Reed providing the energy. Need another.

Going off past meetings and our recent form, Bolton are going to get a penalty at some point.

I'd be interest to see how much of the training/coaching time is taken up with practicing 3 at the back. We went to that formation at half-time v Sheff Utd, so you'd hope they had practiced the system in training. Didn't appear that way in the manner we conceded the goals. If that is correct, then are we possibly confusing the players with 2 different systems, rather than focussing on being the best we can in 1 formation? Also it is taking up valuable training time on a system that is yet to work despite numerous attempts.

Mowbray still desperate to play 3 at the back. It hasn’t ever worked, and it won’t work.
-
Well it is the same team that limped over the line last season, with the only addition being Reed. Yet we spent £8m in the summer...
-
What formation are we playing since mulgrew came on?
-
I'd agree with this. Mowbray obviously doesn't want to play proper 'wingers' who get to the line and cross it in, we haven't got any in the squad. We do play 2 wide midfielders who play narrow. The players that have played there this season are numerous: Palmer, Conway, Bennett, Reed, Rothwell, Armstrong, Brereton, Samual. None of these are what you would call a specialist in that area. I think the closest we've had recently was Antonsson. The system works ok when we want to be defensive, but if Dack/Graham are neutralised or injured then we struggle to create chances (Derby game). It is a mystery to me why we haven't recruited specialist players for those 2 key positions in the team.

That is a disgrace

Transfer Window - Success or Failure
OJRovers replied to roversfan99's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Agreed we have more depth, but not in the right positions. Palmer, Rothwell, Brereton or Armstrong are not improvements in the areas we need. We’ve spent £8m on bench players to bring on in positions that are not their strongest. -

Now we’ve played 10ish games this season, we could be c20% through the season already. Intersting to look back at a transfer window where we spent the most amount of money for years and see whether we are actually any stronger for it. Looking at the likely team vs Forrest of; Raya Nyambe-Mulgrew-Lenni-Bell Reed-Evans-Smallwood-Bennett Dack graham If someone had said that would be our first choice team before the transfer window, you’d assume that venkys hadn’t given Mowbray any money to spend. I’m yet to be convinced that the £8m was spent in the right places to improve the first team, rather than just buying players who we might be able to sell on for profit in the future. -
AFC Bournemouth v ROVERS

Square pegs in round holes, and it is a long time until the January window. Result last night was to be expected though. £6m would’ve got a decent winger. -

Raya turning into a huge player for us this season. Yes he can sometimes kick a bit badly, but how many times has he bailed us out? Friedel-esque -
ROVERS VS STOKE CITY
OJRovers replied to Dreams of 1995's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
As soon as I saw the team I was happy with the game plan which was a high pressure press from all 4 of our midfielders and let Dack/Graham feed off the scraps upfront. Never seen so much commitment from midfield as this season. Long may it continue. It's looking like we have options there if we need to rest people. Anyone at the game got a view on how Brereton did? -

Derby vs Rovers post match thread
OJRovers replied to J*B's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Looking back on the game, we kept Derby's chances to goal-mouth scrambles. So big credit to the defence who were all under 25. If we can keep that unit together they will only get better. Nyambe at 20 years old is doing brilliantly. Midfield was a big disappointment until Bennett and Reed came on. Those 2 have to start at Stoke. Attacking-wise we struggle when Dack is quiet. Armstrong is off the boil at the moment, but I think he'll come round, we know he's got pace and can finish. I'm yet to see the logic of spending £7m on a player who can't play the hold-up striker role, since that is how we are setting out to play this season. -
...and Brereton isn't a target man or wide striker.
