Jemal Johnson has arrived back at Ewood after failing to hold down a first team spot at Preston. Jemals' 20 now and I reckon if he was going to make it at Prem level, he should be making the odd appearance in the first team by now. Strikers do tend to make the grade by his age. It's a position where natural ability comes through earlier than other positions. -
Interesting. I remember at the time of Finney and Douglas, that many rovers fans thought Duggie was the better player. What about some of the other old timers on here - was Duggie better than Best?
-
Yes, but let's keep the personal bits on the other forum. den [uLCI technical drawing 1963].

Back on topic please chaps. Ferguson, Rangers etc!
-
Very interesting.
-
I take that as a no then, - you don't see any similarity?
-
Strange you should say that, Theno. Now some people will laugh at this, but Baz said to me during the second half that Savage is very similar to Sherwood, in the style of play. Plays the ball simple and is very effective in what he does. I can see the similarity as well. Savage was the main reason why Arsenal never put rovers under any constant pressure and never dominated midfield.

We've also played Chelsea, Arsenal, Man Utd and Liverpool away. Good to get those out of the way.

4 clubs have conceded more goals Philip. - 16 teams have played less games. 1 Chelsea 13 11 1 1 31 7 24 34 2 Arsenal 13 8 2 3 22 10 12 26 3 Wigan Athletic 13 8 1 4 16 10 6 25 4 Manchester United 12 7 3 2 19 12 7 24 5 Tottenham Hotspur 14 6 6 2 16 10 6 24 6 Bolton Wanderers 12 7 2 3 14 11 3 23 7 Liverpool 12 6 4 2 13 8 5 22 8 Manchester City 14 6 3 5 15 12 3 21 9 West Ham United 12 5 4 3 16 11 5 19 10 Charlton Athletic 13 6 1 6 17 18 -1 19 11 Middlesbrough 13 5 3 5 18 18 0 18 12 Newcastle United 13 5 3 5 12 13 -1 18 13 Blackburn Rovers 14 5 3 6 15 18 -3 18 14 Aston Villa 14 4 3 7 14 22 -8 15 15 Fulham 13 3 3 7 14 19 -5 12 16 West Bromwich Albion 13 3 2 8 13 22 -9 11 17 Portsmouth 13 2 4 7 11 18 -7 10 18 Everton 12 3 1 8 4 16 -12 10 19 Birmingham City 13 2 3 8 8 17 -9 9 20 Sunderland 14 1 2 11 12 28 -16 5

It was better than huff and puff. It was quality passing football that Arsenal had, for most of the game, no answer to.
-
I find it difficult to be as hard as that. We all know the history, but whatever, he was a human being. There have been a lot worse people lived on this planet than George Best.
-
We were every bit as good as Arsenal on the day. Difference was finishing. Nothing else. I thought rovers were superb. Liability? Savage was superb today.
-
Yep, I agree with most of that. However, when Jack died, Roy Egerton-Vernon did indeed clarify the position of the trust as regards the short/medium term future of BRFC. Nothing has been heard since from them, so surely it wouldn't be too much of a problem for them to clarify the position today. I.E; Exactly what is their committment to rovers?
-
Vinjay, to be honest, the involvement of the Jersey trust in Blackburn rovers, is something that rovers fans should have a right to know about. BRISA has brought the subject up with the club. The only way to find out about the long term committment, or otherwise of the trust, is to ask them directly. The club have offered to help BRISA make some contact with the trustees, but in all truth the nature of a trust is to be "unseen" - if that's the right word. We [bRISA] will endeavour to get something from them in the future, but can't guarantee what response, if any, we get. EDIT: Short mention in the minutes with the club here

Looking at the clips that Flopsy linked to, I'm trying to think of someone in the prem at the moment, who would compare to Best. The nearest to him, for his dribbling ability and directness, would have to be Duff. So if you think of Duffer at his very best - then think of someone twice as good, you've got it.
-
Fabulous link Flopsy. Brought a tear.

Saw Best play for Man U v Rovers in 1964 at Old Trafford.United won 3-0 that day. I'm pretty sure that was Georges first game against rovers. He was 17/18 years old and playing outside left against the most stylish roght back I've ever seen - Keith Newton. It was obvious that Best was something special. You could see it even then. Marvellous memories.

[Archived] Blackburn Rovers Independent Supporters Asscn

Look at this in the Telegraph! "Blackburn Rovers independent supporters association are meeting with the club next month with attendances at Ewood top of the agenda. Why have home gates dropped so dramatically? And what can be done to boost attendances? Let us know what you think and we'll publish the best comments in the Lancashire Evening Telegraph." Cheeky swines. [Or maybe it's a bit of good advertising.]
