Transfer Window - COMPLETE. Where’s Gregg?

Please don’t trivialise other opinions that the current squad is simply not good enough. I didn’t say relegation was a foregone conclusion. -

Someone earlier posted their best team from our current squad. IMO, that team wouldn’t win many games in a season and would be in big danger of relegation. -

It’s not about other squads, it’s about ours. -

Right now, with our current squad I reckon we’re on course for last place in the league. I don’t remember thinking that before. Lots to do. -
How privileged are we to watch this? #englandindia

This has been an incredible collapse by Lancs. They have just lost 8 wickets for 43 runs after Salt and Buttler gave us a good start.

Even with the “euphoria” (steady on) of the JDT signing and everything else, why do I still live in dread of who we actually sign? The scars run deep. -
Jon Dahl Tomasson - no longer Sweden coach

Well yes, but I don’t think we’re going to be breaking the British transfer fee any time soon. -
Jon Dahl Tomasson - no longer Sweden coach

I started watching rovers in 61 or 62. I don’t ever remember selling our best players and improving. -

He didn’t build a squad because it’s not possible outside the PL. Any decent players will be off whenever they get a sniff of the PL. Thats what annoyed me when Mowbray used to say he had a five year plan. Some fans believe it’s the way to go as well but it’s impossible. A manager at Rovers has to go with whatever he has at any point in time. There’s just as much likelihood of next season’s squad being worse than this years, as there is of it being better. Rovers manager has to treat the squad at his disposal as the best squad he’s going to get. It’s too easy to have plans lasting years. Only one person benefits from that. -
Enjoy that @Gav? Pope is starting to show his class now, but Joe Root is just a fabulous cricketer isn’t he!
-
Have a good day Gav. Broad said this morning that whatever target England are set, they will go for it. Need to get those wickets first.

Rob Jones lost us that. All he needed to do was get off strike. The last three overs he took the strike off the last ball. What was he thinking? Left Tim David a spectator.

In Alicante at the moment and haven’t read the thread. First impressions of the appointments are “wow, what a change”! From an expected new but not very different man at the helm telling us the same job saving “facts of life” of how we can’t expect anything much better than what we have now, to a manager who openly tells us his aims are for the Premier League. How nice and uplifting is that? Not only that but he also wants a team that plays on the front foot, a pressing, possession based game. Brilliant. There’s more as well. He’s bringing an assistant manager and a “performance director”. That sounds to me like a team that has ambition. On paper at least that’s as much as I could have hoped for. Of course none of that means anything. They will all be judged solely on what the fans see on the pitch. He has a big task now, at this very moment to replace the players that have left - and at the end of all this he will only be as good as the players he brings in. He and his team have got a harder task than most managers in that his knowledge of the standard required in the Championsh and the qualities of any potential British players will be limited. -
My concern is that we will start a new season with a DOF and manager - neither of whom have any knowledge of the Championship or English football. Neither have worked in their current positions at this level. Taking into account that their first job within a couple of months will be to replace virtually half of the squad of a championship club, I wonder how they will cope with that. They will be relying heavily on the advice of agents I guess. One Thing I do believe. Rovers will need to hit the road running with some good results early on, otherwise I fear things won’t be easy. Good luck to them both. Let’s see how it goes.

Blackburn Rovers closing in on new head coach appointment The Rovers players return to pre-season testing today – with the appointment of a new head coach set to not be far behind. Rovers finished their interview process last week, with evaluations and the preferred candidate sent to the owners for their approval. That is understood to have now been rubber-stamped by Venky’s with an appointment set to be imminent. Jon Dahl Tomasson, out of work since leaving Malmo in January, emerged as the leading contender for the role last weekend. The 45-year-old guided Malmo to back-to-back Swedish league titles, but took the decision to leave in January after two years in charge. Reports in Tomasson’s homeland Denmark say the former Newcastle United striker has been offered a three-year deal by Rovers. Official contracts are understood to have been drawn up and in the process of being finalised, with an appointment then to be confirmed. https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/20204765.blackburn-rovers-closing-new-head-coach-appointment/

Playing positive cricket is absolutely the way to go. Being positive from the start of a game to the end is the approach of winners in any sport. It has to be controlled though. It hasn’t to be reckless. Stokes probably strayed into the reckless catageory today.
-
He was all over the place with that penultimate over. He had no control.

Philips for the long term? The idea is to sell them, not keep them. Personally I think the idea that you can keep a club in the championship by simply developing youngsters then selling them is not workable. I don’t think it can be done. Youth development is for the Academy. The clubs strategy should simply be be to win as many first team games however they can.

😀 Brilliant, love it.

I thought we’d lost it on the last ball. Camera went to wrong fielder who appeared to be looking into the stand.🥴
